Yuri detached from Makenna to begin his own little search. It looked as though their sister would be handling their fluffy, snowy newcomer. The chief things to be seen seemed to be ways out, though "out" was likely a relative term. These were the catacombs, he thought. Perhaps some corner of a very tricky labyrinth. The monster in the middle of it might even be coming for them, making sounds something like the tearing of parchment, from the tunnel Tegan pushed them away from. Perhaps Fluffy was its emissary, sent to size up the worthiness of the sacrifice. Bad thoughts.
"Makenna," he said, suddenly. He tried to be quiet about it but his voice still echoed faintly along the walls. "Do you see those?"
Barely illuminated by the torchlight but more distinct as he drew near them, misshapen mounds of something. They smelled like something he had never quite smelled before. How very strange.

Mrs. White's ears flicked as she watched the body language of the Canine, taking in her heritage and demeanor. And the fact that she, too, seemed to be missing an eye. The Tulgey had a sweet grin on her face, very little of her inner rage actually showing in her expression, though the fact that her eye was swollen shut and she was probably bedraggled and wet rather countered the image she wished to project to them. She was about to say something, since it seemed the Canine had no interest in doing so first, when there was a sound. A raspy, dangerous sort of sound. And Mrs. White prided herself on knowing quite a bit about danger. Her paw reached automatically for the hidden space she kept her knife, and part of her was relieved at finding cool metal meet her touch.
She turned back around, then, aware that she wasn't alone. For now, alliance might have to be made with these other Cards. If they're useless, I can always kill them later. Mrs. White conjured up a suitably nervous smile. "Oh, hello! I'm afraid I don't know where we are or how we got here," she said, having taken note of the clipped demeanor of the other woman. "I'm Nellwyn White, but we'd better save the rest of it for later. I don't like that sound." Which was partially a lie. The darker part of her was straining for a fight after being drugged and left to die in some godforsaken tunnel.

The dark lumps Yuri approached began to look more and more like collapsed Cards the closer he got to them. They smelled...bad, quite bad. Horrible even, as though they- A hand is poking out from under a cloak. Once close enough, Yuri can see that it is...decomposed is probably the best work for it; seeing as the bones and withered old veins are poking through the skin. Urgh. Looks like these two have been here for a while. The one on the right looks like a Highlander...maybe some kind of Canine with his Animal form, the other, a Bipedal Bird of some sort, maybe an Avington mix. Both are wearing heavy cloaks and their belts seem to have...little bags attached to them? How strange.

"Um actually," he said. "Tegan...we have more friends..."
Of all the things he could have come across, he supposed he should have counted dead bodies among them. But somehow it had remained on the periphery of his thoughts. He looked at the corpses, suddenly transfixed. They were in the deep throes of decomposition--perhaps straddling the line between active and advanced decay. They did not appear to be surrounded by their liquified innards but they were not completely dry either. Vines poked from the remains of their flesh--a Highlander and an Avington, maybe, judging by the fur.
A quivering sort of dread curled in this stomach, but he could not pull away from them. Maybe these people had been tossed down here too, hadn't found any way out, and curled up to die. That could not happen to them. It was not supposed to.
He hesitantly reached forward and pulled back their cloaks. He wished he had gloves or something, for sanitation, a better mask than his Bog filter. But he had none of those things. The corpses, in addition to their cloaks, also wore belts, equipped with bags. He did not want to dishonor the dead, but...it was not uncommon for corpses to be looted...and if they had anything handy, it would do the living a much better service than the dead. Maybe it was even a clue!
He tugged the little bags free and popped one open.

Makenna nodded at Yuri and followed him. She was feeling a little more adventurous now that she wasn't feeling as sick. Still a rather queasy, but marginally better. The writhing things terrified and entranced her. How... oh look, dead bodies.
"And I am Tegan," she stated in a flat tone, "Well then, Nellwyn, it seems we're both in agreement. Let's get moving, then."
Morbid curiosity kept Makenna staring. It was horrible and fascinating at the same time. then the thought that that could be them hit her. Then they became a fact. When Yuri took the bags, she pulled for the other one and opened it to look inside, child-like curiosity over taking her.
Tegan cursed and rush to the kids. Of course they would stop looking for something useful to poke as some damned cadavers. "Get away from those! Dammit, kids." Preventing her from fighting a potential monster and poking at things they shouldn't. It really sucked to be forced to drag children along on stuff like this.
"Come on. It's time to go."

