Kaden stopped, staring in obvious surprise at the letter that revealed itself upon their leaving the bar. What... the... hell? When Goatee Man faded out of view and Ivy was done reading the letter, Kaden arched a brow. So he was some sort of dashing assassin, was he? That seemed appropriate considering their location.
His grin returned with Ivy's cheerful question and he bobbed his head with a cheerful shrug of his wings. "I can't really say no." Zombie apocalypse, huh? That was really the most perfect description he could think to use for this oddly vacant night. "It's not right to leave a friend out by themselves in a zombie apocalypse. Besides, I was having fun chatting with you." He flashed his usual charming playful grin before Quicksand's grumbling and shifting brought the bird's attention down to him. Oh... yeah, crap.
"Hey, do you mind if we stop by my dad's apartment along the way? I need to drop off this booze and probably Quicksand as well, for that matter. Poor bugger won't be of much use with his leg all banged up." The bander snorted in response to his name, squirming in the bag.

Oh nice. She wouldn't be left alone to fend for herself on a night like this. The more they lingered out here the more creepy things seemed. What was with the silence anyway? It was never silent in the city.
"That sounds like a great idea," she said as she put the letter back in its place. "I'm sure Quicksand will appreciate it and since I doubt we'll find any doctors open tonight...." she trailed off, her brow furrowed. No point in dwelling on the strange. They had places to go, and she wasn't going to do it alone.
But in the silence everything seemed to take longer than it actually did. They arrived at the apartment after an amount of time she couldn't place. She asked politely if she could leave her little stuffed animal with the bander and liquor. it could ride around in her money pouch, but really she didn't want to carry it and look like a dork.
She would hang on to the box though. It was still something she could use to bludgeon people, not to mention that they could still open it.
Up up and away. It was going to be a long walk.

Kaden nodded thoughtfully. He wasn't much of a thinker or a worrier, he did things as they came to him and generally just went with the flow of everything. Life was to be enjoyed. Tonight, however, warranted some actual concern -- however mild -- and he definitely welcomed Ivy's company throughout all of it. Especially during the long, all too quiet walk back to his father's apartment.
Honestly, he didn't remember it taking so long.
Inside, everything was quiet and untouched as it usually was. Father only used this place when he was traveling in the city and, even then, he didn't hang around long enough for it to be properly lived in. Kaden stashed the liquor and Ivy's doll, and penned Quicksand up where he couldn't hurt his leg any further. Hopefully he wouldn't need the little guy again to night, not that he would be help whether or not he was there.
Once they were back out on the street, Kaden kept close to Ivy. The longer they were out in the strange darkness, the more uncomfortable he felt. Why wasn't there anyone around aside from him and Ivy? Had something happened that they hadn't heard? A celebration? Riot? Should he be taking advantage of the isolation and looting houses? He glanced to Ivy's box again.
"It must be nice having paws like those," he commented idly. "Are you any good at lock picking? I've been working on that little magic trick, but there are time limits and what not that get in the way." He hopped on one foot momentarily, wiggling his talons. "It'd be nice to have some real dexterity to work with."

The silence was slowly starting to get to the mouse. Something had to be happening that they didn't know about. They were quietly walking along when Kaden, thankfully broke the silence.
Eurwen gave a small shrug, the box shifting on her back as she did so. "I'm not outstanding when it comes to lock picking. On normal locks I stand at least a decent chance of picking it. Against something like this box? I'm not as lucky. I really should get off of my ass and learn some more magic."
A small sigh escaped her as she eyed some of the houses. The only places that seemed to have people in them were the bars. That seemed a little odd. She was starting to think that her comment about the zombie apocalypse was true.
"Nothing says we can't break the box though... it's pretty sturdy. I imagine we can find a crow bar or something in one of the shadier places. If you see something along the way like a tool store... I imagine we can raid it."
The sound of Kaden's talons and her foot falls weren't much to break the silence. She edged closer to the bird as they walked, trying to think of positive things as they went. Ayden, information, potentially opening the box she was still balancing on her back. Nope. Things were still damn creepy.

After a night like they'd just had, learning some magic really did seem like a good idea. The bird clucked his beak approvingly. "I really should to. Most of my magic I've just stumbled on. Useful shit, honestly, but still mostly by accident."
In most things, Kaden enjoyed the blunt straight-forward answer. Breaking the box definitely fit that criteria, though a part of him wished for human hands so he could give the delicate task a go. Ah well, breaking and smashing were also pleasant concepts and he would be more than inclined to help Ivy get into the box.
"Breaking and Raiding are more than fine by me." He grinned cheerfully. With a task at hand, he could forget about the unpleasantness around him.
After some meandering through the still night, Kaden finally spotted a tool store. Good enough. A nearby rock smashed down the front of the store window and, with everyone cleared off the street, it was an easy in and out job. "Here we are. Why don't you do the honor?" He perched on one leg, holding the crowbar with the other, and grinned wide with anticipation.

