For the last several weeks, it's been almost abnormally quiet in Ashwin's shop. More often than not, the doors have been closed and the windows boarded up. Whispers of the shop being closed for good abounded, though if one listened they would still hear the whuffling noises of the creatures kept inside, waiting for an opportunity to once again be brought into the outside world.
Then, one night, everything changed. Those who walked past the shop would be surprised to find the doors open wide, mounds of orange, red, and white pumpkins stacked outside. Lara, the Morganberry Pigeon who served as Ashwin's assistant could clearly be seen just inside the door, bustling around inside with a cheerful vigor that could only mean one thing: There was something big about to happen in the Shoppe.
After a moment the woman stepped out, carrying a large table with her and then setting it down outside the door, picking a few rather lovely pumpkins and then sitting down behind it, her talons neatly folded in front of herself as she beamed at anyone who came close.
"Come closer, now, no need to be scared of anything just yet, we've got a few days 'til that part of things starts up," she said warmly, then cleared her throat and called out to anyone who might be listening. "Hey there, folks! Happy almost Halloween t'ya! Ashwin an' me thought that it'd be a whole lotta fun to throw a little party for y'all in celebration of the season!" In a soft undertone, just loud enough for those closest to hear, she added: "An, well, a Corvie school dropped off a big load of stuff here a while back, it seems like a mighty shame to to waste it all... Anyway, everyone who's interested in enterin' a little contest of sorts, just line up righ' here and I'll getcha all signed up!"
The woman leaned back in her seat, positively beaming.
Like the woman said, we're having a little shindig around the Bandersnatches for Halloween!
What sort of shindig, you wonder! Well, I'm going to tell you. Aren't you lucky. <3
For Halloween, I've arranged some fun grabbags for everyone who's interested! Every bag has at least one Bander in it as well as a Halloween-related item and - well - other fun things! <3 These things will be explained in greater detail come Halloween itself! Along with these items are a few individually-drawn Banders to celebrate the day, so be warned: They're quite strange. >3
But fun, so don't worry there!
You don't need to own a Bander or even to have a single token to your name to enter this contest - in fact, if you're in the latter boat, don't worry because there's the chance at earning tokens through this.
To sign up for a grabbag all of your own, please just reply here. <3 RP replies are not at all required, but are enjoyed and encouraged! Part 1 will be open until Midnight board time on the 31st (remember - this means Friday night, not Saturday!).
Have fun! <3

Oh look at that. There was something going on and it had something to do with Banders! Peaches had never been particular fond of the critters. Considering they were normally kind enough to blow her cover, but maybe she should invest in a contest? It would liven things up, and if she didn't like the critter she could always give it to one of her grandchildren. Or Xiven. That might have been some sort of spectacular joke.
And she did hear something about a Corvie School? Oh, then things were bound to be entertaining! When a Corvie was involved, and there was something to do with Halloween, of course it was bound to be good. So why not?
With a rather cheerful bounce and a squee the woman, clearly a cat all around, moved to the sign up line. With a smile a mile wide she would be more than happy to participate in such an event.

What was with the pumpkins? Oh right, Halloween. The little pine marten always lost track of the days, so holidays usually snuck up on her. She moved closer to the shop now that it had her attention.
Bandersnatches had always interested Aima, but she had never thought to set out and get one. What would she do with it? Let it follow her around? Oh! Maybe she could use it to test---no! Working experiments are Cards was one thing, they could give you consent. Working them on creatures who couldn't talk was quite another. Besides, she could always just test it on herself if it came down to it.
Did they make good pets? She wasn't sure, as she had never had a pet before. Maybe she might as well try it. If not for the Bander itself then for the contest. Contests were always fun. She also thought she heard something about Corvies, and that alone might have made up her mind out of mere curiosity.
It was decided, then. She would participate. Aima went over to the line to sign up.

Mirriam had been planning to be good today, she really had, but then they'd been passing that Bander shop which she'd always been interested in, even though she'd found out that creature that bit her was a Bander, but then it was just protecting its babies, as she'd come to realize later. Besides, the little bat was all about giving second chances! (Well, except to mean rat-birds. Those were another story.) But anyway, she was planning to be good, but then she saw brightly colored fruits of some sort (pumpkins, as her escort to the city informed her) and she just -had- to go over and look, and then there was something about a contest and well...
Puppy dog eyes and clasped wing-claws got the servant to accept, "As long as there's nothing dangerous." So Mirriam happily went to add her name to the list, though she would probably be heard to ask the nice woman accepting names "There's nothing dangerous about this contest, right?" And then grinning happily. Though she then would lean in and whisper, not quite quietly enough, "I actually think dangerous things can be cool sometimes, it's really so the silly grown ups don't worry," and wink one of her large brown eyes.
The servant sighed and slapped her paw to her forehead. Oh that silly child. She'd be mentioning this to Khushrenada later.

