It didn't take long for Christopher to get the letter, it was a small victory. Mia was actually admitting to defeat on some degree. He couldn't help but chuckle about it. Of course he wasn't going to go running the the court of Spades because the ferret sent him a one line letter. That would be admitting defeat on his part.
He sent a letter back which contained one line of text and a signature.
We'll see what happens.
Christopher was content on letting Dysthymia suffer for a few weeks before he was going to make his way to the Court of Spades. After all he had to get everything an order and find a place to stay in the capital. He wasn't about to drop everything he did when he was conducting important studies and still giving lectures. Plus he had to figure out which books he wanted to bring along with him.
It was going to be a while.

Dysthymia nearly didn't open the letter, but seriously contemplated burning it. He spent nearly an hour of his precious freetime simply staring at the letter, imagining the edges curling into ash and falling to the ground..
Obviously his Torquehelm was beginning to get the better of him if he was getting this imaginative about burning a letter. Finally he just opened it and twitched at the response. It was just like Christopher to write even less than he had, and to be as absolutely vague as possible.
Fine. The kid could stay with Vessatha for a few weeks - hopefully the brain damage that occured wouldn't be too permanent. If nothing else, it would give Christopher something to be horrified about whenever he decided it was convenient to show up. It would give Mia something to laugh about when all he wanted to do was scream.. hopefully.
So he left Zether with his mother and threw himself into his work, purposefully not taking much notice of time and only eating when someone nearly threw it in his face. He wasn't a big eater in the first place, so it wasn't that much of a change - and he figured if nothing else, it wouldn't kill his waistline to lose a few pounds. Coffee was a good replacement for vegetables, right?

Christopher showed up after three weeks of preparing himself for the little trip. The Esterberry had everything in perfect order when he finally showed up at the Court of Spades. Of course, he had no idea where the ferret was so he had to ask around. There weren't that many staff members about so it was one long struggle after another.
Mia was going to hear about it. He would make sure of it. And he had every intention of rubbing his victory in the Jack's face. A smirk spread on his muzzle as he knocked on the door waiting for him to answer.
Of course this didn't mean he was going to be a responsible and nice adult. He really didn't want to be stuck with a child--it was the last thing on his mind, but he could at least come for a visit or two. Mia was actually... sort of interesting to be around.

Mia had essentially forgotten he'd ever requested anything - that's what happened when you became perpetually half-asleep, you tended to forget things a lot. He'd come to the conclusion that he'd developed some nasty self-destructive tendancies (and blamed it on Quinn for being half-Torquehelm and giving it to him) but along the same line, really didn't care. The ferret did his best not to overanalyze exactly where these tendancies had come from, but tried to remember to eat things that were not caffeine-laced as often as possible.
The day that Christopher chose to show up was one of his catch-up days - aka one in which he slept the entirety up to make up for not having done so for some ungodly length of time. It took nearly five minutes before the knocking broke into his conciousness, and it was a few minutes more before he answered, mostly because he was so annoyed at being woken up. "What? Do you have to bother me while I'm sleeping? Do none of you people know the wonders of writing a note?" He ranted, mostly to himself, since none of the people that were dumb enough to show up at his door would bother listening, let alone heed what he was saying.
Finally the ferret stumbled off of his bed and managed to get the door open, but it was a minute before recognition hit and a disgusted look formed on his face. "Decided to show up, did you? For Suit's sake, you couldn't have picked a day when I was awake?" He griped, not awake enough to really ponder that there might be consequences of doing such. Instead of waiting for a reply he left the door open and slogged back into the completely pitch-black room in order to literally fall back onto his bed and curl up around a pillow, nearly half-asleep already.