Mrs. White nodded pleasantly, inwardly being relieved that the introductions were finally over with and they could get on to more interesting things. Like finding and killing whoever was responsible for them being stuck here. She went to follow Tegan as she moved toward the children and some odd lumps on the stone floor, getting off track a couple of times due to the difficulty telling distances with only one working eye. Resisting the urge to rub at her swollen one, the Feline finally made it within a range where she could -smell- the bodies. She reeled back a bit. Those were not freshly dead. She knew what freshly dead smelled like, and it was nowhere near this potent.
"It's all right, Tegan, they were just looking for anything useful," she soothed, while her pink eyes darted over to scan the bodies for anything the kids might have missed. It couldn't be a coincidence that they were put down here with dead bodies. Not at all. Someone had done that deliberately to scare them. "Let's just calmly leave this area before anything nasty catches up with us." My, my, but one of these children was a freak. Wings and claws in a human form? If she'd had such a child, she would have put it down, Heart or no.

Oh, dear... Those packets contained an odd amount of pink and white, odorless powder. Makenna's mask covered the entirety of her face, thankfully, and the small puff bounced harmlessly off of her mask...Yuri however... Instantly after a small amount of pink powder puffed out of the bag towards his face, he began to feel slightly dizzy.
Yuri's Curse: Once a week, he will feel painfully compelled to consume something pink, whatever that may be...and regardless of whether or not it's edible. He will also have a very, very strong attraction to those with pink fur. And that could be dangerous in and of itself...
The bodies otherwise appear to have nothing, save their rotted cloaks; a few coppers (5 unassigned p per dealer), and a thin flask of some kind of drink. Might be better to pick a direction and head out.

The result of his investigation was somewhat disappointing: he was left with the ire of his sister (which he had been so strenuously trying to avoid!) and a face full of pale, scentless powder. It billowed out of the bag and wafted gently up. It was only a couple seconds of breathing later that his head began to spin a little. He backed up from the corpses quickly, skittering backward on all his legs and stumbling onto his rump a dozen paces later.
You have made a bad choice, he thought, blearily; you need to go to your corner and think about what you've done. But the corners here were not good corners. He was glad the lady with the pretty eyes was sticking up for them and his apparently terrible decision-making skills; maybe Tegan wouldn't yell at him too much if there were company present? He rubbed at his eyes and tried to make himself see straight. Fortunately, the dizziness seemed only temporary. He re-oriented himself without too much fuss.
Now it was probably some sort of waiting game to find out what terrible disease he had managed to spring upon himself. He had a feeling it was something awful.
"Yes," he said. "Yes, we should go away now."

Mrs. White stepped gingerly over to the bodies, seeing something glinting in the dim light, but before she got too close there was an explosion of powder that went right into the kids' faces and sent one of them coughing up a storm. She frowned, irritated inwardly at the fact she probably had to see if the little brat was okay. But this was why she was glad -she- didn't have to be the one to investigate those bodies first. After all, one of her eyes was already swollen shut, so she didn't fancy getting powder in the still-working one. Putting out a paw, she snatched the coppers that were gleaming there on the ground and secreting them away. With her lousy paycheck, she could really use something like that.
"Are you all right, dear?" she asked solicitously of the odd little Bog child. At least she assumed he was Bog, given that he had a mask and...and six legs. Ugh, how bizarre. Still, she would keep her face from showing any disgust, instead looking perfectly sympathetic. When he gave an answer she'd carefully approach the bodies, as if afraid to get her paws dirty, and avoiding any remnants of the powder. There appeared to a flask of some sort, and she picked it up between two claws and sniffed it lightly. Her ears twitched again and she knew they didn't have time to waste standing around here anymore, though.

Makenna let out a little squeak of surprise as the puff of dust flew out of the bag and hit her mask harmlessly. With eyes shut tightly, she dropped the bag as she swatted at the air in front of her face blindly. Ewewew!
Tegan on the other hand, looked slightly horrified.
"Y-Yuri! Are you alright?" She was by his side in an instant. Oh FUCK what was that stuff? This person wasn't some kind of weirdo that ran around with poison some some such nonsense, was he? Oh, suits, that powder could have been ANYTHING. She nudged him along when he relied. She needed to get him to a doctor, just to be safe.
"Come on, then. Makenna, you too. Both of you just move forward and don't go snooping around!" she demanded quietly. She swiveled her ears to listen for that slithering sound again, hoping it wasn't catching up. Well, no. She secretly wished it did. If it was an enemy, it was a perfect excuse to work out some aggression.
