Mikael recoiled slightly from the canine, wary of his fiery appendages. So the creature wanted to play, did he? Helplessly, Mikael lifted up his fingers. "I can't go running around. I might break a finger. You can color with me though.."
Lifting up a crayon, he presented it to Nova only to have the tip of it get too near to his fiery back and melt, dripping the colored wax onto the floor."Whoops..."
The door burst open and Mikael jumped just a little, swinging around to look at the energetic creature in the doorway. "Woah!" Obviously, Mikael was both surprised and impressed with what he had seen. He'd never seen an insect SD before, though he'd heard they existed. She had six legs.. and feathers coming out of her head! Truly an interesting creature. Did having more than four legs make it easier to walk? Mikael couldn't help but wonder. Maybe if he had an extra pair of legs he wouldn't have to walk on his front paws. That would certainly make life easier!

He tilted his head to the side, peering at the boy with the... insanely long fingers with a look of intrigue. Well, not being able to run around with fingers like those ... yeah, that made sense now that he thought about it. But that didn't mean that he couldn't play! His tail picked up it's pace as it waved behind him when the other canine mix suggested coloring, well ... that could be fun! He didn't quite have the focus for that to entertain him for to long but ... maybe for a little while? And thats when the crayon melted .... and he gave the other boy a rather sheepish grin.
Sorry ...
But his attention wouldn't be held by even this child for to long because not long after the crayon melted there was suddenly another presence in the room .... a familiar one at that! At the sight of the butterfly his tail went at it's full speed and he charged across the room with a happy little yip. And, once he was in range, his little paws left the floor and he was set to give a flying pounce to the insect.
Auntie Vana!
Kat was perfectly fine trying to hide between his sister and the sofa and his own tail thumped softly when she placed her head on his neck. He read this as a comforting gesture meant for her, not simply her trying to ignore the lot of other children on the floor. And then he heard Cas make an exclamation and his rounded ears shot forward again as he peered toward the door and spotted the butterfly as well, and his tail thumped a bit more. He'd address her if she noticed him ...

Saethre finished up the second batch of cookies, and brought them out into the living room with a flourish. "Here you go kids! Take as much as you want, dinner's not until.. I dunno!" The otter said cheerfully, but nearly tripped over herself when the butterfly came through the doorway. "Thanks!" She replied, then cheerfully tottered back into the kitchen, more than happy to leave the mess of children to Vana for a bit.
Zether rolled his eyes. "Well I call you stupid, then, for not knowing the difference." He spit out, and was miffed when she turned away. Didn't she have any spirit, leaving so quickly? His parents argued for ages before they stopped, and it was so much fun to watch.. well fine. He'd just go find something else to do, then.
Much to his surprise his monocle was presented to him, and he mumbled a quick "Thanks" of surprise before peering up at her. He then took a second look, mostly because he had no idea what she was. A Corvie.. legged-winged thing? Did Aunt Sae have a picture dictionary? He might be needing one..

Mikael watched the lot of them for a moment, rather curious about the goings on. It seemed the Lowlander bunch knew the odd butterfly woman. He had no such advantage. Watching curiously, he picked up his half melted crayon and began to sketch. Okay, so it was a purple crayon but hey... artistic freedom right?
Now that all the children seemed otherwise engaged, Mikael found himself alone. While not a particularly needy child, he did enjoy company and began to scope the room for someone to accompany him. Brokat and Vesper were hiding again, and he gave a long sigh. That Zether boy... he was easier to look at than converse with.... and Nova melted his crayons. Tapping a finger against his mask thoughtfully, he considered his options.
Finally, he got up, mincing carefully toward the couch to peer over the cushions where the two siblings were laying down. "What are you guys doing over here? Are you taking a nap?"

Vesper sneered, tempted to reply before settling on the decision that she would not dignify the snotty little canine with a response. One day though... She would get the boy back for being such an absolute snot to her.
For now she simply snuggled closer to her brother, growling to herself although she continued to nuzzle Brokat from time to time to verify that it wasn't at all him that was making her angry. Even once Auntie Vana entered the room, for that was surely the only butterfly Vesper had ever seen, Vesper didn't bother to move or uncoil herself.
She truly wished she could just sulk away and ignore everyone. At very least Auntie Vana understood the value of giving people their space and might possibly give Vesper that courtesy...
... And then Mikael had skulked up and stuck his nose in her business. So much for ignoring everyone.
"No." She said, trying to contain the sharpness of her tone. "I just don't want to be bothered by the King of Snot anymore."

