Everyone appeared to be in the market for a little extra money. This was unexpectedly good news of Mnem--and Minh, by extension, who had no real discernible source of income that Mnem could pinpoint. The mouse had also uttered the word "partnership," which quirked Mnem's interest even more. She was slowly building up a web of contacts in Capital City, both new and some of the old ones that she could track down and convince to continue working for her, and if the mouse could offer anything even remotely useful, she would have to add him to her collection, as it were.
And if all he needed in return was money, then Mnem was in luck. She didn't like dealing in favors, unless she was the one owed them.
She might even have something for the soft-voiced bipedal and her daughters. She did not care for such apparent meekness, normally, found it tedious and annoying, but she was feeling generous.
"Would you like to come over to our humble little abode after you get settled here? I might have something your daughters would like," she told the dark canine, and then looked at the mouse. "I think I have something for you as well. Minh, would you do well with a couple of guests?"
They would have to do some emergency tidying up and hiding of certain materials--Mnem had just cleaned yesterday, but you could hardly tell--but other than that it should be fine.

Surprise flicked through the large canine’s deep purple gaze; she didn’t expect such a blatant invitation, especially not from someone who had literally only just met her. There was no evidence to clue the Torquehelm on wot the Yarrow Gardens resident’s occupation might be. As such, Ma’aharet was rather leery of accepting this ‘generous’ offer. From the looks and behaviours of the tri-coloured female, Haret had little doubt that she followed the mold of her region and that immediately placed Mnemosyne on her ‘Watch Carefully’ list. No actual distrust or dislike, the Torquehelm was just very wary.
”I would be loathe to intrude,” the black canine replied softly; she sounded docile rather than guarded. She didn’t want to be rude to the other Cards as she had no desire to alienate any of the three. As did most of her realm, she was simply very careful with her words, even if her gaze did have the possibility of giving away more than she cared to admit. In this case, her purple eyes were demurely cast off to the side of the street.

Something for him? His attention was caught. What could this canine possible have that would interest him? He stared at her unblinking for a moment, weighing his options. This 'something' might actually be of a use to him, so the opportunity might be one to take.
It was not also like he was not able to defend himself. He was a mouse afterall, and therefore was able to squeeze out of a lot of undesireable situations. His mutation of horns, though he loathed them more then admired them, did provide delightful outcomes when thrust at his victims -usually screams and curses that were given as thanks, all of which sang to his ears. His hands were also a wonderful device that caused torment to those who thought to cause him harm.
Let it suffice to say, his personal protection was well looked after, so his need to worry about it was slim. Thus, he let his curiosity take over.
With a delightful nod he replied, "While the canine here seems hesitant to take such kind offersn I find that is a lovely offer. I will be more then willing to listen to this 'something' ."

Mnem smiled softly at the other canine, attempting to project an air of trustworthiness. She wasn't sure if the gesture was wasted or not; the canine appeared to be keeping her eyes elsewhere. Mnem wasn't quite sure which of her flowers she would give the woman to offer her daughters--perhaps the amaranth (lovely in a simple and serviceable way, blossoms remaining open and bright red for seemingly eternity, their fragrance calming and said to invite love and luck) if she continued feeling generous; perhaps the lilium (flashy and beautiful but all-together a bad omen) if she got to feeling more mischievous. There would be plenty of time to figure it out.
"You're not imposing at all, my dear," she told her. "I would feel very dismayed if you did not accept our hospitality, in fact."
The mouse's response had delighted her. She thought he might be interested. She just hoped he could do something useful. She needed more useful people.
"I promise that you will not regret your decision. If Minh doesn't mind, we shall set forth immediately after you have checked in."

Minh considered Mnemosyne carefully out of the corner of her eye, wondering what the devious canine was up to this time. Granted, the idea of having the rodent enter willingly, of unknowingly, into her lair would be delightful but she doubted that would be Mnemosyne’s objective; Minh wasn’t particularly keen about non-victims entering into her abode, even if the majority of her equipment was upstairs. And Mnem had potentially lethal plants scattered everywhere around the apartment and while Minh knew to avoid them, their guests might not have the same digression and Minh really didn’t want to have a dead body of her hands.
Mnemosyne had to be aware of all that, though, so Minh would have to trust that the canine knew what she was doing.
“I don’t mind at all. Shall we get you checked in, first??”
She gestured politely with a paw in the direction of the Striped Rose—she actually kind of recognized where they were know—and tried her best to looking genial and accommodating.

