((The corpse lets out an eerie, long, flat note that could have been a wail, or simply an expression of enjoyment as it uses its full, dusty weight to pin the Leveret to the ground ad begin tearing at her left hind leg. "You are not a good person. You know that...correct?" It whispered, no hint of emotion apparent as the Leveret's claws raked across its chest, scraping back a peel of leathery fur and skin and spewing red dust down onto the Rabbit, blinding her for the moment. Bony talons scrape bloody trails down the Rabbits' back before latching again into the left hind paw, just above the ankle, and starting to tear, as hard as it can. (20 O__o I haven't gotten above I think a 16 this whole contest, yay me!) The whistle does not seem to phase the beast as it continues to decimate the Leveret before it, feeling none of the other blows it may be landing and making no further noise. Its bony back twisting, showing the spine clearly impressed against the taut canvass of its back as the bones, quite literally, move about under their thin, skin covering. Nadja's words, however, seemed to strike a small chord, the creature freezing in an impossible pose for a few seconds, then slowly turning its neck in order to train its empty sockets on the Avington. "Would not do...to euthanize your faithful companion..." It lilts, then lists slightly, body hovering as it seems to be deciding what to do.))

Zulimar let out an unholy shriek when her efforts proved basically useless, and she began to tremble violently when the corpse-creature shoved her down as if she was weightless and insignificant. She babbled incoherently in response to the creature's words, blind with pain and the tears that were now streaming down her face and getting lost in her fur. She increased her clawing and shifted to his arm, desperately trying to wrench him off her leg before it ceased to be attached.
Just when the pain became its most blinding it suddenly paused to say something to Nadja, and she saw what was possibly the last opportunity she had. With all the energy she had she surged her torso forward and bit deeply into the wrist most attached and taring, and dug her claws into the arm surrounding it. The pain was threatening to send her into oblivion, but hell if she was going down without a fight!
((Soo, basically, I have no idea how to use the dice system, so Nat, if you could roll for how effective her attacks are for me, it would be much appreciated. <33))

Horatio was still making his way up the stairs, it was going to take a while considering he could only go at walking speed, but he was making progress. And he could hear a good amount of screaming, and honestly hoped it would continue until he got away.
Heike watched as his whistle did absolutely nothing to gain the creature's attention, and the leveret was flailing rather wildly. He felt mildly bade for Zuli, but a small part of him was debating on if he and Nadja could actually make it to the stairs before the thing decided to come after them.
Then Nadja spoke, and the monstrous creature just stopped. Apparently her plea was enough to make it debate with itself? Was it possible to talk it down. "Nadja, keep going," he whispered as he slowly reached for one of the boxes. Maybe he could find something that he could use as a weapon besides a foot stool.
The fallen box was the closest one, and he hastily went to shuffle through it. A broken candelabra, some extra wicks, broken bottles of oils, a very small metal tool that would probably be a toothpick compared to the horrible monster. There were bits of string, a broken child's doll that seemed to be one of those hideous human monsters, a few things that looked like journals, and some fabric. Nothing really screamed temporary weapon in the basement.
Maybe he could grab a chair in a nearby pitch? Why couldn't they have just been around trees, that would have made things so much easier. And Zuli didn't seem like she was going to sit still or run. Why couldn't she just run?

Oh! Heavens above! Nadja whimpered as the dead card tore into Zuli. Mauling her leg something awful and spraying blood and something like dust everywhere until Nadja couldn't tell what had come from Leveret and what had come from the mummified feline.
And then it stopped.
It honestly stopped and looked right at her. Her eyes welled with thankful tears and a bright, grateful smile spread over her muzzle. Thank the White Rabbit, it was listening to her! Heike's encouragement was all she needed. She edged very gently forward, eyes imploring. "That's right. It wouldn't be right at all. Friends are very important."
Hopefully she would be able to keep the creature transfixed long enough for Zuli to escape up the stairs. She dropped her gaze to the leveret for just a second to try and motion for her to do just that only to see her lunge at the monster.
"No, Zuli!" She cried out in panic. Why would she attack what was obviously already dead? She'd had an opening! Nadja couldn't guess what the creature would do next, especially now that it had been provoked. "Just run!"

