The sun shone overhead, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Lariel groaned and kept her head down. She blamed the horrid and unyielding sunlight for the headache she felt brewing. The piece of her homeland clank along as she paced forward, her paws dragging at the pavement beneath them. The Bobcat cursed her newest client, who had insisted on meeting in the Capital and away from Lariel's more seedy meeting establishments. She couldn't completely blame the Card though; the places Lariel preferred to do business didn't instill a sense of security for someone who had never dealt with the Ranger before. The meeting had gone swiftly, thank the Shadows, and neither party had lingered any longer than necessary. Lariel had to assure her client many times she maintained the most strict sense of secrecy before the Card would even consider telling her what their business had to do with her. She wasn't looking forward to the many assurances it would take before that client ever became comfortable with her. On the plus side, they were very wealthy and didn't mind making their payments upfront. Lariel pondered all of this as she padded down the streets of the Capital, her eyes cast down to the ground below her. Shadows and Darkness! Could it be any hotter this day? Give the bobcat an overcast day with a chilled wind any day, and you would have one happy kitty.

Day, night ... it didn't really matter to him it was all nice. And the heat? He didn't really mind it, after all he had a fire burning on his back constantly and had gotten rather used to it, he even kept his siblings warm during the winter time. And today he was aiming to enjoy himself! The puppy had quite a lot of pent up energy, he'd stayed home to help out around the house the last few days and, well.... that certainly wasn't enough for a hyperactive little thing like himself. He was presently darting down the sidewalk, wings tucked up against his body as tightly as he could manage, and was weaving through people. Despite his best efforts he still managed to burn a person here and there and heard their exclamations of pain that were usually followed by cursing ... but he didn't really care, not on a day like today! However he became aware of the fact that a rather angry looking feline was directly in his path and didn't appear to be moving out of it anytime soon and he attempted to step on the breaks, nearly throwing himself end over end to do so. Instead he landed rather sharply on his rump and gave a little yelp caused mostly by surprise... that did kind of hurt though ...

Lariel had been grumbling to herself and watching the pavement as she moved, and so had no idea there was a ball of hyperactive fire coming her way. It was already so bright outside that the flames coming towards here were lost in the natural sunlight, and gave the Bobcat no warning of the maelstrom coming towards her until it was almost too late.
She heard the pup before she actually saw him, but when she lifted her head and eyes up to see what had just happened, her nose was only about three to five inches away from his. Darkness, but this kid was hot! Lariel backed up a few steps and stared at the dog in confusion, and only then realized he had wings...of fire.
"What the hell..," Lariel muttered. She took a deep, calming breath but couldn't pry her teeth apart. "What's lit a fire under your ass?" It was only after asking the question Lariel groaned as she realized she'd just made a pun. The day was certainly looking down.

He flopped his red lined ears to the side and gave the feline a somewhat sheepish, somewhat apologetic little grin as he thumped his tail softly against the ground and tried to win the angry looking bobcat over with a cute little puppy look. He had almost run her over and, well ... he might even be a little angry at someone then, well ... if he didn't just let it slide with an apology of course. He just ... didn't want anyone to end up taking their anger out on him, he didn't really like pain.
Orange eyes watched as her own gaze shifted briefly to his wings, everyone always looked at them and most were either confused or delighted. He wasn't quite certain what her reaction was so he simply wagged his tail a bit harder, trying to look as adorable as possible. My ... didn't she have an awful dirty mouth? momma certainly never talked like that ...
I'm sorry, really I am ... but I didn't run into you! I almost did.. .but I stopped. I just ... .really wanted to run. You see I've been stuck at home for a few days and .. .well... I ... he he.
Oh, he was babbling again, wasn't he? Well he simply shut his muzzle now, wagged his tail and concentrated on being cute.

Lariel thought at first the pup was mimicking her grimace, but then realized the fool was actually grinning at her. Not only was his coat bright, apparently so was his disposition. Great, this is just what she needed today. She could almost see the gears grinding in his head as he thought about the situation and wagged that damned tail behind him. Why did younglings have to be so annoying? If he wagged that tail any harder, he was going to shake the damn thing off.
Lariel stared at him open-mouthed as he prattled on, trying to make sense of the rush of words streaming from his mouth. Aside from the tirade of jumbled sentences, he actually giggled! She wondered if she'd ever been so ...chipper. Lariel doubted it. She had never used the word 'cute', and knew she wasn't about to start now.
"Slow down the chatter, firestarter. How do you ever expect to carry on a true conversation if the people you're trying to talk to can't understand you?" she asked, rolling her eyes and sighing.
The bobcat looked down the road behind her, then past the pup, and back to him. "Which way were you planning on going?"