They had arrived already? The mouse looked towards where the feline, Mihn, was pointing, he could clearly see the sign hanging above the door that read, The Striped Rose Inn.
This inn did look a lot better then the one that he had been staying at, and where he had been sitting in front of earlier. However, it also appeared that this one would be far out of his price range. Glancing towards the bipedal Haret, he watched for her expression. They were here to secure her lodgings, and after they would be able to go about learning what the other canine had to offer him.
He was very interested in what the lower card could possible offer him. He was hoping it would be something that would allow him to travel where he pleased, or at least give him reason to go scuttling about the city. Anything that would also allow him to handle shineys, his precious jewels, would more then please him.
“So, shall we go in?” he suggested ready to be done here.

Haret eyed the inn for a moment, hesitation evident in her gaze before firming up again. Truly she wasn’t certain if this was the best inn for her. It looked nice, of course, but her concern was the same as Aderlass’, though she was unaware of their similarity. She was afraid it would be too expensive for her one night stay.
”Is the other hotel far from here?” she asked in her high, melodic voice. ”I’m afraid the Striped Rose looks a bit too expensive for my single night’s stay. The Queen’s Tap may be a far better option.” She wasn’t really embarrassed by her lack of financial prosperity, as it were. She just had to be cautious, especially with her desire to purchase nice presents. Wotever she eventually decided on.
Her tail tucked slightly at the remembrance; she really needed to get on that rather than wandering around the Capital with strangers. But she did need an inn. She kept the sigh hidden, though there was a hint of exasperation and anxiety in her gaze.

Mnemosyne was mildly annoyed by this, and it took a good deal of effort to disguise her impatience. She was not unsympathetic to their financial worries--she too tried to be frugal, for the most part, for who would shell out for an expensive place to stay when the money could be better spent bribing some down-on-their-luck Club to brave dangerous territory to retrieve a rare herb?--but she just wanted them all to get settled so they could get down to business.
A brief internal debate was conducted in her brain: should she try to persuade the bipedal canine to simply lodge here and have done with it despite the price, or should she lead them to the Queen's Tap, which was not terribly far but would cut into precious negotiation time? She was confident that if she turned on the charm, her Diamond talent for persuasion would carry her through with the former; but she was exasperated enough to just settle on the latter. The canine's children were getting the lilium.
"This way, then, darling," she said brusquely. "If one must eschew comfort for affordability."

Minh considered Mnemosyne for a moment, only sensing the canine’s irritation through Minh’s long association with her. It was rather inconvenient—they’d suggested the two inns and expressed the differences rather clearly, Minh felt, but apparently not. And she couldn’t help but wonder about someone who asked for the nicest inn and didn’t expect it to be priced accordingly. This was the capital, after all; you could expect business owners to squeeze every penny they could out of you.
But, whatever—she’d met her quota of introspection for today.
She trotted down the street in the direction Mnem had indicated, considering how she could possibly persuade the rodent to voluntarily offer up a sample of his blood. His horn mutation was absolutely fascinating, and she really would like to be able to isolate the gene responsible—compared with a sample of Monty’s blood, she might just be able to accomplish it.

What, she did not want to stay here? Heaving a sigh of frustration but hoping that the canine did not pick up on it, he rolled his neck. While he would admit that he, himself, would not willing stay here at this inn, it being one of the pricier of inns and a little harsher on the wallet, he also felt frustrated due to the fact that he was being delayed in the information that the other canine and feline were going to offer him.
Taking a deep breath in order not to say something that the creature might take offense to or even be hurt by, he continued, following their two tour guides. Hopefully she would find the Queen’s Tap more suitable and they could all get along with their other plans. While it was true that he had nothing else to do today he also did not want to spend it wasting time.