((The monster stared at Nadja, head titling to the side as though considering her words; right before the Leveret it had torn into heaved forward and bit into its wrist, claws flying up to attack the same arm. A loud, brittle snap rang through the basement as the things arm came away in Zulimar's teeth, below the elbow. "You don't even care, do you?" It muttered, staring at the place where its arm had once been and then whipping down into the Leveret with such force and ferocity that within 5 seconds, it was over. The corpse, staggered away, leaving the Leveret flat on the floor; missing her left foot completely and with twin slashes across her right eye, resembling a large "X"...she's lucky the eye still works. Other deep slashes cover her body, but none as serious as those two. The corpse staggers back up, jaw listing open horribly as it seems to stare around, focuses on the stairs, and heaves the Leveret's foot at the Card slowly floating away before slinking toward the stairs after Horatio. (16) Heike seems to have found something, as has poor Zuli, who rolled over onto it:)) Candelabra's spell: The candelabra tingled slightly when touched...oh, dear. Whoever last owned this thing was a bit of a control freak, weren't they? Once a week, this Rabbit is now able to cause any Leveret to obey one strictly worded command. The victim cannot be ordered to kill another, or to kill or wound themselves...but they can be ordered to wound another and though their minds will still be their own, their bodies will carry out the Jack-given command, regardless of their pleas, until it is done. Scrap of Old Skin: This scrap of old skin once held a very important letter that is lost to the annals of time. When Zulimar's blood touched it, it absorbed the liquid, leaving no stain. Once her foot had been torn off, it instantly wrapped around the stump, binding it tightly and cauterizing the wound. This skin can never be removed and its parasitic embrace will remain on the Leveret unless she uses some forms of magic to attempt to get it off. Once a week, she is able to cause another Leveret of Cards ranked 6 and lower, to feel a little ill...before the skin around their mouths bubbles together seamlessly. Cutting will only cause pain as the skin will heal over again, and again, until an hour has passed and the spell lifts on its own.))[/i]

Heike twitched when he suddenly felt a tingle go through his arm. He wrinkled his nose at the Candelabra for a moment before looking up to see what was happening with Zuli. Of course the leveret had tried to attack the thing when Nadja had managed to potentially talk it down.
And then the thing proceeded to tear the leveret's leg clean off. His eyes widened in terror and disbelief. He prepared himself for the thing to turn their way and change it's mind about his wonderful sister. His fur stood on end as he stumbled towards her.
But it turned to the stairs.
Horatio failed to notice that the commotion had stopped until something hit him smack in the back of the head (1). He let out a squawk as he thoughtlessly dropped his flight ability. He hit the stairs with a hideous thud, his ball ringing out as it hit the ground. The weight proceeded to drag him down a few stairs, his chin smacking the edges as he scrambled to the best of his stubby limbed ability.
Something flopped besides him. Through watery eyes he saw something strange. He poked the limb with his beak. Oh wait. That was... oh. Oh dear. That was a body part.

Oh god. Why? Nadja's stomach flopped as the two collided once more but now there was no stopping the bloody mess that followed. The zombie's arm was yanked off at the elbow and, without warning, the creature fell upon Zulimar and just tore into her.
When the flurry of bloody motion finally came to an end, Zuli was missing a foot and her face was a mask of blood. Nadja made a pathetic sound of quiet horror, shaking her head.
As if the whole display wasn't terrible enough, the monster then chucked Zuli's foot at the card that appeared to be desperately attempting to escape the basement. No such luck. The foot pegged him in the head and he fell down the stairs somewhere next to the limb but by that point Nadja wasn't looking. She pressed her nose into Heike's leg and let out another pathetic little whine.
When her stomach was no longer so close to heaving up it's last contents, Nadja leaned slightly to examine the scene. She... needed to suck up her fear and do something. The creature seemed calmer when it was being spoken to and... Heavens... She needed to get to Zuli and make sure she wasn't dead. She swallowed and made another pitiful noise as she edged forward. "Z-Zuli?" She questioned gently, trying hard to breathe through her nerves and sickness. So much blood! "Are you okay?" Her gaze rolled toward the zombie as she spoke those last words. She'd lost almost just as much in all of this.

