Zane paused for a moment as he did the math in his head. "Eighteen people which includes extended family." The sparrow was sure he did all the math correctly but he quickly double checked. Yep. Eighteen. Dear god his family was huge and he figured it would just get bigger with the way things were going. If Ez had any say in it he would have children of his own.
"Of course getting us all in one room is like trying to tame a hurricane. I mean, we all have something to do and somewhere to go." Ez said as he tipped a finger in his water. "Though I think I'd end up planning it since it's mostly my profession. I can't see Dad doing anything like this."
Eilwyn was happy that Elyse's tension was gone. He always worried about her. Well, how couldn't he? "Well if Dad does manage to get everyone together it would mean he could at least relax for a day... which would be a big step for him."

"Eighteen people? Wow that really is a large family." That . . . was a large family. "It does not surprise me that everyone does not get together in one big group all that often." Where in all the realms would you find somewhere big enough to hold that many people?
And to think if her and Wyn, or anyone else for that matter, had kids then the number would just continue to grow.
Hearing Ez's comment she turned a still slightly shocked expression toward him. "Well if you can pull something this splendid off then . . . you simply would have to be the best in your field. Eighteen people, honestly?" Such a large number.
At Wyn's comment she nodded. Her own father was the same way. He used the trips he took about once a month to come visit her and her mother as time to relax. He never seemed as stressed out as Wyn's father but being The Queen surely had to be some high level of stress.

"Yeah, Dad always wanted a large family and he got one... of course he never expected all of us to be... as special as we all are," Zane rolled his eyes and looked to Ez who decided to flick him in side of the head.
"Eighteen people would be an easy event to plan for. To some degree, and we would just use the Court of Diamonds since that would be the easiest for a small chunk of the family." Ez said with a wave of his hand. Wait.... did Elyse even know what Dad did at the palace? Did she even know his name?
Eilwyn shifted as he picked up his glass of water. He hadn't been to the Court of Diamonds in a long time. Maybe he should go and surprise Dad with a visit sometime?
"Elyse, do you know what our Dad does--more importantly do you know his name?" Ezekiel asked.

"At eighteen people I would definitely say that your dad got his wish." She gave a small giggle. "It suppose that the Court would be big enough for a party" She said after a pause. Mother Mnem was a titled King there at the moment, it had been a while since she had seen her. She wondered how she was doing. She should probably check up on her sometime with a random hello.
"Your dad? Well he is involved with the Diamond Court and his name is Theofilus . . . " she replied slowly a little confused by the question. Now that Ez mentioned it she was not sure she knew exactly what it was that their dad did. What did their dad do?
"Wot does your dad do exactly?" She asked, her brow furrowed in confusion. He was too regal to be someone lowly at the Court . . .

...
All of the boys stared for a moment at the mouse hybrid. They really hadn't told her anything about Dad? Obviously she didn't keep up with court politics... most people didn't but in general people knew the name of the higher up court members. Then again she did have family in courts too.
Ez provided her with the answer as Zane and Eilwyn remained quiet. "He's the Queen of Diamonds. Got in a fight to get the title which is why he has one eye." He was pretty sure that she would have noticed the glass eye, or the eye patch if Dad wore it around her. "The fight wasn't as terrifying as your Dad's--no acid or flames--but apparently quite a few people came to watch. I didn't know about it until Kelasia and Mom told me."
He shrugged as he spun his finger in his drink. "So that's probably why he wants to meet your Dad too. He hasn't met the Queen of Clubs or Spades personally. But mostly because... Eilwyn's the baby."
Eilwyn gave his brother a confused look. "What?"
"Nothing." Zane replied as he pushed his sparrow brother in the shoulder.

The Queen of Diamonds? Oh dear.
Elyse felt her mouth fall open a little in shock. "Wow" was the only thing she could manage to say. That . . . wow.
Of course now it all made made perfect sense. He was not around all that often, constantly stressed, his regal manner, . . . She was also sure that she had heard his name around in the Capital before, having an interest in healing she had noticed his glass eye and patch . . . everything, all of it, made perfect sense. It had been foolish of her not to notice before.
She felt herself blush royally at that thought.
And her father was The Queen of Clubs. Oh that was deliciously ironic.
At Ez's comment about Wyn being the baby she gave Wyn a smile. It really was true. He was one of the youngest - and if that did not constitute then his personality sure did. Their dad was protective of Wyn like hers was of her.

"Sorry we didn't tell you sooner. We probably all thought we told you at some point," Ez offered as compensation for the shock. Most people were surprised that he was related to the Queen of Diamonds. Then again there weren't that many sparrow of his region running around that looked so close to him.
"But... Dad's really nice as you can tell." Eilwyn said trying to lighten the mood of shock a bit. He was still confused by what Ez said but he would leave it alone for now. "He may be the Queen of Diamonds but he doesn't act like it when he's with family."
"Most people would say Dad's a softie for a Queen. With his whole Ace values and such." Zane said as he watched one of the waitresses walking over with their plates. "But he always puts family first. So Elyse, you won't have to worry about him disliking you."

"Do not worry about it." She replied with a smile, her deep shock feeling from before gone. She was still amazed at the fact but it was not really something to just come up in conversation. After all it did not often come to mind to just mention that her own father was a Queen, so there really had been no reason for them to bring it up either.
"Well just because he is The Queen does not change him as a person." She hoped that that made sense. She did not view the man any different now then before, rather she understood him better now. It would be interesting to meet him for real and see what similarities and differences he had from her own dad.
She paused as they were delivered their meal. She would do the feminine thing and allow Wyn to sort theirs out. It smelled wonderfully delicious. She could not wait to dig in.

"You never know, some people get corrupted by power," Ez said as he gracefully accepted his meal from the waitress with a wink and a cordial smile. How could he not flirt with such a pretty thing?
Eilwyn separated out the portions between him and Elyse on their separate plates, giving her a little more. Once everything was set up they were ready to eat. Mmm. Fish. It always made the day better. The eagle had been blissfully unaware of power corrupts conversation.
Zane took to eating his meal and remaining quiet on the subject that power corrupts. He was sure his brother was right but... Dad would never do anything awful. He was dad after all and he was crusading against all the terrible things. He was having to struggle but... Dad did want to change all of society. He had a reason to struggle.
Ez meanwhile wasn't focusing on what he had just said, he was very content on eating and flirting with the waitress from afar.
