Ichigo gave the creature a light kiss on the head before whispering a command to her. Looking a bit reluctant the Mome hopped out of Ichigo's hand and scurried off to the shadow.
The mouse was grateful that the woman at least had a sword, however strange it was that she could summon it. Suits only knew what they would be running into. He hobbled forward, peering down the alley that led to the back of the bar. He turned back to Thyme. "I don't think running back into the bar is going to us much good if something is out here. The people seem to be blissfully unaware of anything." Looking down the alley he called, "Is anyone back there?"
Hopefully no one would answer. And hopefully it wasn't a stupid thing to do now that he had gone and done it. His paw had wandered back to his sword as he waited.

Things were just not happening as they were supposed to. A trip to the Capital, with Grandma Heilyn and Makenna. Adrianne was young, very innocent, and she was easily appeased with shiny bobbles and fun games. She understood some things better than others, like that the smell in the air made her tummy rumble and her mouth wet, and she wanted whatever that smell was. She was also perfectly content to wait with Makenna. Makenna was so pretty, after all, and Daddy loved her. That meant that Adrianne loved her, too. The little Finch-mix had happily sat next to her human Aunt, leaning up against her and purring softly to keep them both from feeling too lonely while they waited for Grandma to come back with their treat. But the minutes ticked by, and there was no sign of the woman. The Torque started to feel nervous, at first. Then she was scared. When Makenna started to cry, it only got worse. The girl started to whimper herself, and squeezed her eyes shut. She would not cry. She could not. Daddy would not like it if she did. " C'mon, Kenna," she said, voice little more than a whisper. " We hafta find Grandma. There are lots of people there." She pointed to the bar, willing herself to be strong next to the girl she saw as a big sister.

"It's always a good back-up plan, but I'd rather not go back if we didn't have to," Thyme agreed with a small shrug, watching the summon's scurrying form until it disappeared into the shadows. She realized belatedly that she had repeated herself and wished yet again that her senses weren't fuzzed by drink.
She also remained more interested in the small shapes she saw far down the streets than in any potential and speculative dangers that might be lurking in the alleyway. The more she squinted, however, the smaller the shapes looked. Was one of them human? That was a strange bipedal form, otherwise, but she wasn't sure. A tiny human if so. Young? Female? Or just some sort of strange rodent or mustelid? The evening obscured a great deal.
They weren't running or gesturing and didn't seem particularly threatening in any way. She found herself relaxing a small amount and taking a few steps forward. "Allo!" she called out, raising the arm that wasn't currently holding a weapon. "You there! Could you come over here for just a moment?"

C'mon, Kenna. We hafta find Grandma. There are lots of people there.
The mask was getting moist inside from crying. Peel the mask off to wipe the wet away so it will not chaff later. Only for a little bit. The monsters always came when the mask was removed for too long.
The cinnamon and sugar scent in the air was gone. When did it change? Sometime when the tears started flowing, distracting her. Some odd spice was now in its place. It wasn't entirely unpleasant, but in this moment there was too much strangeness ad it was unwelcome.
Sniff. Yes. Let's look over there. Maybe they can help... That one is calling to us. She looks nice. And look, Adrianne, a high rank!
Hello to you, Miss. Have you seen my Mother?

The change from crying to taking action was a welcome behavioral modification in the elder girl, and the pitter-pattering of Adrianne's little heart began to slow. Abruptly she found that she was better able to swallow back her own tears. She followed after the young human, turning her attention to the others. They would help. There was no need to fret or worry.
Much higher ranking, and somehow familiar. Adrianne's ears panned backwards and forwards while she looked over the King, trying to decide what was so familiar about the woman. It fell just out of her reach, however, so she focused her attention back on the matter at hand: Grandma disappearing, leaving the pair of them alone and lost in a city that was far too big for two little girls. She raised her head, putting on the bravest face she could manage.
"She was getting us churros," The girl added in, hoping that any information would help. "She is a Queen of Hearts."

