The Queen's Tap, being not so high-end and not so pricey, was located closer to Mnem and Minh's neighborhood than the Striped Rose, which was just as well, as it meant that as soon as they checked in, it would be a very short jaunt indeed to the apartment.
The mouse and bipedal were in for a messy surprise, but there was really no helping that. Perhaps Minh's equipment and Mnem's vast array of plants (both of which seemed to be expanding at an alarming rate; Mnem's plants now occupied locations as diverse as the bathoom sink and occasionally inside the washing bin) and would be seen as some kind of charming decor, some kind of mad-scientist-chic.
And perhaps Aces could cast spells.
Mnem sighed as she lead them through the streets, and eventually to their newest destination.
"This is the Tap," she informed them. "I hope it is more to your tastes."

Haret’s ears flicked back as she caught the edges of her companions’ irritation; the mouse gave an outright sigh, and the canine’s word choice gave a great deal of insight into the motivation behind the speech. Her own gaze hinted at her distress at causing trouble, but she could not justify the cost of the Striped Rose. The Queen’s Tap looked a great deal more hopeful and she disappeared inside swiftly to book her room.
The innkeeper greeted her with careful deference; her bipedal form bespoke power though she may or may not actually be able to support the idea if pressed. As he took her to her room, Haret hoped for some way to abstain from further time with those who had brought her here. The directions to the inn were, of course, appreciated, but the longer she spent with others the more she simply knew that she didn’t belong with them. She thanked the other canine quietly for the room, accepting the room’s key and watching the man leave. She was pleased to have somewhere to stay, but now she felt obligated to go back out to her waiting companions. If only she could stay here! But, she had a social obligation and the three would only get more annoyed if she didn’t go now. With a sigh, Haret locked the door behind her and moved quickly, if carefully back downstairs and outside.

He eyed the two females who had so kindly invited him to their lodgings in order to discuss an opportunity that they had for him. He was tempted to ask about just what they had in plan for him, but from the grin he had caught from the canine a few times, he - for some unexplained reason - thought that it might involve something that would not be entirely accepted to talk about on the streets.
Catching the look from the feline, he raised an eyebrow. He was not used to being looked at like . . . that. He did not even know if he had words for it. Raising his head a little, defensively, his attention was caught by a new discovery. He saw vague flashes of something. Trying to focus on it, they only became more blurred and incoherent. Not that they had not been before. Looking at the feline a little more closely his eyes widened in recognition.

Minh had been fiddling with a blade of grass as she waited for Haret to return from securing a room and she was so engrossed in the mindless repetition of swaying, blurred green that she almost missed Aderlass’ strange expression entirely. She only really noticed because of that distinctly vague, tingling crawl one was prone to experience when being intently examined. She slowly raised narrowed blue eyes to return the gaze of warm yellow and wondered what the hell had screwed loose in his head.
It was becoming apparent, however, that something wasn’t quite right with her vision—it was skewed and a little hazy—closely resembling the double-vision she tended to suffer from when she drank too much. Except Minh hadn’t drunk anything besides her coffee this morning and unless Mnem had spiked it there was no way to explain the sudden shift. She felt off kilter, like her world was getting infinitely bigger and smaller all at the same time; she couldn’t hear anything over the rush in her ears.
She pulled back, reeling from overload. It stopped. What the fuck had that been...
A lone piece of grass fluttered harmlessly to the worn pavement.

When his own yellow orbs had met those of the blue ones, his world had narrowed to just the images. Though fleeting, there seemed to be no set purpose behind them, they were just vague images of thoughts, flashing by. Then he saw his own yellow gaze in the images. He blinked.
Slowly the world seemed to settle back into normality routine. Still slightly shaken, he blinked trying to shake off what had just happened as a dream, a figment of imagination. Looking closely at the feline he noticed that she seemed to be just as shaken.
“Did . . . did you mean to do that?” he asked the feline, still startled by what had just happened. After the brief moment of alarm he had begun to recognize what it was that she had done.
He noticed the blade of grass that had fallen from her hand to the cobblestones, making the connection.