Parvana, meanwhile, was lucky enough to just barely get the monocle back into Zether's possession before a flying bundle of excited puppy caught her attention. "You're welcome..." Her eyes widened suddenly and Parvana jumped back, arms wide.
It seemed like forever since she'd last seen Tavor and Toli's little bundles of joy, but the moment Nova came flying at her she couldn't help but recognize the hyperactive youth. "Casanova!" She gasped, managing to catch the little male and keep him from bowling into her. "How are you? You've grown so much! Are your siblings here?"
The butterfly giggled happily, carefully setting Nova back down before hunkering down to his level. "Hey, sweetie. Would you like to do your Auntie Vana a favor and introduce her to everyone?" Her wings fluttered absently, eyes drifting curiously around the group. It had been a while since she'd gotten the company of such children, this would be fun.

Brokat shifted his gaze from Auntie Vana to Mikael. He wasn't entirely sure if the boy was even really addressing him and he placed his head back down on his paws and continued to peer at him. His fluffy tail continued to thump slowly and softly in a friendly manner. No one really paid attention to him and, whether it was the middle child syndrome or not, his siblings, especially his brother, managed to usurp most of the attention. Cas was loud, friendly, had such pretty colors.... and those wings and then Vesper got attention with her attitude and it generally left the largest of the trio on the sidelines. But, he didn't really mind ... even if it did seem to worry momma something awful.
Nova was rather happy to see the butterfly again and his tail waved cheerfully the entire time he was near her. In fact it was waving so madly that it was a wonder he could even keep his balance.
I'm good ..... they didn't tell us you'd be here today!
Which was better then a room full of strangers after all .... even though he'd be quite content then as well. At the question about his siblings he had to peer over at the couch to make sure that neither of them had snuck off somewhere .... but no, they were both in the same place, which made it much easier and he looked back to the butterfly and nodded.
They're both over there.... on the couch.
He wasn't entirely sure what they were doing, but it obviously didn't have anything to do with him and he had Vana here so .... he hopped forward and made the move to give her a sloppy little puppy kiss across the face with his tongue.

Mikael's ears went from perked curiously forward to slanting back with only a touch of worry, his tail ceasing its easy beat. "Does what he say really matter that much? Sometimes you gotta just ignore the bad things. Well.. pappa and mamma would probably just sock him in the face... but I don't like getting into fights."
He looked over his shoulder, noticing that the lad was alone once more. It must be lonely... being so pompous. Oh goodness... that sounded sarcastic to himself even if he didn't mean it in that way! Turning back to the two siblings. The one called Brokat seemed miserable, generally avoiding eye contact and keeping to himself. Mikael decided he should leave him be. After all, he might not want to talk to someone with awkwardly long fingers and a weird mask. "Just ignore it when he says nasty things. Usually people are mean when they're sad inside. That's what my teacher says anyways. No, he wouldn't learn mushy shit like that from his parents. They'd sooner knock a person out for acting in the way that Zether was doing. Terms like 'spoiled brat' would come to mind in how they'd describe a kid like that.

Vana beamed cheerfully, ruffling the fur on the boy's head. "They didn't tell me you'd be here either, love!" The butterfly laughed happily, giving Casanova a gentle and loving squeeze when he once again attempted to leap upon her. The lick pulled a happy giggle from her and she kissed him lightly on the head.
"If they're not feeling up to saying hello just yet, then I can wait for them. In the meantime, how about we introduce ourselves to the other children for the time being, hm? I haven't gotten a chance to say hello to this group yet."
The butterfly's wings fluttered briefly, pleasure showing in her eyes. She loved children and loved taking care of them. Even the painfully troublesome ones had their endearing moments and, she had to admit, spontaneous mischief could be quite fun when it really came down to it.
