"I am fine," he assured both the Tulgey and Tegan, but pretty much mostly Tegan. The mishap did not stop their companion from getting nearer the bodies and grabbing a flask, which he thought curious, but nothing untoward seemed to happen.
Yuri took a reflective moment to be grateful for a few things: that Makenna's mask had protected her better than Yuri's own had served him; that Tegan seemed at least slightly more concerned than upset, which meant that his life wasn't forfeit quite yet; and that they were finally getting on the move. He had little enough inclination to go snooping anymore; while the powder did not seem to have an immediate effect, his body knew something had happened to it. He did not particularly care to have anything else happening to it.
He followed his big sister's urges forward without complaint or pause. He could only hope that the direction they were going was out, and that whatever was making that odd noise was not following them.

Mrs. White's eyes glittered oddly, despite her calm expression, as she watched Tegan freak out slightly more than she had and repeat the question. Well, this was her family, supposedly. She sniffed delicately at the flask she'd picked up, but didn't open it. Resisting the urge to rub at her eye, as that would most likely only make it worse, she took up the rear of the group and followed behind them, paw pads hitting the ground in an even rhythm. She certainly had no objections to moving on from the long-dead bodies, as interesting as they were. After all, she felt all bedraggled and damp and things weren't going to get any better by just sitting around in a damp stone tunnel.
Silence didn't normally bother her, but it did make her suppressed darker side that much louder, and she knew she had the tendency to mutter to herself if she forgot she wasn't alone. She'd gotten more than a few weird looks from her fellow servants at McDuck Manor in this way. So after a few minutes of sputtering torchlight and damp stone, she spoke. "I do hope one of you has some idea of where we're going," she said, making sure her voice had just the perfect amount of tremor to make her seem worried, but not terrified. Inwardly she was darkly amused. She knew none of them did, of course.

Mrs. White once again heard the slithering sound before them, and an odd, disjointed-looking figure slowly came into outline focus as they wended their way further down the passage. It looks...a bit like an Animal formed Card...maybe a Canine. Though, if that's true, he's sitting at an odd angle and has a very long, thick tail. Too bad there's a small light source behind him. Makes him impossible to make out in detail, only in relief unless you get closer... He doesn't seem to respond to calling either, just shudders slightly as he sits.

It appeared that they were destined to keep finding bodies. Well, insofar as two instances could be reliably called a trend, and he was tempted to name it so. He felt the same curious fascination that had propelled him toward the other bodies, the desire to flesh out a cause of death, but this time he did not stray too close. He did not need to get close to see that he was not going to be investigating a corpse at all, for the Card was trembling minutely, clearly alive. He was quite relieved and faintly disappointed.
"Sir," he said, trying to get his attention--he was reluctant to get up close and pat him, tap him, shake him; not until he knew for certain that nothing strange was going to happen. He even had some sort of lamp tucked away behind him, which would be useful. When the--canine?--did not respond, he said again, "Sir, are you all right?"

Mrs. White was unsurprised to hear the odd sound again, though she still couldn't hazard a very good guess at what had made it. She felt a small shiver go through her limbs, though, at the thought of what it could be. Perhaps she could put her knife to good use. However, she wasn't expecting such a normal-looking silhoette to appear in front of the group, and she paused, ears perked forward and swollen eye straining to open to see better. Of course, she heard nothing and her pink eye stayed tightly shut.
A low growl of annoyance came out of her throat before she controlled it and pushed it aside, along with her eagerness to just fight the thing in front of her. Whatever it was, it didn't seem nearly so innocent or helpless as the children. She let one of said children call out to the figure, while she drew herself up straight. She slowly moved a bit closer to the figure, strafing right to try and get a better angle on it. Of course, she still didn't want to get too far ahead of Teagan, especially when her meeker personality was the one in control.
"Hello?" she said, a little louder and closer than Yuri had. "Do you need any assistance? Or do you perhaps know the way out?" Doubtful. Her claws itched to sink into flesh the second she found out what the mysterious Canine was doing.

Tegan sighed in relief. Thank god he seemed alright for now. For now. He was still going to see a doctor as soon as this was all over. Makenna was thankfully alright and being cooperative. She gave a passive shrug to Ms. White.
“I don’t, but it’s better than sticking around here. I’m starting to get the idea that staying put is a better way to attract trouble.” It wasn’t until a few moments passed that she realized what a useless thing that was to say. Of COURSE she didn’t know where they were going! None of them did. She certainly hoped Ms. White was trying to strike up conversation out of nerves, because Tegan was so not in the mood for games right now.
The form ahead of them made her nervous at first. A trap? Eh, more likely someone in the same situation as them. She sighed, looking over what seemed to be a cowering form. Great. Just what they needed. Someone else to baby sit. She let Ms. White approach the Canine. Tegan was sure she would just scare him into uselessness..
“How’s he looking?” she called to her, staying near the kids.