One of those little triangular ears flicked forward as she studied him, wondering what she was thinking whilst she was. Her colors kind of reminded him of his momma's in a way, at least the dark blue running down her spine. So this was one of the realms momma was mixed with huh? It was pretty! He'd never seen a full blooded Sorgaire before but he was impressed, so bad he was a mix of that instead of lowland. Oh well, his colors worked rather nicely anyhow ... and had all his pretty swirls as well. ooh she was speaking! After her first word that other ear of his perked forward as well.
Why did she seem so annoyed? He hadn't done anything wrong! He tilted his head to the side and continued to watch her.
Well ... I was going that way but I really have no set destination ... you?

Taking a deep breath, Lariel calmed herself. She was being extremely rude without any provocation, besides an overly happy Card. That in itself wasn't a crime, and neither was catching her on a bad day. She'd have to try to reign in her bitterness and sarcasm. When she allowed herself to actually look at the pup, she noticed his Lowlander coloring. Not having any grudge against them Lariel could appreciate how it added to his overall look. Actually, he'd probably be pretty handsome once he grew up....and settled down.
The Ranger couldn't help a small eye roll when she watched both ears perk up. "Trying to get out of the Capital, and the Sun..," she replied, moving to walk past the flaming canine. Her tone had been more gentle, but that hadn't been an invitation for more talk, which she hoped to make clear by her exit.
Her piece of homeland clanked behind her as she began her walk again.

Now why on earth would she want out of the capitol and out of the sun on a fantastic day like today? And .. .hey! She was was just... walking away. That was so terribly strange, no one ever did that before. He paused for a moment and peered over his shoulder as she moved away, just now noticing the stone attached to her ankle. That was ... kinda pretty actually. His tail started to wag once again and he turned, prancing up to walk beside her with a bright smile on his muzzle.
What's with the rock attached to your ankle?
He spoke as if she'd never actually brushed him off and in his mind she hadn't, not really. Walking off without saying goodbye was just an invitation for you to follow, right? That seemed.. .terribly logical to him and besides, he was curious about that stone now and he really wanted an answer ...

Lariel could feel the pup before she heard him, and allowed herself to groan out loud. Of course he'd want to follow her around on the day she just wished to be left alone. And was it her imagination, or was he actually getting hotter? Maybe he was just closer to her than before, but either way Lariel could feel the tingling sensation indicative of some possible panting to come if the heat didn't let up. She could see his tail a-wagging behind him and took an educated guess that no matter what she said the Pup would continue on by her side.
Lariel halted in her steps at his question. "A...rock?! It's not a rock!" she said loudly, unable to help the sense that she'd been offended, as well as her homeland. After gathering herself, Lariel grimaced and reigned in her tone. Though as it stood, she had to set the kid right.
"It isn't a rock. Those of us from Sorgaire Range usually take a piece of our homeland, where we were born, with us throughout our lifetime. It's an honor to wear it and it reminds us of where we come from and all we've accomplished, or haven't accomplished," Lariel explained, pausing to see if he was understanding at all. "It's not just a rock, but a piece of our hearts really. Do you understand the difference?"
Lariel had continued to walk down the road, noticing as she did that other Cards tended to give the two of them a wide birth thanks to the very real flames coming out of the little one.

When she raised her tone at him he stopped momentarily, ears flipping back to rest against his skull and his hackles rose just a bit as well, he really hadn't expected that. He did manage not to make a complete fool out of himself and bit back the little whimper that begged to escape his maw ... she hadn't quite scared him that much. His tail did drop down into a more submissive position though, just for good measure.
He ears slowly came forward again when she started explaining about the significance this 'rock' of hers had. Well ... it may have been a piece of her regions heart and all ... but it was still a rock. A pretty rock but ... a rock none the less. Then something clicked in his mind and he tilted his head to the side a bit, his tone just as inquisitive as his expression.
If it's so important to you ... why do you drag it on the ground?
