Sabe stood there at his desk. The large stacks of papers were laid about his desk in a haphazard way as if they would fall at any moment. The room was dimly lit with but a few candles above his head on a shelf and on his desk. At this hour nothing moved not even any of the other kings and queens that resided here. Only the guard moved about patrolling the floors and halls. Though he was able to keep them away from his hall that much, stating the fact that he was well enough capable of taking care of himself and that his own personal guard would take care of anything non-magical that came his way. He gave a heavy sigh as he flipped up another folder filled with papers. They were nothing but expences of the castle. It was rather odd that he would take care of this, but as a business man he knew a thing or two about money and decided that he would take care of it. He was good enough to raise his own small one man business to a good twenty or so employees and had them paid every week. He rubbed his hand over his head long feelers behind his head and looked out across the office to where the door to his own room was. He wondered how the leveret was doing, he had been out for quite some time, he just hoped that she hadn't needed anything at the moment. So he moved to get up, slowly at first as he felt the stillness of his bones pop with sitting too long. It was a great feeling til a bone in his neck popped and made him grunt with a bit of pain as he gripped the back of his neck. He gave another sigh and started his way across the room to his other room.

A request from family was a request Mili was unable to ignore, no matter how terrifying a request it was. It had taken a fair amount of finagling to work out, but she had managed it in the end. One maid had been ill that day, and someone had to take her place. A nobody from the Capital was as good a choice as anyone, provided she could get the job done until the regular was able to return. The canine had a lot of experience in household tasks, and had managed to talk her way into the palace. The only question now was if she had managed to do it in time. She walked slowly down the hall, pushing the heavy cart loaded with towels in front of her, nervously peeking around herself as she made her way. She didn't want to be seen by anyone, didn't want to be recognized if there was any way she could help it. It was an easy enough task to find the Queen's room, and once she was there, she lightly scratched at the side of the cart. " We're here," she whispered in a very quiet voice, taking a few towels off the top and setting them beside Sabe's door. She would help Aleah climb from his hiding place, give him a quiet wish for luck, and then she would be gone as quickly and quietly as she had originally come.

She was hungry. This was something that Mythiril felt, that aching sort of emptiness as she lay there in the dark room, feeling tired but utterly unable to sleep. She'd already done all her tasks for the day, but her Jack was still awake, and he might need her, so she feared to leave his room to sneak away. But the worst part wasn't the hunger. She had dealt with it before. The worst part was that she was alone. Help me, whispered a voice, seeming to come from directly behind her, but Myth didn't dare turn around. Please, it begged again, and something cold touched the back of the Rabbit's neck. She shivered, and stubbornly closed her eyes. " Go away," she whispered back, the quietest of sounds, barely audible to herself. There was a stirring of the air around her, as if the ghostly creature was nearby. Or perhaps it was only her imagination playing tricks on her. Myth could never be quite sure, but it didn't matter. It made her tremble all the same. Why won't you help me? The voice sounded angrier now, and Myth kept those bright blue eyes shut so tightly she could feel a headache starting. But she refused to bleed for the ghost. She had, once or twice, back when it first began speaking to her in waking hours. Why? demanded the voice, again, and Myth trembled. In the utter stillness of the room, the sound of claws clinking on the floor made her startle, and stand up and at attention before she'd even consciously realized that Sabe was coming back towards the room. Despite her exhaustion and her hunger, Myth managed to sit primly on the floor, looking expectantly toward the door with her head just a bit lowered. The ghostly presence vanished, and she felt suddenly lighter, as the footsteps came closer. ((UHHH so I hope I'm right in assuming this is okay to post here? >_>))

