The muttbird frowned a bit. He never made a point of relying on the police, they were as potentially corrupt as the rest of the world, but they at least usually knew what was going on. That this Copper didn't was a little unnerving.
"That's what we were noticing as well. Weird stuff, man, really weird stuff." He shook his head, catching another glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye. His feathers ruffled oddly followed by the chilling sensation of being watched. Suits. He gave an empathic nod to Ivy's suggestion. Good way to slip it in... though the way she trailed off... had she seen something as well?
He kept the thought to himself for now, trying to ignore whatever it might be.
"Oh, so y'know, I don't think we caught your name?" Might as well ask if they were going to be keeping each other company for a bit. He didn't exactly relish the idea of accidentally calling her 'Copper'.

The Esterberry's ears swiveled around. She could swear she was hearing things, but she wasn't seeing much of anything. She tilted her head at the comment about the Fallen Wing. It was completely in the other direction, and if she wanted to make it there it would be quite a walk to make. Oh right. Name. "Penny," she said with a small toothy smile.
Eurwen's large ears were hearing hints of this and that. They were being watched. It wasn't her imagination. And there was probably more than one thing out there. Person. She hoped they were just people and not actually the undead raising from the grave. She was in no way prepared to battle the undead. "Penny? You parents had a sense of humor." She commented idly as they continued to walk down the empty streets.
"Right, because Ivy is so damn clever."
The mouse wrinkled her nose, she was going to give a snarky reply back until there was a crashing sound in front of them. A trash can rolled out into the street not too far ahead of them. Eurwen had jumped, the box nearly knocking her in the head.

"Pleasure to meet ya." He resisted he urge to snicker. The Copper's name was Penny. Copper Penny. He would've commented on the hilarious name had he not been interrupted by a sudden loud crash from somewhere up ahead.
Instantly all of his feathers bristled up and, for a short and hilarious moment, he would resemble nothing more than a ball of colorful feather-fluff. Suits! He quickly smoothed down his feathers, watching the trashcan roll slowly and (in Kaden's mind) ominously into the street.
Definitely wasn't hallucinating.
And it would seem Copper Penny was right. This hadn't been the best place to stop and toy with their fancy box, but at least now they had a crowbar to bludgeon someone with. And the box, for that matter. "I choose to believe that this is the work of a drunken hobo." He stated out loud, reassuring himself that there were no such things as Zombies. Lowlanders, yes. Zombies, no. He may have all the confidence in the world, but confidence could only do so much to make a zombie fight seem appealing.
For that matter, drunken hobo fights weren't that appealing either but that was another matter all together.

"Pleasure indeed," Petunia had managed to say before the trash can rolled out in front of them. She hesitated for a moment. She was the officer of the law, so she should probably see what that was. Why had she decided to do the right thing? "You two... get a move on. I'm going to go and investigate."
Eurwen found her heart beating faster than she thought it should. What the suits? She looked to Kaden with a mildly confused expression. Hobo? Oh she really hoped it was some sort of hobo. "Ah well... we'll stay put for a little bit just in case... you need help or something?"
Why did she just make that offer? The mouse edged a bit closer to the bird. It was now painfully silent yet again. The only sound that broke it was the breathing and the padding of the officers paws on the street. The mouse watched as the woman disappeared into the alleyway.
"We should probably pick up the pace after this," Eurwen said to break the silence after a few moments.

Kaden paused, arching a brow as Ivy offered to hang around to help the Copper out. He may not have been the sort of criminal that attempted to off every cop he stumbled across, but he also wasn't of the habit of helping them either. Then again, Ivy had never admitted to being a criminal and she was rather moral. Either way, Kaden didn't question it.
He kept close to Ivy, both sets of wings slightly fluffed up in a defensive stance as he prepared himself to the possible need to sprint the hell out of there.
If it was an unruly hobo like he chose to believe it was, then all would be fine and the officer would scare it off. If, however, it was a brain-munching undead beast... well, Kaden had no intention of helping with that and, honestly, no intention of allowing Ivy to hang around either. Best to sacrifice their helpful friend and live to see another day. or her showy date. Whatever.
"Agreed." Kaden murmured, watching in concern as Penny slipped out of sight into the alley. There was silence for a moment. Long, unnerving silence... and then, just as Kaden leaned forward hesitantly, there was another crash and the officer let out a shrill scream. Kaden's feathers ruffled up again, curse them, and he jolted backward. Suits, really?! Why couldn't it just be a Hobo?!
He glanced back at Ivy. "We should do something, shouldn't we?"