Haret stepped outside in time to catch some sort of exchange between Aderlass and Minh. She hesitated on the threshold, wondering if she should just retreat back inside. Neither of the pair seemed very pleased by wot had occurred, and the black canine’s deep purple eyes went questioningly to the Yarrow Garden’s canine for a moment. Her gaze went back to the pair as her mind worked unconsciously to discover wot she could. It was difficult to tell, though the mouse’s yellow gaze slipped to something on the ground between them. A blade of grass? Why would a blade of grass cause such a serious air amongst them?
One black foot stepped hesitantly out of the inn. She was loathe to break the moment with her words, and instead slipped silently to one side so any one else needing to get in or out of the Queen’s Tap need not fight with her large frame.

Mnem caught the canine's gaze but was not able to respond to it; she was not entirely certain what had transpired and was continuing to transpire. She had no idea what was going on with the blade of grass that seemed to figure so heavily in their exchange, but she could guess at the other part. They were both Clubs, she knew, and both of them had attained a relatively high rank, and Mnem was unfortunately more than familiar with what could happen there.
She had encountered a small group of Clubs that had tried to swindle her out of money on a deal using that trick. It made her suspicious and uncomfortable; she didn't like being out of the loop on conversations, which was one of the reasons she made it such a point to be up to par on languages.
She wondered if they would reach any conclusions soon.

Minh shook her head in an attempt to clear it, growling in consternation as she tried to come to a viable conclusion about what exactly had just happened. One minute she’d been mindlessly starring off into space, and the next—she really had no idea. So of course she hadn’t mean to do it—she wasn’t even exactly sure what she’d done in the first place!
Ever the scientist, she quickly came to the conclusion she wouldn’t be able to even start to analyze what had just happened without simulating exactly what had led up to the experience. She picked up the lone blade of grass, contemplative. It didn’t really seem like grass would be a conduit for whatever had happened, but she needed to isolate the right catalyst, and that meant initiating her little experiment by first doing everything the same.
She twirled the little stem of green, but nothing happened until she concentrated. The world expanded. It was disorienting, and she didn’t have a reference point in this state of half-vision. She could vaguely sense the people around her, but they were muted and unimportant; she didn’t know how she recognized Aderlass out of all the similar cards milling about the street. They all had a different sound, but Aderlass was a distinct, clear sound like crystal that echoed above the din. She concentrated on him and felt her world contract.
Okay, so—telepathy of some sort, but she couldn’t seem to communicate through words. She tried several methods, the last of which was the image of Monty. She pulled back, reality settling back into its familiar confounds, and looked at Aderlass expectantly.

The same thing happened again, though this time it was more focused. When the world was . . . changed, there was no other word to truly fit what he was experiencing. The world was the same, only the colors seemed to be lighter. When the images began, they were much clearer this time. He saw the distinct image of a bander.
Meeting her gaze when the image had faded, he was pleased that she seemed to have figured out how to control her power, though he did not truly think that she knew what she was doing.
“That was nice control. A little more practice and you should be able to get it down perfect.” He told her, a small grin on his face. It was always nice to see someone with the same type of power running around, and her being a Club too added to his excitement. “Yes, that was well done indeed, Minh.”

Minh felt no small hint of delight at the mouse’s praise, but she was more pleased with herself. She’d obviously unintentionally discovered a new ability and a rather powerful one at that—and with work it would become increasingly beneficial. The limitation, however, was bothersome—being restricted to her own suit could be potentially problematic. It couldn’t completely dampen her excitement, though. This was awesome.
Using the grass as a conduit seemed a little weird—why couldn’t it be something cool? But grass was pretty much everywhere, so at least she wouldn’t really ever have to worry about that. And it wasn’t like anyone would expect her to be dependent on a cultivated weed to communicate, so she had the element of surprise there.
But, whatever. She could talk to people with her mind. She’d always known she possessed a superior intellect.
Slipping the small bit of grass behind her ear she grinned, for a little while completely at peace with the world, “Cool.”
