He was still amazed at his new surroundings. Having planned on coming to the Capital ever since he had first heard of it, he had only arrived a few days ago. He was already in love with the labyrinth of walkways; the twist and the turns simply fascinated him. He could not wait till he had learned them all. At the current moment, the small red mouse was outside lounging outside an inn. Sitting with his feet out in front of him, he tossed something from white-glowing hand to white-glowing hand. Watching and analyzing all the creatures that walked by, he was quick to denote their mannerisms, how they walked, spoke, and what they even were doing. No one seemed to be taking any interest in him, which he was more then willing to accept. He tended to be more of a loner whenever possible. He continued to pass something between his paws. While it traveled the arch as it made its way to his other paw the sun glinted off of it. Continuing to play with the jewel he heaved a thoughtful sigh. What was he going to do today?

She wasn’t often in the Capital anymore, but today was an exception. She was checking on gifts for her daughters, but so far she hadn’t seen anything really fitting. Phyr and Kare were… special. Their strange, little family unit was not exactly “normal”, and, while she didn’t begrudge any of the oddness in their family, heaven knew she wasn’t ‘normal’ either, she didn’t want to chance hurting them some way by not giving each gift the proper thought. The day was running long, however, and she realized she would need to find an inn for the night; she still hadn’t located gifts and at this rate she wouldn’t have enough time to make it back home before it got too late. Purple eyes scanned the street again before alighting upon wot might be a good option. She strode carefully over on her large hindlegs, noticing almost belatedly the bright red creature lounging on the steps as though he owned the place. ”Excuse me,” she stated in her soft, feminine voice. ”Can you recommend a good inn to me?”

The jewel that he had been tossing through the air, was tossed one last time, making its last arch before landing in his right paw, which he cluched around it. Raising an eyebrow at the figure who had just addressed him, he eyed her for a long, silent moment taking in her bound forelegs. They looked to be painful.
He began to toss the jewel again, absentmindedly, before replying, "An inn? You mean like the one that is behind me?" He nodded with his head to the building that was located behind him.
"I don't know if that is the best one around, however, it is one of the nearest. Especially with it being right here and all. Convience is next to" The last bit was said sarcastically and he waved the rest of his speech off with his free paw.
Arching an eyebrow he resumed his speech,"If that is wot you are looking for . . . then I guess you found it." This time he spoke a little more politely, though the difference in speech would be hard pressed to notice.

Minh was dragging her feet—Mnemosyne had sent her out on another shopping trip with a list a good foot-and-a-half longer than the last one, completely filled with Mnemosyne’s messy, barely legible scrawl. Wasn’t the point of having a roommate that these sorts of things of menial tasks got split up? That Minh should go out had sounded perfectly reasonable at the time, but that was always the way with Mnemosyne—you were about twenty blocks from home before you’d realized you’d just been manipulated into running errands: because Mnemosyne couldn’t possibly get away from her research at the moment and wouldn’t Minh be a darling and fetch a few things for her?
Minh wasn’t so much bitter as appalled that after so many weeks of living together Mnemosyne could still trick her into doing things she detested and make it look like it had been Minh’s idea. Perhaps Mnemosyne let off some sort of pheromone that made it easier for her to manipulate and befuddled those in close vicinity?
Mulling the idea over, and formulating a possible solution—it would only be a minor alteration to her genetic code; nothing too drastic—she was almost immediately distracted by the flash of colored light that partially blinded her.
And then she saw the horn mutation. It was love at first sight.

The large canine was a bit taken aback by the words and tone of the mouse. She hadn’t asked for just an inn. Her gaze turned wary as she regarded the smaller creature for a very long moment. He was higher ranked, but not in suits. He seemed… annoyed with the world. Once upon a time, the Torquehelm would have tucked tail and scampered off, but she was no longer that lowly creature. She was a little more confident now.
Nevertheless, she was concerned she had offended the other somehow, though her words had been meant in a neutral way entirely. Her eyes gave away her confusion, however. She was silent for several very long moments, trying to decide exactly how to answer the Morganberry Card.
”Are… you staying at this inn?” she finally asked gently. In all honesty, there was a good chance that his answer would determine if she would even consider staying here. His presence seemed to be a great deterrent to her occupation, however brief, here.

