Eurwen did not expect to hit a door. She jumped wide eyed at the sound. Really she hadn't meant to hit it that hard, and she had honestly expected something that would potentially maul them. "Sorry, I was hoping it was something soft like a person," she commented in whisper as she backed away. The smell assaulted her and she cringed. What in the name of...? Sulfur, that was definitely sulfur and something else.
When she heard footsteps she briefly face palmed before Ayden grabbed her arm. Great, she had managed to screw up in the worst of ways. She choked down her embarrassment and followed Ayden's instructions. She already had her weapon drawn as they were in the corridor. Holding her breath she waited for the worst to happen.
There were Guards. Her brow furrowed as she listened to them speak. The didn't seem particularly bright about the whole thing. She held her breath when she heard the growl, it sounded like something was sniffing.
They didn't seem to notice them. However, there seemed to be something going on. After the banging on the door concluded, there was a sound of something answering the Guard.
Her fur prickled. Were there people down there? Were they being experimented on? She really hoped that was the Corvie in her talking.
Silently she cursed and waited for the men to go, her weapon still drawn. There was more sniffing after the voices and steps had receded. It was probably a pet or a guard dog. Suits, she really hoped that Kamina would throw off the scent.
It seemed like it took forever for the sound to go away. When it did Eurwen turned to Ayden whispering, "Ayden... I am going to see if they left the key behind. There's something very wrong happening through that door and I think my Selkie Grandfather would rise from the grave and kill me if I did nothing. When I get back I want you to explain exactly what you know about your employer. And yes, I know I'm an idiot, forgive me."
With that the mouse slipped her boomerang in her mouth and scurried out of their hiding place (18 for stealth). She quickly went to the door, seeing if there was still a way in.
---
Kamina's fur stood up at the loud sound. She nearly backed into Jovan out of surprise. She really had no idea what was going on, and was simply lead to where she needed to go. Things smelled rather strange... was that more ink? She peered at the door for one long moment.
And then she was going somewhere and staying quiet behind Jovan. She was fine by that. She looked down the hallway, away from everyone else. What was with this place? Shouldn't there be people? They shouldn't be hiding if the Pretty Mouse Boy was hired by the person who owned the house. Didn't this strike any of them as wrong? Oh wait, they were too busy hiding.
She heard quite a bit of strange things, but continued to stare down the hallway with a confused expression on her face. Suddenly Eurwen was talking again. Did that mean they were safe? She looked towards the adults, hoping for an answer. "I can help, you know, I do have magic," she said quietly.

He cried out pathetically in terror as the thing swallowed him. He fought desperately, clawing at what he could for the sake of his life. I will not die here. Not like this! God, no... Tears began to sting his securely shut eyes as it seeped into his rot. Fear made his body shake as he weakly fought, barely able to move his limbs through the viscous liquid. Out of instinct, he tried to scream, only to choke on the very substance containing him. His body lurched, trying to eject the substance from him. It made him feel ill. The inky substance began to burn a little at the edges of his eye lids, trying to get into his eyes.
Then the voice torn through his mind, making him freeze. The thing was... terrified. Was it so malicious because it was lashing out in fear? He couldn’t speak, but he tried to reach back to it with his own mind. He hoped it could hear him.
Who are you? Please, stop. I’m sorry I attacked you, you just frightened me... What’s wrong? I want to help you. Please...
Then the liquid around him surged, pulling him in one direction. He soon found himself on solid ground. Unable to open his eyes due to the ink that had soaked over his entire body he blindly scrambled to get to his feet. Once he accomplished this, he vomited. A chunky blend of slightly pink vomit swirled with black ink splashed on the wet soil. He put a paw to his face and activated his Spade ability to create water and cleared his face. Now able to open his eyes, he looked around for the first monster. His brow furrowed, only finding an inky trail and... someone’s body parts. Resisting the urge to vomit again, he left the items there and rushed to the aid of the children. He scrambled up the porch stairs, slipping from the ink that dripped down his body.
“D-don’t attack it! I think... I think it’s...” Friendly? That hardly seemed the right word for it. Body quivering from an adrenaline overload, he turns his head to it.
“H-h-hello?”
[I would like the jaw, but am more than willing to pay for the other pieces. ;D
Also, my apologies if this is too much. >>]

Damn it all!! Simun let out a plaintive wail of horror as the girl's brother tried to get the Lowlander's attentions, effectively separating them into two groups. He was again left with the Skunk, but this time, he didn't want to be mature and protective! He wanted to go inside, be with his own sister and away from the disgusting Lowlander, and then go home! Was that just too much to ask?!
