Jarvis! That was right. He was uncertain how he could have misplaced someone with mechanical spider appendages, but perhaps the Corvie weirdness censor and the stressful situation at large could account for that. He couldn't dwell on the vagaries of memory for long, however.
The good news--more people coming out of the woodwork, Wulfram and Devika emerging from their hiding places--was quite rapidly overshadowed by the word beheaded, and was further choked out of existence by the mist that suddenly poured in, as though nature had to take the pronouncement of people losing their blasted heads and make it appropriately creepy and dramatic. It worked. Zeki shivered and his fur stood up on end and he wrapped his arms around his midsection in a gesture meant to both ward off the cold and serve as a pitiful defensive maneuver.
And then the clicking began, slowly, its source unseen in the mist, obviously closing in on them. Zeki bit his lip.
Click click click.
Zeki looked at Wulfram.
Click click click.
Zeki gave a small internal sigh and thought of course this is happening, after everything else, why wouldn't it be, and he braced himself for flight of confrontation.
Click click clickclickclickclick.
It was Alex.
His sigh was large, external, and extremely relieved. Like Jarvis, he wondered what in the merry levels of unethical Corvie hell the little bird was doing here, but unlike Jerome, he did not growl.
"Please don't scare him," he told the akita, as conciliatory as possible. The mist was freaking him out too, but maybe the little Ace had seen something...

Wulfram inclined his head to the men but it was obvious he was somewhat preoccupied just then. His red gaze darted around, wary of the fact that the foreboding sense of being watched had yet to dissipate. His brows furrowed when Jarvis mentioned beheadings and he turned toward the man, only to have his attention caught by something in a nearby window. It flashed by too quickly to get a proper look and he was left with nothing more than a sense of wrongness before the room suddenly filled with a thick, cold mist.
The bipedal crow's feathers fluffed up, only made worse by Jerome's intense growling and now the rapid clicking of something approaching. Instinctively he reached for the razor he'd hidden in his vest pocket but he hesitated when the only thing that appeared was an Ace.
Hmm. "You know this Ace?" He arched a brow at Zeki and Jarvis though his eyes were still warily narrowed.

Things.
Utterly terrifying things were happening. It was overwhelming, and she honestly didn't know what to do. So in her terror she buried her face in Wulfram's feathers. It was safe, and if something was going to try to kill her, she at least wouldn't see it coming. Of course she realized as she was trying to use the man to hide that she was embarrassingly close to his crotch, and it probably wouldn't be very productive for him during a chant with the new strange people.
She stayed there for a few long moments, completely unsure of what action to take next. People were saying things, weird things were happening, and she couldn't follow any of it to save her life.
Probably should stop embarrassing the Queen of Spades. Slowly she removed herself and decided, to slink over to the nearest wall out of everyone's way. She was quite thankful that her blush couldn't be seen and everyone was busy with a distraction.
(( OOC: Yes, I got permission to crotch hug Wulfram. ))

((The Ace tilts his head and gives a little smile, slowly hopping toward the Chipmunk and pausing as he passes to sniff appreciatively at the Human Crow. His eyes skim over Zeki as he makes sounds of acknowledgment, before he pushes his head gently into the chipmunk's palm and nudges it, chirping.
He gazed around at the group and his eyes fell on Devika...his head tilted to one side, and then the other...an odd smile drifting over his beak as his twisted away from the Chipmunk and hopped lightly toward the Puffin. Chirping quietly, he tried to poke his head near her.))

Wulfram makes a soft noise as Devi abruptly latches onto him, her beak quite close to his inner thigh. He cleared his throat very slightly and grinned down at the girl before giving her a gentle pat on the head. Sweet innocent thing, he did so enjoy the odd product of his brief rabbit pet. He gave her a gentle pat before she slipped away, hugging the wall as he studied the Ace. It seemed to be acting appropriately -- sniffing, chirping and wearing a small smile -- and even presses up against the chipmunk in obvious affection.
At least that answered his question. However, Wulfram couldn't quite push his paranoia aside. He'd seen an Ace once that acted just like a card, cunning and sharp-tongued, and he'd been somewhat wary of the full-grown creatures since. Most were dumb as rocks, but he didn't like surprises.
And then, as if to prove a point to his paranoia, the thing suddenly focused on Devi and smiled in a way that made Wulfram frown. As it hopped toward her, Wulfram stepped closer to the girl and somewhat between them. She would be able to potentially investigate it if she chose, but he was close and one large white wing hovered protectively over her.

Devika was doing her best to stay out of everyone's way. She felt terribly embarrassed, and she honestly didn't know what to do in a situation like that. So she simply stayed pressed against the wall and watched the Ace greet people it seemed to know.
It was kind of cute.
She didn't expect it to try and come over. She froze for a moment, a mild panic welling up. Wait. Was she supposed to pet it? Would it try to bite her? How exactly was she supposed to treat a pet? What if everyone was still watching her?
Wulfram was suddenly there. She choked back a sound of distress and confusion still thinking about her stupidity as the Ace seemed to be interested in her. Maybe she should try and pet it?
"Er... hello," she said after the Ace chirped at her. Her eyes flickered up to the Tulgey man for a brief moment before she edge a bit closer to the Villa. She was still pretty close to the Queen of Spades. "Do you want me to pet you or something Mr. Birdy?" She tentatively reached out a wing.