This was not the most dignified manner of travel by any means, his tall form hunched within a pile of towels. Even freshly laundered, they smelled of cards. It was a most noxious perfume to his senses, but it had to be done. Not for him, but for the good of the anonymity of Rabbit kind. No Card could own a leveret, or any other rabbit for that matter. Not if they wanted to survive.
The cart came to a halt, and he forced himself not to make a noise of disapproval as it shifted him oddly. His ears sprang up once the towels were removed from his head, spurred by the quiet signal for him to come from his hiding place. "Not my preferred mode of travel… but thank you. I hope that this will not take long." He carefully extricated himself, a hand going to his vest pocket to make sure the small parcel was still with him.
The Jack was somewhat surprised the door was even unlocked. Had it been locked of course, he would have easily been able to dispatch of the metal bar within with a swipe of his claws assuming it wasn't magically altered. He pushed down on the handle and carefully stepped in. There was shuffling in one room, the sound of a large card moving about. The smell of bird was strong in the air.. but so was Leveret. It further proved that a levered was in the area. Half considering going to the Card directly, he instead slipped toward the strongest scent of the leveret. It looked to be a bedroom, with a small bundle in the corner that looked rather befitting of a leveret's bed. Beside the bed of a card, like some pet dog. How… perverse.
His ears perked up when he realized the leveret was standing in front of him, standing neatly in place if not looking surprised. What surprised him more though, would be that he recognized her face. "Well…. I hadn't expected to see your face again…" He said, barely above a whisper. The sound of steps coming from the other room distracted him. The Card was coming. Aleah forced himself not to become anxious in this situation. A single claw came up to his lips in a signal for silence from the leveret before he sauntered over to a nearby chair and sat down to patiently wait for the Card to enter.
It had occurred to Aleah that he could easily grab up the leveret and try to escape, but he knew that there were matters that had to be taken care of, and running off into the night would do little good in the long run.

A tall figure suddenly shadowed the doorway, which Myth had expected. But...it wasn't Sabe. It wasn't even...blue eyes widened impossibly as the Leveret stared up at a creature with tall ears and a face shaped much like hers. She hadn't seen another Rabbit in over a year, and she just...froze, unsure of what to do. Am I in trouble? flashed through her mind as it began working feverishly, but she didn't dare to say anything, She couldn't.
And then...then the Jack (for it was clearly a Jack, a proper one, standing so tall and proud like that) said something she hadn't expected. Mythiril's nose twitched, and she took in the sight and the scent of this Jack. She was sure she'd never...the sound of metal scraping against itself caught her attention, and she glanced down to see wicked claws. She'd seen claws like that, once, on a Rabbit, long ago.
She let out the smallest of gasps of recognition. "Aleah?" she whispered, so quietly, but he was already moving to get slightly out of sight for when Sabe came to the door, preventing Myth from going on. Right. Sabe. He was still coming, and she still had to pay attention. But why was Aleah here? Why was a Jack in the Palace of Clubs?
"Do you need anything, sir?" she asked Sabe as he came to the door.

He gave a shake of his feathers as he moved toward the doorway and he saw the five of clubs standing there. It just seemed like the maid had been changed once again. He gave him a odd look and realized he was of lowlander heritage and he gave him a curt nod and picked up a few towels from the trolly. He gave him a silver coin and proceeded to step through the door. He would have to remember to talk to the head woman and find out more about this club.
He looked at the door and realized that it was open and that gave him the chills as he quickly reached in the door way for his cane, it was a good thing that it was still there. His eyes darted across the room and he spotted Myth standing there patiently and he quickly dismissed what she said when he saw a tall figure sitting in his chair waiting for him. He rather liked that chair and someone else was sitting in it. Sabe knew that the only way out was now through him so he reached behind him and shut the door and locked it with a simple key that he slipped into his satchel.
"Well good evening Jack." he said as he stood there looking at the man, his features masked properly showing nothing. Myth had done well in explaining some of what she knew about the Jack's court. "A letter forewarning me of your arrival would have been more appropriate than to show up here in the middle of the night." he moved over to the other wall where a small elevator was and called down for tea and something to eat. With that said he moved over to another chair about ten or so feet from the Jack before him.
He remembered then that Myth was standing by waiting for some sort of order so that she could be useful, so he turned to her and spoke with nice and even tones even though he was rather tired, "Myth would you mind getting the tray that comes up so that we don't leave our guest here without refreshments." he said as he turned his attention back to the jack before him.
"So I think I know why you have come." he said as he placed both hands on the cane before him.