Watching her eyes, he discovered that she seemed to be intimidated by him. There were not many he had met that were actually intimidated by him, though most of those he knew so far had been Morganberry themselves, and therefore they were of the same cloth. Though it was true that he was angry at the world, and the world justly deserved it in his eyes, it did not mean that he was necessarily mad at every living being on the planet. At least he liked to pretend that it held true most of the time.
Softening his tone only slightly he replied, "I may and I may not be. I have yet to decide for myself, at the moment. I guess it shall depend on wot the day will bring." He said this matter-of-factly, nodding his head a little, as if he was agreeing with himself on what he had just said. "Does it matter, to you, which I choose?"

The much larger Card wasn’t exactly ‘intimidated’, simply a bit concerned and certainly rather put off. The mouse looked more than discontent, he looked positively angst-ridden. From an often depressed region, Haret well knew the wisdom of leaving such creatures alone. She had thought, however, that perhaps the mouse simply had other things on his mind.
The other creature’s tone changed and Haret hoped that wouldn’t bode ill for her. Her tail wagged hesitantly behind her, uncertain if the Club was about to attack. His next question disarmed her completely and her eyes went further uncertain with a hint of her inner discomfort. She needed to choose her next words with care; unwilling to be cruel or mean for no reason. Her temper wasn’t up yet, and that would likely be the only way she’d react adversely. She tended to not realize she was that way, however.
”Why should your plans affect my own?” she finally ventured in return.

In the interest of diffusing a potentially messy confrontation—that was her story and she was sticking to it—Minh inserted herself into the conversation, creating a skewed sort of parody of the food chain. It was really rather amusing—mouse, cat, dog—but she didn’t bother pointing it out. There were more important things afoot: liking luring a certain rodent into her den. To go about this, however, she was going to have to set aside her own brand of charm in favor of channeling Mnemosyne.
“If you’re looking for pleasant accommodations, madam, I would suggest the Striped Rose. An acquaintance of mine speaks rather highly of it.”
Awh, Shinrai. Stalking did indeed seem to have its merits—otherwise she was completely clueless when it came to lodging, and her unwilling, still clueless victim had really come through for her.
Then she turned her most charming grin on the rodent, tilting her head to the side in a way of greeting, “I’m Minh.”

The rodent blinked at the newcommer a few times, almost as if he was trying to clear his eyesight. He was slightly taken aback by the forward interruption that@the cat had just pounced on them, though not all together unused to it. One generally came across that nature when hanging out with others who constantly thought they were better then you.
"Aderlass," He offered simply, "It is . . . nice to . . . um, meet you?" he finished in greeting, not sure what to make of the cat.
He looked the feline over, taking in her black fur and artful teal stripes. He would say that she was attractive, though her nature came off quite strong.
Shaking his head a little to dislodge where the thoughts were taking him, an unlogical conclusion, he brought himself back to the topic at hand. "The Striped Rose? I have yet to travel across that one. Where is that one located?"

"Where is that one located?"
They were spoken by the mouse Minh appeared to be conversing with, with a great deal of interest. She should have been out shopping. Minh had put it off and put it off and ended up with a grocery list a kilometer long, and Mnemosyne really didn't know why she even sent the feline to do the shopping anyway; she always behaved like such a man about these kinds of things. Perhaps she was subconsciously attempting to train her. One day she would be able to turn Minh out into the world and have her return in a timely manner with the necessary foodstuffs.
It probably wouldn't happen anytime soon, however. So she had ventured out herself with the mission of assisting her friend in the no-doubt daunting task of purchasing food.
The shopping could wait, though. This looked to be far more interesting.
"Not far from here," she piped up, walking toward the small assembled group and shooting Minh only the briefest of beleagered frowns before addressing the mouse. "Minh and I would be more than happy to show you the way and get you safely to your destination."
At this point she gave Minh a warning look--she had surmised why exactly the feline was so interested in the mouse, and it probably had less to do with helping and more to do with a snack. Minh's snack, to be precise.