((Zuli seems to have passed out, probably from shock, it wouldn't be surprising. If you can patch her up...if that thing was any indication, then this might not be the best place to be. Horatio felt an odd tingle run all through his body as the object that hit him rolled to a halt nearby.)) Rabbits Foot: This terribly grisly appendage gives the person first to touch it, Horatio, the incredible ability to predict things that will happen about himself (within a mile) 5 minutes into the future, once a week...that could make for a good detective, H. That foot shouldn't leave his possession, though...something awful could happen. ((The corpse slithers up towards the Penguin, stumbling brokenly without its arm and on its broken leg. "Remember that time we pretended to kill you? That was fun..." It whispers as it passes, before slipping up the stairs and out the door with a few clicks and a rustle of old, dry skin.))

( XD rabbit's foot is win. *snickers* )
Horatio blinked as his entire body tingled after touching the foot. How strange. Was it supposed to do that? He blinked for a few moments as he tried to collect himself. He heard the monster stumbling towards him. He froze and held his breath.
It whispered a rather strange thing as it slid past him, obviously unbalanced and missing a limb. What did it mean by that commented anyway?
It was gone though. That was good. He pulled himself to a sitting position, and poked at the rabbit foot. Were the other monsters down there? Should he try to go up the stairs now? He hesitated for a moment, waiting for some sort of sound. When he heard the faint voice of the monster from earlier he slowly tried to edge up the stairs.
Heike watched as the strange creature slithered away. He sighed after a moment, collecting himself and walking over to join his sister. He poked the unconscious leveret with his foot, a frown spread across his face. "Stupid idiot should have taken the chance you gave her," he said eyed her wounds. "I suppose we should slap a few bandages on the waste of space before departing. Though quite honestly we should let her bleed to death."
Turning away he reached down to pick up the arm that was left behind by the strange cat creature. That thing had been an animated corpse. Were Cards normally that powerful? Maybe he could study the arm a bit before they left? It would probably be bad luck to take it with him.

Nadja frowned. Zuli was unresponsive and bleeding something awful and though the corpse had acknowledged the Torquehelm card, it had ultimately left it untouched. Did it potentially just have something against Zuli? Even if Zuli was a snotty, unhelpful little leveret she didn't seem to deserve that. Her frown deepened when Heike spoke.
"She should have..." Nadja sad with a sad sighed, staring down at her. "I'll see if I can find a first aid kit..." Though something seemed to have already.. urg, sealed her bleeding stump. Her nose wrinkled in discomfort at all the blood and she quickly turned away from the mess to scan the room.
Boxes everywhere... but where to find what she needed? A shelf near the stairs seemed promising. It held a variety of containers and tins that could potentially hold a first aid kit or something similar.
It was only once she was actually at the shelf that she realized how close she was to the Card. She bit her lip, glanced briefly back at Heike to note that he was indeed distracted (and examining the corpse's lost arm, ew!), and then turned back to the card. "Uhm... Hi... You wouldn't, uhm.. know what's going on here... would you? Or where we are?" She kept her voice low and smiled, hoping he wouldn't be startled. She knew she shouldn't talk to a card but... well, she'd never gotten to before and they were such curious things.
To cover the sound of her attempt to talk to the Card, Nadja busied herself with examining some of the tins on the upper shelf. The top few rows (some out of her reach) appeared to be devoted entirely to tins of tea, some old kettles and assorted accessories. She did spy some more domestic looking items on the lower shelves, but she left them for now. If the Card ran without acknowledging her she could finish examining them and continue on... In the meantime, she shifted tins around to read their labels until one in particular caught her attention.
Dark blue with silvery white accents and beautiful rose patterns and a delicate script in a language she was not entirely familiar with... MidRange or Sorgaire? She wasn't entirely certain, but when opened she was pleasantly assaulted with a delicate but alluring mix of chai and... hmm, rose? It smelt beautiful and probably tasted better. She discretely tucked it into her traveling bag for later.
