Silence. Stunned silence at that.
Well his mission was complete. The canine chuckled as he watched the ferret pickup the first book. The look on his face was just absolutely priceless. This was the best victory he had ever had.
Being nice really threw people off when you were a snotty bastard. He would have to do this at random a tiny bit more often. Maybe he would arrange for a candle light dinner next?
"I think I'm going to take my leave while you enjoy yourself," Christopher said as he gave the ferret a gracious bow. He was going to go and visit the library. He was fairly certain there had to be one book that he hadn't read, and he could keep himself distracted for a little while before getting bored. He wanted to savor this huge victory as much as possible.
It was a good day, and maybe it would be a better day later tonight.

Mia was still thoroughly flabbergasted when Chris left, and was unable to do anything but nod vaguely in response. He went over each and every book with a sense of wonderment, and a good idea that he wasn't going to be bored for a very, very long time. Some nice children's stories that Zether would appreciate, some Esterberry books.. a book on etiquette. Thanks, dog. His manners were delightful. He chuckled all the same, and decided he'd read that particular book to their child while Chris was within hearing range. Very. Loudly.
Around a half an hour later he'd gone through every book, and was still stunned with the honest sincerity that Christopher had displayed. It was a side of the canine he saw so rarely it was difficult to remember it existed; still, he should show his appreciation.. just in case it was years before he saw it again.
Going on a hunch, Mia snuck into the library, and wasn't surprised to find Chris perched on a chair with a massive text. He snuck around Chris's line of vision, came up behind the chair, and snaked his arms down the canine's shoulders and enfolded him in a tight hug. "Thank you."
{{AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! TWO YEARS LATER.}}

For reaching 101 posts, you each receive one of the (belated) February prizes!
Charmed Ring: This tiny ring doesn't look as though it would fit on anyone but a rodent. Brass, slightly bent, and a little green with mislaid care, it doesn't even shine. When held, it tingles slightly and the owner will watch as it slowly dissolves. The SD will now, once a week, be able to cause any brass surface to act as a sounding mirror, allowing them to communicate with one person anywhere they desire for a full five minutes. Their communication will be in the other person's mind, while the caster will be able to see a little bit of the person's face in the brass surface.