Apparently so. He choked with fear when another horrible monster appeared next to them, frothing and spitting. His eyes went as round as dinner-plates as he stared at it, taking a slow step backwards. "D-d-don't..." he whimpered, then cried out loudly, voice a plaintive wail (3 for keeping it together). "VICTOR!!! HELP!" With his own problems in his sight, he was oblivious to the fact that the man was dealing with a monster of his own.
Helpless and pathetic. He was at a loss. Maybe if he'd been more like his siblings - either of them! - none of this would have happened. He would have been able to fight the monster back, been able to do anything... He was dimly aware that the other boy had managed to make it both onto the steps, but beyond that, everything was a blur.
There was terror pulsing through Shoshanna's veins. White-hot, rendering her immobile for a moment, she gaped at the creature before them. They had escaped Him. She had been captured by more Corvie Devils, but the police had rescued her, and now they had been talking about finding her a proper home, with loving "parents". It had seemed too good to be true. Now she knew it was - the universe wasn't anywhere near done crapping on her or Geronimo. It would probably never be. She wanted to cry.
But a surge of something went through her when her brother assumed a protective pose in front of her. At first, she had no idea what it was - it was something she could only remember having felt once before, when Miah had ignored the command to protect her. She growled, staring at her brother's backside. "Get out of the way, Ger," she said softly, then lowered her head.
Completely oblivious to the Lowlander who was running forward, telling them not to attack, Shoshanna let out a feral shout and charged forward, hoping to slam into the beast with her long horn. With a little boost of Club strength, she would let the world know: Shoshanna was not helpless. (13)
~~~
Moderate Magical Ability When activated, she can carry up to 125 lbs of extra weight for 24 hours straight, one day per week. She is left feeling tired and somewhat drained for the 24 hours following that period.
Jovan had been so fully distracted by the strange swish and his attempt at puzzling out what it might have been that he hadn't noticed the thing beneath the tapestry or Eurwen attempt to swipe at it. The horrible clang that rang through the hallway definitely clued him in, however, and he nearly jumped out of his own skin with surprise.
He jerked toward Eurwen as he let out a half-growl of nervous surprise. And then the smell of sulfur and ...guh ink! hit him and his stomach churned with returned memories of being inside that thing. He wasn't sure he was ready to deal with another one, but thankfully he didn't really have time to contemplate what he was or was not ready to deal with as Ayden quickly ducked them all down a side corridor. He nodded obediently, nudging Kamina close to him.
The silence between them seemed to last an eternity, just holding their breaths and waiting for the guards to pass. He was tense with nerves and, to his mild horror, the blobling seemed to be aware of it. The little ink thing nuzzled his ear and wriggled around in what Jovan could only assume was an act of attempted comfort. Maybe in time he'd come to accept it a little more... For now it did little to help, especially as he heard them release something.
He held his breath with an almost desperate desire to remain invisible and, amazingly, it worked.
The thing vanished, the guards left... the world was silent... and then Eurwen spoke. He blinked and finally allowed himself to release his breath. Safe? How on earth were they safe?! Nevermind, it was better not to question it. He had more important things to question, like what sort of horrors Eurwen might reveal if she managed to get into that room.
He couldn't tell her no, of course, his own honor would've driven him to do the very same but, honestly, he wasn't happy to let her do it. "Please be careful, Eurwen... What if it's more of those monsters?" Oh god, what if they were Selkies!? The thought that that thing could've been a person a long time ago made his stomach knot up all over again. His mother had told him terrible things about Corvies and he knew, as much as he loathed to believe it, that this was not something beyond their scope.
Kamina's comment behind him was met with a faint smile. She really was a true Heart -- Xiven would've been proud, he thought. "I know, but it's my duty to ensure you don't have to unless necessary. As The Queen's daughter, I should be keeping you as far from danger as possible." And he was failing at that, wasn't he? Though, ultimately, she was safe.
((Ayden shook his head, mumbling. "It's fine. We just have to hope that no one's going to duck back here... I don't know what the growling was, and I would prefer not to find out. In my experience, it isn't normally something you'd want to take home with you." After the sounds of whatever it was faded, Ayden flicked an ear in Eurwen's direction at her whisper. He rolled his eyes a little at her snarky reply and nodded, but let his fingers run over her tail lightly as she slipped away, squeezing the end of it before she vanished. Leaning back until he was within better earshot of Jovan, he murmured to him. "You know, for all of her crass attitude, I do believe I like her." He snickered lightly, before gesturing to where she had vanished. "Kamina...what magic do you have available? Anything that might make a distraction somewhere else?" He asked, hopefully. His own spells of that sort were spent for the day or week...a terrible shame, but he'd never thought he would have to use them in the house of a friend.
The exposed door still ha the key in it...though it's a little dented, and the foul smell is still creeping out of the grate. As are some fairly awful sounds...whines and cries...terrible ones. The door can be opened, inside is a long tunnel that goes out and then down...into darkness. Careful, who knows if there's a way back up?