Wiglaf let out a strangled cry; it was not at all the typical masculine sound, it was an ugly, squawking neigh of shock and distress such as no living creature except a horse ever gave. Silver hairs flying loose and wildly across his face, the Percheron tossed his head, squeezing his eyes shut and clamping his hands over his ears to try and block out the deafening noise that were making his ears throb in pain, as well as the multiple confusing sights. As a social animal, it was instinctive to reach out and touch a hand or paw reaching out to you and- together -draw comfort from each other, grant safety when in peril, and find strength and hope to go on. So, Wiglaf had obliged and allowed Vaska to come closer, huddling near the gibbering bat. Then, as suddenly as it had started, it stopped. Wiglaf stiffened in shock, his heart beating hard against his chest. His first instinct the moment after the cessation of sound had been to breathe again. He took a deep breath of air to refill his lungs, and then another deep breath with Vaska breathing in sync. He stayed like that for a moment before straightening. Glancing around, his brown eyes were wide with horror as he took in the damage that had laid waste to the lavish surroundings. "We gotta go."The whispered words fell into the oppressive silence like stones thrown against the window of a mausoleum. Wiglaf winced visibly. He blinked a couple of times and looked down into the boy's face. Vaska was still sitting there inches away, eyeing the ghost, while chewing on his lower lip. Wiglaf raised an inquiring eyebrow at him. Go where? In response to the unasked question, the insane brat actually had a moment of lucidity and made it clear: "Gotta find my brothers."Numb with disbelief, Wiglaf could only stare, his gaze never wavering as the young bat got up and started to head in the direction he'd pointed a wing-claw in without saying a word. Gradually, he pushed himself to his feet, but just stood there. Farther and farther Vaska moved away, and yet still he remained rooted to that spot. Glancing over his shoulder, his brow furrowed in worry, Wiglaf moved his arms up and crossed them over his chest so that each hand could grasp the opposite shoulder. It was so much easier to be brave for Beowulf's sake. When the heroic crow would hold his word aloft, pointed at an enemy, uttering a battle cry, Wiglaf would be charging in right behind him. Unfortunately, Beowulf wasn't here. Turning his head to the side, he tore his gaze away, watching Vaska disappear further into the hall. Everything happens for a reason, no matter how obscure the reason may be. It was one of his own deepest-held philosophies; thus Wiglaf knew, in his heart of hearts, he could not turn his back on an 'innocent.' It was important somehow. Vaska was being allowed to see a ghost, usually invisible to all but his chosen haunt. Why? Gathering up his courage, the Sorgaire Ranger took a step forward. I need to know... He then put another hoof in front of the other. I need to understand what's happening. Or else he could never look Beowulf right in the eye ever again. Not after everything Wiglaf had told him about the taboo paranormal nature of ghosts. With some trepidation, Wiglaf trailed after the Solandrian through the hall. Maybe... maybe if he went with Vaska he could find some answers. * * * Keeping a safe distance, Wiglaf continued his shadowing of the boy bat. A fine mist slowly seeped into the hallway, obscuring him from view, but not preventing him from keeping an eye on Vaska. The ethereal tall blue-and-white stallion stopped dead in his tracks upon hearing a sound from down in the hall. With head held high, ears pricked and swivelling frantically to find the origin of the sound, Wiglaf wondered to himself, What was that noise?Trotting up next to Vaska, he spoke for the first time since the previous strange event. "Hey, did you hear that too?"

The chipmunk blinked several times in rapid succession when the rather large, and powerful looking canine insisted on growling at the Ace like it was going to devour him whole. Alex was an Ace, and one that he'd never really viewed as highly intelligent. Why would the man be so spooked over him? It was puzzling, and his tone didn't entirely hide his confusion.
Jerome, Alex isn't going to hurt you. He's harmless, never seen him be anything but either.
Hell, the bird was a child's pet, how much more harmless could you get? He even reached out and went to give the avian a quick scratch on the head when he passed.
Jerome backed away from the Ace as it came up, not trusting the thing for an inch. He watched at the crow placed himself between the girl and the Ace and he instantly knew that the Queen was having similar thoughts. He looked up with his one remaining eye, trying to catch the man's gaze for a moment before moving over toward the window.
fine, if everyone was going to scold him for being suspicious they could deal with the aftermath while he did something constructive and see if he could see anything outside still. He did, however, keep an ear tilted back to listen for any trouble.

(( Alex gave another little chirp and opened his wings delightedly, flapping them gently at the Puffin and getting down lower as though hoping she would pet him, eyes fixed on her wings and the Crow beside her. Head bobbing and simple smile back in place, he looked up at Wulfram with an expression that slipped into being near rapture, and then back to simple happiness, attempting to butt his head affectionately against the Crow's leg. Even as Jerome and Jarvis seem to be calming down...a sudden gust of wind begins to tear at the windows, the sound becomes horrifyingly loud, until the window near the luckless pair is ripped out and a black cyclone descends, sucking them both out into the air, and out of sight. Jarvis and Jerome are being deposited in this thread:
decadentsuits.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=capitalrp&action=display&thread=7313&page=5
On their backs in the dank street around the bend from what sounds like a large group of voices...hurry! Maybe this other lot can explain what's going on!))~Nathalia

The girl gave a small smile at the strange bird. He seemed really happy all of a sudden and apparently he did want her to pet him. She reached out with a wing to brush him lightly on the head. "Nice to meet you," she said cheerfully.
It seemed to really like Wulfram too. She glanced up at the Queen of Spades when the rook attempted to nuzzle his leg. Did most Aces act like this? Should she ask? Then again she didn't want to ask silly questions when other people were around. It seemed like this was proper behavior. Her ears twitched at the sound of wind.
Which grew louder and suddenly sucked two people out of the room.
She squawked and automatically when to hide against Wulfram. He was the closest and largest thing that could shield her from whatever was happening, and she didn't know what else to do.