Ivy jumped at the scream. Suits. Of course it wasn't something as simple as a hobo. Eurwen looked at Kaden with a rather pitiful expression. "We should at least check to see if she's okay."
The mouse swallowed her anxiety and scurried forward. She made sure that the box was ready to be thrown just in case it was some sort of untold monster.
Petunia was screaming. And flailing, and screaming some more. She had decided to forget about being a good and just officer of the law when she saw what had been poking around in the alley.
The creature was like nothing she had seen before. With long ears, and no mark on its chest. The Esterberry stumbled backwards before she managed to gain her footing. She blew past Eurwen and Kaden, still screaming as she went down the way they had come from.
Eurwen was holding the box in her arms as she peered down the alleyway. Her eyes widened when she saw the poor very confused creature staring back at her. "What," she stated with a shaky voice, "Is that?"

Kaden groaned a little to himself. He didn't like this one bit, but he wasn't about to let Ivy go ahead alone. With his usual confidence, Kaden hurried along after his friend -- watching in surprise as the Copper blew past them in a blur of white, purple, and bronze. Well, so much for that assistance. Ha!
When he turned back, Ivy was poised at the entrance to the alley and shakily questioning whatever it was they had revealed in the alley. Apparently it wasn't a truly disturbing monster, because Ivy hadn't rushed off in screaming mindless terror. He scooted closer and blinked in surprise when he saw what was staring back at him.
Oh. Ohhh.
"Huh... It's a Rabbit. One of the little ones." He frowned deeply. Marchie mentioned something about them once, and Dad talked about 'em plenty but Kaden couldn't quite remember what they called these guys or exactly what they did. "I'm, uhh, fairly sure they're harmless." Then again, he didn't really want to hang around and find out just how harmless it may or may not be. "We might just want to keep moving... I think Penny's long gone anyhow."

Eurwen hadn't run mostly because her curiosity often got the better of her. That most certainly was some sort of monster, and she was slowly edging away. "A.... Rabbit?" she voiced in disbelief. Those were the things from fairy tales, and that looked nothing like how they were described. But fairy tales had been wrong before, right? "Okay... let's uh... go."
She slowly backed away keeping her eyes locked on the creature. The little rabbit seemed to be mildly confused and was slowly weaving its way back down the alley. Weaving. That didn't seem very good.
The mouse gave a small sigh of relief. "How exactly... do you know that thing was a rabbit? I mean it... didn't look like anything I've ever seen before."
What else was out there tonight? Were they going to get attacked. She swallowed hard. How much longer did they have to walk? Probably just about an hour or so left of time. She hoped anyway.

Kaden hadn't realized how good it was to be moving until they had stopped. Those few painstaking minutes of tentative rest had suddenly put the bird very much on edge and he restarted their journey with far greater enthusiasm. So long as they kept walking, Kaden didn't have to really contemplate the disconcerting silence. It was constant, yes, but not nearly so bad when one stopped to really take it in.
He glanced down at Ivy, clucking his beak thoughtfully. Would she really believe him? Or would she end up writing him off as insane? "There's a Rabbit living in my dad's basement." He glanced down to Ivy, keeping his pace quick though not so much that he would out stride Ivy. "He's bigger than that little guy, a biped, but he's got the same ears and tail -- no rank. We talk every now and then, and he's told me a little about his culture." He clucked his beak nervously and grinned. "Do you really believe me? Most people just write me off as insane right away."
Regardless, at least they had something fairly consuming to discuss. Perhaps this was why Father enjoyed using Rabbits as a conversation piece so much.

Eurwen found herself torn. Considering one of her siblings was a Joker, could she chalk up rabbits to being some mythical creatures that couldn't possibly exist? No, she really couldn't. But the idea of just finding one in the middle of the city was unnerving.
She was glad that they had picked up the pace. It would be a nonstop to their destination--unless they ran into something else. Which was perfectly possible at this point. At least she had the box and crowbar still.
"Well... you know. I've seen stranger things," she said after a moment. "My brother looks like something out of a holy text, one of my sisters is covered in glass, and another one is something out of a story book. So I suppose the idea of a rabbit existing isn't too much of a stretch." She wrinkled her nose. "But you know, I thought they would be... different? More like the rabbits that people are afraid to keep as pets but are willing to eat?"
She gave a small shrug, the box shifting on her back as she did so. Ah, shrugging and walking while balancing something on one's back was a dumb idea.
"Do you think we'll run into any other myths out there?"
