((The Admin will need each Dealer to choose a number between 1 and 30, Vyn needs to choose one for each character and specify whose is whose and include it in the bottom of your next post. You are all attempting to spot something. A number has already been chosen for each character and we're seeing how close you can get to it, so choosing all 30's or all 1's may not do you any good at all; higher does not necessarily mean better for every person. Good luck.))

Lucius paused and let out a short suffering sigh. Yes, of course... He should've realized he needed to explain himself.
"Do pardon me, I assumed one would realize I had a destination in mind and was not just wandering aimlessly." Malachior frequently found it terribly hard to tell if Lucius was being purposefully condescending or if he was perpetually trapped in that bored drawling sneer and now was absolutely no different. The old Buck stared at the snake who had turned to face the group with the slightest hint of disdain for being forced to explain himself. "I have been to the Court on a couple occasions to meet with Her Majesty Xiven. I'm fairly certain we can reach the Queen's study from those stairs," he motioned with his cane to a stairway at the end of the hall, "and that was my goal, if there are no protests?"
Malachior had visited the Court of Hearts before on business but that had been ages ago and he was certain his knowledge of the halls had deteriorated to the point where he did not quite trust himself to offer directions. Whether or not Conall knew his way around was uncertain and Malachior didn't feel it was right to put such a concern on his shoulders.
While Lucius spoke, Malachior studied the grand halls surrounding them. The ominous feeling had yet to dissipate and the fact that they were stopping only made the uneasy feeling grow. His ears panned forward, alert for any little sound.
(12 for Malachior. 22 for Lucius)

Conall was half way between bursting into tears and running to hide. Sabe's comment didn't help. Weren't nobles simply people who had good connections? Was this idiot club who he really claimed to be? A small whine escaped him as he clutched the deer's hand a bit tighter. His reassuring squeezes were the only thing preventing him from breaking down on the spot. The police woman was nice, but really, what could she do in a situation like this?
And then, of course, Lucius was kind enough to be a snarky bastard. The boy sniffed for moment as he debated on making a nasty comment back. Of course that was stupid, and would achieve absolutely nothing so he kept his mouth shut. The snake was going to be bastard no matter what. The long carriage ride filled with silence and glaring was proof of that.
With a small and grumpy hiss he glanced around the room, the uneasy feeling wasn't going away. His tail twitched, half trying to tuck itself between his legs. He quietly let the deer lead him to where they needed to go, glancing around the palace. The emptiness was almost unbearable, and the merry little band could easily step into trouble.

Pain. Alex jerked back into consciousness with a harsh caw, but there was no one present to hear it. The group had long since moved on, leaving the bird in the back of the carriage, completely alone. There was a brief flicker of panic that went through him, but he took a few deep breaths. His head was throbbing with pain, though he had no memory of why. Then again, he also had no memory of climbing into a carriage, so clearly not everything was quite as it should have been. The first thought in his mind was that he was in serious danger. He wasn't the first Ace to wake up in-pain and somewhere unfamiliar - perhaps the traders had gotten ahold of him! With a desperate squawk, he threw himself against the carriage door and forced it open, tumbling out in a ball of flapping wings. Freedom! He still seemed to be at the Court - that was good. He had to find Vaska! As quickly as he could manage, he skip-hopped back towards home, eyes wide and terrified. Someone had to help him!

Sabe looked to those that he was with, answering that the deer had his approval. The Queens Study would be a great place to find someone or something that could point them to what they needed to do. Something was wrong, especially since what Davey the young Midori had stated. There had to be clues somewhere, something this big doesn't just happen for no reason... and no one was this careful to clean up everything so no one figured it out. The nerve of that person or thing... though that brought another point. . . why was he chosen? Was he a threat to this?
In his thoughts he caught the sound of something fast approaching... "Something coming" he sated as he turned back to the entrance... his cane at the ready, keeping a vigilant eye for anything that may come at them.
((Sabe chose the number: 1... >> thanks http://www.random.org))