That look of shock and recognition never got old. The fact that the leveret had remembered his name was too delightful to quantify. As he sat there waiting for this Card to show itself, he'd wondered if this leveret perhaps lay awake at night, remembering his face when she thought of the Rabbits she never got to see any more. It made him very much feel the part of the hero at that moment, his neutral expression turning to her just slightly and giving a garish wink her way as the doorhandle began to move, the door swinging open to reveal the Kahmden avian.
Aside from his heart very suddenly beating faster, he would not let his anxiety show as the card reached to lock the door. That all the more solidified it in his mind that he'd have to go through with his plan. He leaned back in the seat, ears perking forward and unhidden. After all, there was no hiding what he was now; Sabe had already shown that he knew more about Rabbits than Aleah liked.
"Oh come now… we both know that this is much more exciting than being warned by a letter. Having rabbits just show up in your room? Such fun." He chuckled lightly, eyes drifting away from Sabe and toward the leveret. "I'd seen how she greeted you at the door. What a delightful trait for a leveret. And if you truly do know why I have come…"
Aleah leaned forward in his seat, icy blue gaze turning back to Sabe. "Then I know that I'll have to conduct this business most properly and propose a trade."
((Oh also, Nafa, Mili is a Hisstor mix, not a Lowland mix XD))

Mythiril wasn't really bothered when she was ignored by Sabe in favor of the strange Rabbit in the room. The Jack...who winked at her? She felt a slight blush creeping up onto her cheeks. So he wasn't angry, after all? That she'd subjected herself to a Card? It had seemed...nice, at first, if a bit scary. But now...now she'd give almost anything to be free of him.
Could Aleah be here to...? But no. She didn't dare even let herself think it. She bowed low to Sabe at the order. "As you wish, sir," she intoned, and scurried to pull on her cloak. She carefully made her way out into the main room, because she didn't want some poor servant of the castle to see a Rabbit here and die of fright on the spot. Cards could be so silly about those things, and she knew enough to keep her true identity hidden.
Her ears remained perked, though, to hear what her betters might be saying through the partially closed door to the bedroom. A...trade? Her heart beat a bit faster, despite herself. Maybe...maybe she really would get out of here tonight!

Sabe knew that this day would come, the day that a real Jack would show up and propose a trade of some sort to get back what was rightfully theirs. He wouldn't bring up on how he came about the leveret because that was none of the Jacks business. He hadn't forced the young one to come with him, but in turn was curious and rather intrigued that he could learn about something that wasn't supposed to exist in the first place. He had felt like he had saved the poor thing in the capital. He knew what dangers it would impose on the public if other lower cards had learned of the existence of Rabbits. Suits, it would drive the realms into chaos. People would hunt for rabbits and give them no reprieve.
He cleared his throat and gave the leveret a nod of approval as she left through the doorway. He then turned back his attention to the Jack before him. He gave him a brief smile "Your quite right, having rabbits appear out of no where without notice is quite the entertainment." he said as he leaned back into the chair setting his magical cane beside it so that the jack didn't feel uncomfortable. He couldn't help but put a smile on his face with that statement.
"If you don't already know, my name is Sabe a titled Queen of the court of Clubs. Though I find it hard to do business if I don't know the name of the person that I am dealing with." he said as he toyed with his cane beside him, wondering if he had to use it. "Myth has been an exceptional Leveret to me and keeping up with chores, so I value her wealth to me quite highly, though I know she needs to return to a proper warren where she truly belongs, but if I don't know who she is going to then I figure that I automatically don't trust you." he said as he wondered what the response would be. He was trying to keep this civil and wanted to proceed with the dealings, but he wanted to make sure that this strong Jack would know that he meant to keep what was his and protect the leveret with his life if it came down to it.

The card was surely being quite demanding, considering he had been dabbling in things he aught not.. but Aleah always kept that static smile on his face. After a moment's pause, he responded. "As you may have noticed, the majority of our kind prefers a certain level of anonymity. But, fair enough. You may call me Aleah."
He shifted in his seat, gaze going to the way the leveret had exited to go get their refreshments. "But before we take to such trying manners, some refreshment would be lovely. Another fun fact about Jacks, Sabe, is that we surely don't like to conduct business with a dry throat." The level of calm was a carefully cultivated one, a calm that all Jacks had to learn if they wanted to survive. Surely this Card would not be able to tell, but in reality Aleah wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible. Still, the code of a Jack was a strong thing to break; he would maintain his calm and almost aloof nature until the deed was done.