The Esterberry stared blankly at the disgruntled ferret. Apparently he was slightly incoherent and sleep deprived if he was ranting about coming on a day when he was awake. "Alas, the world doesn't revolve around you," Christopher said as he walked into the room and didn't hesitate to find a light.
He was going to be as spiteful as possible. "I'm not here to deal with your antics, you wanted met to come and visit Zether, so I have." He cleared his throat and made sure to open all of the curtains as he made his way around the room. Oh yes, he was all for aggravating Dysthymia at this point. He had left him to find the room, not to mention he had to travel all the way to the court of Spades. This was a small price to pay, and if the ferret wanted to snark he would snark back.
Assuming the man could stay awake long enough to provide him with an answer. What the hell had he been doing this entire time?

"If only if only," Mia muttered, and immediately stuffed his head under the pillow when a bright light suddenly came in contact with his eyes. That was just evil, turning lights on when he was obviously still very asleep.
He kept his head under the pillow, mostly to aggravate him. "Well go visit him then. He's not here, if you haven't noticed." The ferret waved a paw around the room to elaborate, and it was easy to see that the area was suspiciously toddler-free, though the next room over wasn't. But he didn't need to know that. Either way, Zether wasn't with him.
Still, Mia had a sinking feeling that Christopher wasn't going to simply leave him alone, bastard that he was. He sighed heavily and forced himself to throw the pillow away from his face, and nearly whimpered when he realised just how bright the room had become. Suits it was so tempting to simply curl up under the covers and ignore him..

Christopher gave a frustrated sigh. This was going nowhere fast. "Fortunately I'm not psychic therefor I would need to know his bloody location before I went anywhere."
The Esterberry rolled his eyes as he walked over the bed. If the ferret was planning to dig under the covers he would tear them away and force him to deal with the sunlight. He should have taken better care of himself anyway. Sleep deprivation was never productive no matter your profession because ultimately you ended up screwing yourself over. This was a perfect example of that.
"Once you tell me I'll be out of your hair for a while." He muttered. For a while being the keyword. He had every intention of bothering the poor man before he left. Of course, he might have to stay the night since it was a rather long ride back to the Capital City.

Mia grinned sleepily, then began absently twisting his wires through his paw whlie he gave Christopher a fake apologetic look. "You managed to find me, didn't you? Oh, I'm sorry, do forgive me, I was under the impression that you knew everything.. so good to know I was wrong." He stopped to give the canine a bright, winning smile. "He's in the kitchens."
Much to the ferret's surprise, he seemed to be truly annoying the saluki - what a concept, karma! - and it brought him far more sadistic joy than it probably should have, but again, it was Christopher's own damned fault they were here anyways. If he just hadn't gotten him pregnant, Mia would be getting sleep and Christopher could be snarking at some poor Esterberry that was under the impression that they could do math.
"For a while! Oh, may wonders never cease, you're giving me that long? How will I ever thank you?" Mia sarcastically inquired - his manners, what precious few existed, had decided not to wake up with him. Not that he cared. Finally he rolled off the bed and went and sat at his desk, then began rummaging through his papers while he absently twiddled with his wires once more.
If he was going to be awake - and he was damned well going to be awake for bloody hours now - then he was getting work done, even if the stupid dog decided not to leave.
Which he probably would out of spite.

The Esterberry's eyes narrowed at the ferret. He was obviously asking for a verbal beating wasn't he? Where did he get off being so high and mighty and worst of all... insulting an Esterberry's smarts. Even if you were smarter than an Esterberry you never said it too their face. It was just a suicidal sort of thing to do even if they were being sarcastic and snarky.
The canine growled as he watched Mia walk over to his desk. Brushing him off in such a manner was inexcusable. Walking up behind him and setting his hands on the back of the chair the saluki began to speak.
"You've obviously lost your marbles, or something far worse. And frankly you can take your piddling insults and stuff them down your throat." He paused, his eye twitching slightly, "I came all the way here out of the kindness of my heart and you decide to be a snot nosed brat to me when I just want to see our son. Maybe I should just walk out and never come back."
He snorted. "But I have every intention of making you suffer. You'll just never know when it's coming."
With that said he walked out of the room to find where the kitchens were. Mia was probably too sleep deprived to remember what had just happened. Either way Christopher would.