It had only been, maybe, and hour and a half by the time they found a hardware store. They still had a long way to go, and Eurwen was getting tired of carrying the box around. Not physically of course, it was just getting tedious balancing the stupid thing. Finding out the contents would be a wonderful reward.
Eurwen couldn't help but grin when hardware store was located and Kaden so skillfully shattered the window. It was nice to be able to do some bad things without being notice. Anyway, it was just a crowbar and a window.
"You're such a gentlemen," she said cheerfully as she accepted the crowbar. She carefully placed the box against the wall so she could jam the hinges of the box with her full force. That was until she heard the unmistakable sound of foot steps. She stopped in mid-thrust, her head turning around to see the faint figure of someone living. She hoped they were living at least.
"Hey you!" said the figure. "What do you think you're doing over there?"
They came trotting at a rather fast pace, the unmistakable uniform on their visage. Of course an officer of the law had caught them.
"So Kaden, think we can convince a cop to escort us through the creepy shell of a city after breaking a window?"

Kaden had never really had the pleasure of having a partner in crime before, but already he was enjoying it. They made a good team, and Ivy was fun. That was always a bonus. He made a dramatic bow once she'd taken the crowbar before stepping back to let Ivy do her work. As Clubs they both had some fairly impressive strength to them and if she could carry that box around like it was lighter than air than she could more than certainly smash it.
Except, of course, if they were interrupted.
Kaden swung around as a, curse it all, Copper appeared on the scene. He glanced at the broken window, down at Ivy with her box, and back at the cop. This would've gone over smoother is wounded Quicksand was here, for some reason the Coppers had a weak spot in the form of cute little pets. Perhaps it made him look more innocent? Regardless, Quicksand wasn't here and he'd have to think fast.
"Of course we can." Thank you never-ending aura of confidence. Once the Copper was close enough, Kaden grinned bashfully. "Trying to open her box. My bander ate her key." He looked very forlorn for a moment before his expression brightened. "Oh hey! Would you know happen to know where everyone is? It's creepy quiet out here."

Eurwen felt a bit of cheer bubble up. Kaden was good at covering, she probably wouldn't even have to act like a dumb blonde to keep for getting punished. She brushed her main back a bit. "Yeah, I should have had a spare made. We figured that we could grab a crowbar since some of the buildings have already been smashed up." She gave a small and bashful shrug.
Petunia wrinkled her nose and the pair of them. Tonight had been filled with strange, and this was actually... fairly normal. She would have been more willing to drag them to the station if it looked like they were actually looting things. "Right," she said, the skepticism oozing into her voice. "How about you get a move on and open the box somewhere... safe. I don't know what's going on tonight but I don't think you two should be running around outside like this."
She gave the pair of them a stern look.
Eurwen tapped her digits on the crowbar. "Actually, We're trying to get to the public fountain. We'd appreciate it if you could escort us a little bit of the way." As Eurwen spoke she saw something blurry in the distance. She couldn't quite make it out beyond the fact that it had long ears like a donkey. It disappeared as soon as she tried to focus on it.
The cop distracted her on top of that.
"Then let's get a move on. And I would like to take your names and addresses down just in case..." she narrowed her eyes.
Eurwen waved a paw dismissively as she slipped a belt on that she had managed to grab before the Esterberry had showed up to ruin their fun. She slipped the crowbar into one of the notches before hoisting the box up again. "Ivy," she said before listing off a fictitious address.

Kaden was terribly pleased. Ivy complimented his story perfectly and the Copper looked disapproving but accepting. It probably didn't hurt that they were a splash of normal in the middle of all this intense weird. What was less pleasing to hear was that Copper-lady didn't know what was going on either.
For all that it was a ruse, Kaden had been hopeful that maybe she knew something. Of course not. She just had to add a cherry on the top of Weird Night Pie.
For a moment he thought he caught a glint of movement, his brows furrowing slightly, but he didn't have time to think on it before the Copper spoke. His name? Ah yeah. "Name's Kaden," he chipped in and rattled off the address to his Father's apartment. Hatter wouldn't mind. Once all the formalities were out of the way, Kaden waved a wing cheerfully. "Shall we be on the way?"
Having the Copper along seemed like a wonderful idea. It might keep the silence at bay, at very least, and give them something to distract them while they walked. "Have you seen anyone else out, Miss? You're the first person we've run into all night. Aside from the crowds around the bars."

Eurwen started with a spring in her step. At least they had someway to break the silence.
Petunia felt a little awkward, but she was thankful for the change in pace and actually stumbling onto someone who wasn't drunk. "Not really? There were a few people I passed by who were a little tipsy, but beyond that you're the only ones. Even the shops that should be open aren't. It's just the pubs." She hadn't spend much time in the city, but she knew that it wasn't supposed to be like this. Ever.
Eurwen didn't like the sound of that. So no one knew what was going on? Even the police? That certainly explained Ayden's note about them being useless. She hoped that he would at least be able to shed a little light on the matter.
"Speaking of bars, you might want to check in at the Fallen Wing. Some weird stuff was going on when we were there..." she trailed off when she saw another hint of a figure in the distance. They weren't alone out here, were they?