Outside, Sho succeeded in slamming into the beast. Literally. Her entire body was engulfed in a thick slimy blackness that swallowed her whole, thick and viscus, impossible to fight against. A few seconds later, it seemed to spit her out onto the ground...bits of thick goo rolling off with her three or four of them shooting inquisitively around the area. "Sssshhheee huuuurt meee..." The thing whimpered, voice thick, empty, and hollow; it stared up at Victor, yellow eyes huge, sunken, and rolling about on the oily surface. It lurched pathetically, as though cringing in fear from the little Skunk it just chucked up. "Broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken, broken......................." It screeched, repeating its mantra as it shuddered in horror, staring up at the sky.))
The impact wasn't at all what Shoshanna had expected. She had been bracing herself for the impact against her neck and shoulders, but not -- not being absorbed into the body of the creature, sucked up into its thick and choking interior. She struggled weakly against it, unable to do anything to free herself, of course, paws simply sliding deep into the muck. She'd had dreams that felt like this, before, caught in something thick and unyielding, unable to break free...
But never quite like this. This time, she felt like she was going to drown in it, realizing belatedly that this was a bad idea. What was that courage and anger that had gripped her?! Where on earth had it come from?!
She felt herself heave forward and come sliding out of the mass with a wet schllooop, coughing as she hit the ground but... Not injured. Not in the slightest. She stared up at the creature, now recoiling in horror away from her and wailing in pain. Then she wailed. "I didn't -- I didn't --!!!" she sobbed, the full impact of the day crashing down on her, and dove off the side of the porch (unknowingly right behind one of the blobs), hid behind a bush, and started to sob.
She was covered in ink, her head hurt, and... she had attacked, but it seemed like it was a bad thing to do, now.
A warning to the girl had sprung, half-formed, from Simun's mouth, but it had come too late. He watched with horror as the creature seemed to consume the skunk completely, his eyes going wide. Then, only seconds later, she came spilling back out and then raced off! The boy was shaking all over, tail lashing nervously from side to side, hackles raised. "W-what do you want us to do about it?!"
Victor gave a horrified yell as Shoshanna charged the Ink Monster. He just about had a hernia when she got sucked into the thing’s body. A vague thought crossed the back of his mind as he watched her get returned to the outside of the thing’s body: I must be the worst chaperone ever.
He just stared, frozen temporarily to the spot*. He was jolted out of it when it spoke. His body was still shaking from adrenaline, and now unease at the sound of the thing’s voice.
But he remembered the terror the other one felt. He remembered the words that were spoken into his mind. His brain was in overdrive. He could only target one thing with his magic alignment-detecting spell. And here was the third monster with the exact same smell and appearance, the second one whose words contained the same theme. Were they...? At this point, anything seemed possible.
“Shoshanna!” he called to her, to no avail. Shit, shit! There was a mystery to solve. It had to be for the sake of everyone involved... but he could NOT lose another kid. "Ger... please. Get her back. We have to stay together." Then he turned to the beast. His body shook harder with what he intended to do. The discomfort in being covered in ink largely forgotten due to his fear.
“H-hey there... shhhh... Please, calm down,” he gingerly approached the beast. He really did not want to be swallowed again. “Hey... What’s broken?” he extended a shaking paw to the creature, “Maybe we can help you fix it.” Despite every logical thought in his head telling him otherwise, he gently touched the creature’s shoulder.
[ With what I rolled, someone else would have definitely got to her first. Lulz
Grarg. If I start assuming too much of other character’s actions/inactions, PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know.
Also, Xenon: Shoshanna charging the thing made me grin. Ahahahaha!
EDIT! - Xenon posted while I was still working on my own and I did not see it until now. Tweaked to fit better.]
"I'll be good," Eurwen murmured in response to Jovan before departing. She was happy that Ayden was actually putting up with her. Hell, she was happy that everyone was putting up with her at this point. She had screwed up in a rather retarded way and she deserved a smack in the face for it.
The nice touch good-bye was better though.
The mouse made it to the door without incident. The key was still there, and the door opened without much trouble. Her nose scrunched up at the horrible smell. There was sounds down there though. It sounded like something was being tortured. The tunnel led into darkness. She slipped her boomerang back on her belt.
That wasn't encouraging. And she didn't really want to be loud. She didn't have many options. She snapped one of the useless tools, a tape measure, off of her belt and called down the tunnel, "Is anyone down there?" before winging the object as far as she possibly could.
Hopefully whatever was down there, wouldn't throw it back. Suits, she was being extra stupid today wasn't she? She waited for a moment, hoping. Maybe she should just go back to the group and they should go deeper into the mansion. But really, nothing was safe at this point.