Ichigo's ears twitched as he heard the voices of children. What in the name of the suits were children doing out on a night like this? He repressed his exasperation by focusing on the task at hand. His Mome scurried back to him rather quickly to linger at his side looking rather panicked.
So there was someone else out there judging from Orihime's reaction. He kept his sword sheathed, he wasn't going to waste the magic when it could honestly be someone harmless. "I'm going to take a look behind the pub," the mouse said with a polite tilt of his head to the wolf. "Please take care." He motioned for Orihime to stay with the King before making his way behind the pub.
He wasn't particularly the most stealthy creatures when he had to move fast, but at least he could take his time on three legs to avoid alerting whatever was behind there. Carefully he peered around the edge of the building, preparing for anything.
Except for a brightly colored poodle. He ducked back aground the building to collect himself.

Definitely, definitely children. Thyme wanted to grimace at the thought of them wandering the streets of the Capital alone, especially with a feeling like this permeating the air, but she kept her expression pleasant and her ears pricked forward.
Torquehelm and... with that mask, the young human looked like she came from the Bog. When Hearts were brought into the mix, that only confirmed it. The realm tended to center around that suit, as far as she could tell.
"Be safe," she muttered for Ichigo, not particularly liking the thought of him wandering into the alley alone. Yet, she knew he was very capable. And there wasn't likely to be something horrible lurking back there. Not if it hadn't eaten his Mome. Great thoughts...
"But no, girls, I'm sorry. I don't think I've seen your mother. I would have noticed a Queen in there, and I haven't been on the streets for a little while. Where was the last place you saw her? Could you tell me her name? I'm Thyme, a King of Clubs under His Majesty Aderlass. It really isn't safe for her to have left you like this... how long has she been missing?"

((The Poodle seems to have passed out and for some reasons...he's begun floating about two feet off the ground! Well...it might be a good idea to take him with you, seeing as leaving him there might kill him. That just wouldn't be Ichigo's style, would it?
Regardless, Ichigo's Mome snuffled around and found it could bop the Poodle around with its nose to no ill effect...and the entire area seems to be getting a little darker... And colder. The sounds of someone shuffling down the alley reaches their ears...
Mephit seems to have come to her final encounter...and she's feeling bloated, angry and steely...her eyes have turned red, the blood vessels breaking and filling her vision with floating red... Careful everyone.))

The poodle was floating. He had seen plenty of strange things, but someone being completely oblivious to the world around them and floating off the ground wasn't one of them. His toes curled as he sent his Mome forward. She gave a little poke, to find that whoever this was they were safe to touch and dead to the world.
They were still breathing. He let out a rather unhappy sigh as he searched for a rope. That would be the easy way to carry the man. He found something that worked well enough and tied it to the poodles leg carefully. The chill made him shiver slightly as he wrapped the rope around his ice covered arm and started the march back to Thyme.
Orihime took the lead again, greeting Thyme when they popped out of the alley way from behind the bar. "It would seem that we have a bit of a problem and should visit a doctor or mage or some such something," he said before emerging from the shadows with the floating poodle.
He untied the rope before giving the new comers a small and polite greeting and brief introduction. What were children doing here? Suits what was going on? He glanced towards the pub, his ears panning around for any strange sounds.

As the temperature began to plummet, Thyme shivered in her fur and glanced around. Evening. A dark evening, coming on more quickly than she would have expected. The cold made her ache in ways that it shouldn't at her age, joints complaining at the chilly dampness in the air. She glanced back towards the alley Ichigo had entered and felt more than a few misgivings.
Really... who knew what could be out on a night that felt like this? With so much strangeness all around? It reminded her more than a little bit of home - her first home - and that more than anything convinced her that she should have had far less to drink.
She held out her hand for the Mome as he reemerged from the alley, a strong sense of relief tugging at her to see the creature unharmed and not particularly alarmed. His master's words belied his demeanor and the fur all along her back rose in a sudden hackle. "What do you mean?" she barked, eyes widening when he stepped out unharmed... and toting along what looked to be a corpse. Several moments later and she noted breathing, which prompted her to release the breath she hadn't realized she was holding.
"Oh... oh hell. What causes floating unconscious paralysis? Besides magic... damn. Sorry, girls." She didn't know how old they were. Chances were they'd heard worse. Her priorities were slightly less clear than normal.
Except that she was still alert enough to note... to note something. Some noise. One canine ear twitched and then the other, causing her head to slowly rotate back towards the alleyway. Her frown deepened to nearly a grimace. "Maybe we should go back inside and call someone from there..."