"He looks catatonic," Yuri said curiously. Though it was not the exciting sort of catatonia he had read about in one of his many textbooks, the malignant kind that could eventually lead to death. He doubted that was a sort of thing that he would ever come across. It was not a very common cause of death. "Unresponsive to...external noise thingies. Maybe he is suffering some sort of stress disorder."
Post-traumatic, yes, it certainly made a good deal of sense. Perhaps he had seen something of the scratchy-paper noise and it had driven him quite mad. Perhaps he had escaped a battle with the bad creature at the center of their subterranean labyrinth and it had broken his brain. How terrible, he thought. If they could haul this man out he would probably need to be committed, maybe indefinitely. And more immediately, he was going to be useless for helping them get out.

The pitiable creature shuddered a bit as Yuri approached it, though that was nearly indescribable from the constant pulsing of the thick veins sticking out oddly from his flesh. Yuri was able to get just enough of a good look at them to see that they appeared to be growing into the man's flesh, as opposed to from or on it...before the other Card jerked to his feet abruptly. Bipedal and making an awkward choking sound, his eyes rolled pitiably in his head before his limbs jerked at random, and he flew at Mrs. White! Something around the area of his chest was jerking and twitching horribly...was his heart hanging out of his chest beneath his shirt? A rucksack dropped from where he had been hunched over it and a small belt around his waist broke loose, spilling coins across the murky floor (10 for Mrs. White, 8 for Yuri, 14 for Tegan) and something in a tiny, leather pouch. Still making the awkward choking sound, the Card make stumbling, thick, tearing motions at the Cat, moaning as though in horror, as something in its throat began to poke out of his mouth. Thick, brownish red, and pulsing.

Mrs. White could only make a slightly disgusted face as she got close enough to see what the man looked like. How...utterly fascinating. Was this a natural mutation? If so, it looked like one that was a ticking time bomb. He clearly was no longer rational. "I believe that he--" But she got no further than that before the Card suddenly launched to his feet and pounded towards her. The Feline reacted without thinking, drawing her knife and tensing as her whole self seemed to become more focused, and her good eye narrowed. Her darker side was unleashed now, to do the things that a mild-mannered maid never could.
She managed to lithely jump out of the way of the Canine's almost randomly flailing limbs (17) and then twisted in midair and, activating her innate ability with weapons, stabbed toward that thing-that-might-be-a-heart with her knife with stunning accuracy, especially considering her eye injury (20). She made a sound that was half hiss, half giddy laugh, eyes alight with fire as she fought. Killing this thing was what she wanted to do, anyway, and considering the noises coming out of the thing's mouth, it would even be a mercy killing.
Fluent Knife: This beautiful, but stately little knife is only the size of an ordinary kitchen knife, and seems plain, but quite fine and easy to wield. It will only obey one master per lifetime and will remain with its current one, working only for her until she dies. Then, it will look for a new one, so to speak. When a victim is cut with the blade, they will take three times as long as normal to heal from it. For example: If a small cut on the arm is made, and would normally take about 10 hours to heal, it would take about two days to heal normally. A deep cut that might take a week to recover from, will suddenly take three, and so on. Though it still allows blood to clot quickly, the knife makes the continually open wound incredibly painful and unpleasant to deal with...much like its owner when angered...
Moderate Magical Ability: When activated, she gains an immediate proficiency with any weapon that she picks up. This can be activated and deactivated at will.

The creature let out a gurgling screech as the knife whipped its ribs, a large slice of skin and thick flesh slapping forward over pale ribs and pulsing, entwined vines. Two of the vines, shot out at the Cat, one trying to tear the knife from her grip and failing miserably, ending up sliced and twitching on the floor. The other snapped around her left wrist and she felt a sharp pain as it tried to burrow under her skin[/b]! Her knife slipped out and cut the thing twitching beneath the man's shirt and sliced perfectly. Something thick, veiny, and greenish-brown, flew out from under the scraps of material to slide along the floor, roots writhed at the end of it and it looked a bit like a growing plant bulb.
Instantly, the other Cards limbs stopped flailing, his eyes gave the Cat a pained, pleading look as whatever had been emerging from his mouth retreated slightly. With a thick groan, he slowly keeled over onto the floor, twitching messily.[/i]