---
Kamina gave Jovan a small smile before licking him on the cheek. He was so nice saying things like that. He couldn't keep her away from danger at a time like this. They were in the middle of danger.
She tilted her head at Ayden's question. Right. Magic. She had been talking about that.
"I have a dangerous ability my mother told me not to use. I can release the gas inside of my body and target one person. They'll be obsessed over me... I can get them to do quite a bit when they're like that. I did it to the kitchen staff once.. though they become addicted to smoking me and very bad things happen if they don't smoke me." She frowned. "There's another thing I can do, but it's more depressing that that. People can see how drab the world is... Oh, and I can hurt Clubs really bad."
She nodded to herself. That was it. It could serve as a distraction she supposed.
Another thought popped into her head. "By the way, why are there guards if the door was unlocked? Is this a trap?"
Jovan wasn't comfortable with this situation. Though he'd let Eurwen go, a piece of him was straining to hear what little he could of her movements and he had to resist leaning around the corner to watch her. Ayden's comment removed him briefly from his worry and he found himself grinning a little instead.
"Aye... For all the trouble she gets into, she's a lot of fun. She certainly likes you as well."
And then Kamina spoke up and... licked him on the cheek. A bright red flush appeared against his pale white fur and he dipped his head a little. He hadn't expected that and he wasn't entirely sure how to respond aside from his thankful grin.
Ayden filled the silence. He was fairly good at picking up the slack when Jovan fumbled a bit and the young King was terribly grateful. As Kamina began to explain her abilities (quite useful, really), Jovan's ears had pricked toward the sound of Eurwen speaking. She'd apparently managed to get the door open and didn't seem to be horrified by the results. His tail twitched slightly and the blobling, as if aware of his discomfort, snuggled closer to his neck.
Kamina's question made his ears flatten back. "I'm wondering the same thing... Doesn't seem right, to leave the key in the door like that... They must've trusted whatever they let out to do their dirty work or... well, something really bad is happening here." His gaze shifted to Ayden and he tilted his head to the side a little. "I assume from the way we're hiding, it's not usually like this here... Do you have any idea what could be happening?"
He glanced to the hall again, anxiety prickling the back of his mind. What was taking Eurwen? She must have found something...
((Ayden nodded. "Glad to hear you judge it so." He muttered ruefully, rubbing a hand through his hair. "No, it ought no to be like this at all. The Mayor, Cillis, hired me. I haven't seen hide nor hair of him. Those guards are new to me as well, I didn't recognize their voices... Seeing as I was here no more than two weeks ago, I do have to worry that there might have been a...change in command." He watched as Kamina seemed to struggle to bring herself fully into reality. His eyes wandered again to the monstrous contraption on her back...poor thing. Torquehelm really had it out for its citizens, didn't it?
"Perhaps, Kamina, you might target that thing that just slipped into the hallway? I'd...I would rather it didn't wheel around and...do anything to Eurwen." He mumbled, realizing that this was an unkind thing to do...especially if this was a misunderstanding. But thus far? It didn't seem to be. He watched the girl lick Jovan's cheek with a small smile. Interesting night, for all its dangers, wasn't it?
Eurwen, meanwhile. Tossed the tape-measure down into the darkness. 12 seconds of silence followed this action, followed by a dull thunk and a horrible howl of agony. As though it had just struck something full in the face... The screams of pain went on and on, as other voices joined the chorus, some obviously calling for help, or family, while others simply sounded like cries of feral rage and fear. Behind her, down the hall, something snorted. And came running back. Eurwen heard pounding paws and a raging snarl as something rounded the corner in an attempt to get back to the door. Thick-bodied, Selkie tufts all cut short for running; the Ace of Spades streaked around the bend. Eyes wide with rage, the Doberman/Moose mix pulled back thick lips to reveal unpleasantly sharp teeth as it stalked closer to that little metal door.
Outside; the creature twitched and flinched away from Simun, its body quivering as it foamed a little...something thick and..redder than before seeping from the areas where its eyes floated. "Brrrrokeeeennnnn....allllllll....brokennnnnn." It hissed, spitting out a few fragments of bone and teeth, covered in sludge and heaving as though somehow about to vomit. It then quivered to a halt, large eyes roving over the Skunk and hissing balefully. "No, no, no, no, no, no.... she....hurt me.....broken..." Victor could feel fear and a terrible, all-consuming sadness radiating off of the thing as it twisted pitifully, before slowly...painfully...spitting out a scrap of fur. White, patterned with what looked like Selkie swirls...but all...messed up. Brown tinged and in yellow. Horrible looking. It moaned in pain and frothed again. Sho felt something odd happening and sneezed, it felt like there was something in her eyes...))