That snake was the sort of noble who would have taken pleasure in shining lights in her young face if he'd been a titled Spade, Fetu was sure. Bastard. She wore a very neutral expression and simply tried her hardest to ignore him, something her job had taught her to do with increasing frequency. She put the snake and the freakish child from her mind as best she could and continued down the hall.
At least they had some idea where they were headed. She certainly didn't, beyond trying to find someone alive who could speak to them. There had to be someone! Even in the Capital, there had been people. She'd just had to stumble across them.
When Queen Sabe spoke, the chipmunk froze. Then she slid to the side of the hallway, pressing herself close to the expensive wallpaper, and listened for whatever he had caught wind of. Was there anything there, or were they all simply spooked? She would hate to look like a fool in front of this crowd.

(( As the Ace hopped back in through the door...he felt something very strange happening to his lower body...something wrong.
As soon as he skids into the main hallway with the others... He seems to split.
This mouth is capable of speaking in up to three different voices and up to 3 different languages at once and is terrifying to any Card ranked Jack or lower. Higher Cards may find it frightening as well, yes, but they aren't forced to.
As if that weren't enough, Officer Fetu and Malachoir happened to glance out of an upper window at the hills out behind the Palace...dark and foreboding. Something flickered by the window.
What was that!??))~Nathalia

The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. And then the Ace, the one that he could have sworn he knew, rounded the corner. For a brief moment he thought something was going to go right, until, quite suddenly the Ace seemed to split in half.
And there was suddenly a mouth where it shouldn't be. The one thing that he had thought he knew had turned into a horrible monster. What if he was next? What if he was going to be murdered by the horrible bird monster?
For the young boy, it was a little too terrifying to handle. He released his grip on deer, let out a shrieking wail and attempted to bolt for the stairs. He wanted to hide. He wanted to get away from this frightening nightmare. And most of all he wanted his Mommy, even though he didn't know who that was.

Something's coming. How wonderfully ominous. Lucius turned toward the heron and his eyes narrowed into cold slits. What had he heard? Seen? Then again, perhaps he was merely on edge. The atmosphere held that persistent note of tension and wrongness, after all. It was easy enough to believe he was merely spooked. Or not. Suddenly the Ace came hop-running into the Palace, eyes wide before he suddenly split into a monster. The spectacle was starling enough that he stepped back and his usual look of bored disdain warped into one of honest surprise. He hissed out a Tulgey swear and prepared himself to fend off an assault from the potentially feral Ace. Just as the Ace split into a new and horrifying beast, Malachior's gaze happened to brush an upper window and some... thing flashed by. The old buck recoiled, his mind struggling to properly grasp what he'd just seen and his grip on Conall's hand momentarily falling slack in his distraction. A poor move, it would seem, for the shock of seeing the Ace split open was apparently too frightening for the boy to stand he suddenly bolted in the direction of the stairs. The spade King suddenly rushed forward, surprisingly nimble for one of his age, and snatched Conall's hand once more. "Don't." He gasped out, crouching down beside Conall as he dragged the boy closer to him. "Don't run. There's something else here and His Majesty can stop the Ace if necessary."In case Malachior was somehow wrong about his assumption, he summoned his tove to him. The strangely scarred neon tove wheeled through the air for a moment, whistling in distress at the feeling in the air before descending to latch onto Malachior's antler. (I had Kari's permission to grab Conall.<3)

Fetu was glad that she had moved, as she soon heard what had caught the Queen's attention. The Ace from before - what had happened to him? She couldn't help but stare, growing increasingly paranoid about this entire situation. And what would happen to them now that they were in this cursed place? This... it didn't seem to have been a very good idea, coming here.
Eyes still flicking all around, she suddenly jerked her head up and to the right, eyes going wide behind their glasses as... as something...
What was that?! Long and gaunt, almost skeletal, eerie in a way like she didn't want to have seen at all. Except having it running about on the outside of the building while they all remained inside and unawares seemed even worse.
"There is something outside this palace," she said in a low, tremulous voice. Yes, alright. That flash of something had freaked her out.