"Xolani.. no. Don't put that in ya mouth. It's dirty." Zuberi sighed as she pulled the small gourd from the young child's hands, placing it back into her grocery bag. Even though she was secured in her baby sling, it didn't stop the baby from reaching out and grabbing -whatever- was in reach and attempting to stuff it in her face. At this rate, Zuberi was sure that the girl was going to choke on something.
The Hisstor girl blinked, making soft noises as she tried to get her hands back into the bag. Perhaps having one of those dummy nipples would satiate the child; Zuberi would have to make a note to go and buy one. Deep in thought, she almost passed by the table without knowing it.
Well, Xolani sure noticed it. Look at all the pumpkins! Straining, the child got a good grip on the stem of a pumpkin, dragging it right off the edge...
Zuberi felt the sudden resistance, twirling around just in time to catch the pumpkin before it fell. "Xolani, NO. We do NOT grab things like that!" The woman exclaimed, checking the Hisstor's tiny handpaw to make sure she hadn't injured it. In response, the baby pulled her paw away... and stuck it in her mouth.
The tired mother sighed, turning to apologize to the woman to listen to what this table actually was about. "Oh! Well that sounds like fun! You know.. back in the Midori, we have a huge festival for this holiday. Admittedly, carving pumpkins was something we started doing for the tourists." Taking up the pen, she signed her name on the sheet, along with the information on how she could be contacted.
"Hopefully we'll win something! Isn't dat right, Xolani! you can get a little bander all your own, hmm? Perhaps a shade nicer than Mango, eh?" She continued this chatter with the child, the infant giggling all the while as they walked away,

Walking along the street, Calanthe noticed a small crowd surrounding a particular shop. Looking up the sign hanging above it, this one was called Ashwin's Shoppe. "Hmm...I'm surprised I've never heard of this place before. Might as well see what's drawing the crowd in."
As she got closer, she saw several Banders inside the shop, much like the one Neil owned, Momo. The canine thought back to that first encounter with the little pink ball of energy, and it was a slightly unpleasant one. Getting even closer, she looked through the window, and upon seeing some of the incredibly cute faces, she couldn't help but smile.
Hearing word about a contest come from the Morganberry pigeon's beak made the Yarrow's ears perk up in interest. What a nice way to celebrate Halloween! She soon found herself signing up for the contest. It would be nice to have a small companion always with her to keep her company. Cal could only hope whichever one she got wouldn't eat any of her flower arrangements.

Bright green swirled with bright pink, the odd avian was quiet, with a loud presence. She loomed over Vermin, Rodent, and Feline Cards, neighbouring residences, shutters, flower box, pumpkins, table, and door, craning her neck languidly. The incredible strength in her slim neck and webbed feet contrasted with the tiny wings to draw attention to the slow moving Midori.
Attention that she didn't want. Nonetheless, the sign, denoting the building as Ashwin's, and the Morganberry she'd glimpse up ahead as his assistant, were sufficient to keep her quietly in line, waiting to sign up.
"Ma'na", she gave her name as, her voice slow as molasses, and certainly sufficiently syrupy to qualify, dragging out the syllables to form two words.
(Under 150 words, but honestly, point-free, as I'm simply trying to work myself into Mana headspace rather than Souris.)

Bertram had been walking when something bright and orange had caught his eye. At first he hadn't realized what it was but upon looking at it he saw that it was a pumpkin. Thinking back a little he remembered carving pumpkins in Midori for some sort of tourist thing. Pumpkins he thought to himself wondering what they were for. Oh ya Halloween would be coming soon. It looked like there were some sort of sign up sheet thing, Oooo.. and Banders were involved.
Hmm, maybe he could get himself a Bander he had always wanted one and it looked like this contest was giving them away. Wow sure was busy, he thought to himself hopefully this was not going to be dangerous. Well guess he wad just have to sign up and find out for himself.
He trotted up to where the people were hording up and took his place in line among the people.

Millie had been watching Ashwin's with growing despondence. Every day the same old closed sign and then, at long last, the door was open and everything was bright and festive with autumn colors. The little girl couldn't imagine anything more wonderful in all the world, and even little Ana was whuffling with pleasure as Millie skipped up to join the growing line.
Finally! She could get her very own Bander and start working to make her mother proud.
"We'll be the best bander breeders in the world, Ana!" Especially with specially designed Corvie-mutated Banders, bwahahaha! Okay, that was the child speaking, but Millie would be able to control whatever came her way so long as she had Ana with her and she always had Ana with her.
The ghostly bander curled up against Millie's leg, watching the others forming into the line as Millie waved enthusiastically at the Morganberry Pigeon. This was going to be great!

Victor smiled as the decorations caught his eye. He'd been in the shop a few times to window shop and didn't take Ashwin for the decorating type. He ambled over to investigate. A contest, huh? Well, didn't hurt to try. Didn't seem to cost anything, so what was there to lose?
