He was a fool. Really, if you took each component part of his life, from the moment he left the Glacier to the moment that he decided he should go home with that coyote, and added them together, you'd have one answer: He was a complete and total fool. And here he was, in the middle of the Capital, looking over a display case of flowers. He was really acting to make even more of a fool of himself, wasn't he? There was a huge variety of colors and even scents found in the bunches of roses. Some of the boquets even proclaimed themselves to be grown in the Court of Hearts itself (Yeah, right, he snorted to himself, like the Queen of Hearts would sell his roses to the little cat who was running the shop). It was with an expression of dismay that he realized that none of them were right. Glowering, he turned away and made a beeline for the fruit stand, muttering angry curses and refusing to look anyone in the eye as he skipped along the road. Damn flowers. He hated them. Why on earth did they need so many different kinds, anyway? Didn't nice red roses still exist?

Once more, Zuberi found herself in the busy part of the city, passing out her little seashell trinkets. So far she had only reeled in a few at the prospect of a beach-side vacation. Honestly she didn't know how much longer she could dally around away from home with such dissatisfying results. She sat down on the bench for a moment, content to sit by and watch the people for a moment. It was then when a peculiar sight caught her eye; a rather disgruntled looking bat. Well, disgruntled wasn't even the right word. It was a deeper frustration that looked as if it were about to tear him apart... all from looking at flowers? She physically flinched when he twirled away from the flowers with a stream of curses. Zuberi couldn't relate to having such intense negative emotions, being a mellow creature herself. It seems like he certainly, and her ears perked up as she realized.... needed a vacation! She made her approach cautiously, adjusting her generally flirtatious demeanor to that of a more friendly and open one. With a natural happy sway she couldn't really control, she sidled up beside the seething bat, picking out an apple from the stand and passing payment to the owner that ran it. The bat still stood there rather darkly, and it seemed that there would be no proper way to approach him. For a moment, Zuberi considered merely leaving the bat be, but her innate need to cause joy and happiness and bring smiles to those she saw sorely got in the way. (a trait that comes in handy when one works in a prime tourist location) "Hm... finding a gift for a loved one is triiicky business, mon." She kept her tone casual, but turned a green eye to peer at him. How he reacted would decide her next move.

Seth was prodding through the fruits with no small amount of displeasure shining on his face. Each grapefruit that he turned over looked thouroughly unappetizing, every apple seemed to his eyes to be bruised beyond repair. In his peripheral vision, he could see a vividly green shape, but for the moment he simply shrugged it off. And there, in the middle of the pile of apples, sat the perfect specimen, and Seth smiled to himself as he reached into his bag to grab the few coins that he had left.
And then the green creature took the apple and his mouth fell open in a wordless sort of horror. She - she took the apple! And she bought it! But -
Seth could feel the anger starting to bubble up as he picked his jaw up off of the floor, brows furrowing slightly. He would give her a piece of his mind! Sure, it wasn't her fault he was having a bad day... But she had taken the apple! And then, as soon as the rage had come, it left, leaving him feeling rather deflated.
"Uh, yeah. It is.[/b]" he replied, a little cautiously. "Wait, no! She's not a loved one. Don't get the wrong idea, there.[/b]" silently, he cursed the coyote. He had been so well-spoken before she had come along!

Obviously something as simple as a purchase of an apple was enough to nearly send this creature into a mess of emotions. She couldn't help but glance at the apple she was holding when he stared at it with something akin to.. horror. It was quickly replaced by an anger that nearly made her recoil... then her words sunk into his batty little skull. The little implosion of emotions that happened before her was.. almost amusing. She was glad, even if her assumption was (supposedly) incorrect, that her comment had wiped that seething chunk of FURY that was his face clean. Her mouth formed into a wide smile, mouth open in an 'aha!' motion as she gestured to him with a clawed finger. "Loved enough to buy her flowers tho', I think!" She challenged his denial, not able to hold back the good natured laugh. Then, as if half-remembering that look on his face just a moment earlier, she extended the apple she just bought to him. "But I must ask, friend, why you'd be bying flowers for a lady when she's not.." She glanced at the apple in her hand, amused at her own pun about to leave her lips. ".. the apple of your eye?"

Seth blinked several times. Who was this strange squirrel, and why was she talking to him? Why was she buying him the apple he had been planning to buy for himself? Expression hesitant, the bat reached out and took the fruit, turning it over between his claws before clearing his throat.
He was an emotional mess. He almost felt sorry for the green squirrel. Almost.
"Well... Uh. It's complicated.[/b]" he shrugged slightly, biting his lip. "It's not that I don't... like her, it's just... Well. I don't know how to impress a woman I'm already involved with. Kindof involved.[/b]" Well, that was lame. He looked up from the apple to meet her inquisitive green eyes, a crooked smile splayed across his muzzle. He suddenly recognized her as the one who had been advertising for vacations to the Beach, and he almost felt... depressed in that moment. So much for someone to talk to about things like this. Strawberry was another man, he didn't want to hear about the woes of love.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to rope you into my personal disaster.[/b]" he laughed slightly, trying to shrug it off.

Oh, bless his heart! Zuberi couldn't help but chuckle, putting her hands up in a good natured symbol of dismissal. "Oooh man, tha's what I do half the time, listen to what people have to say!" It was undeniably true too, for people in a place where they don't know others and willing to cut loose tend to wish to talk about their personal lives.. get things off their chest. It was no doubt that they probably had few people to talk to at home. Sometimes they spoke of relationship problems, and others went on about how they hated their bosses. One could say many people left Midori beach feeling.. cleansed somehow of the heavy burden they came in with. Then again rest and relaxation would do that about as well as a good talk.
The squirrel forced herself to sober up, finishing up her chuckles with a long, calming sigh before sidling a bit away from the fruit stand, away from the gathering of people so that they'd have a bit more privacy. With a smile, she gestured with a nod of her head for him to follow along. "But in all seriousness, mon, it's in mah nature to be a good listener. Aey, I theenk I might even have good advice!"
"So.. you're trying to impress this.. woman that you may or may not be.. kind of involved with. We'd dare not insinuate you are!" Now she was teasing him a bit, and she gave him a wink to let him know she was merely pulling his tail. "What does she like? Is she.. always wanting to be close by, does she keep to herself? Is she.. affectionate? With a woman, you must find what she desires. For some women they may love a pretty bunch of flowers.. others may not." Holding out both webbed paws, she used them to symbolize one type of woman and the other.
((Just imagine everything she says in a Pirates of the Caribbean Calypso/Jamaican sort of accent when I fail to type like it.. it's difficult to type like that without it looking like a jumbled clusterflux of illiterate.. poo.))

Seth could feel himself relaxing slightly. Though she was incredibly harsh on the eyes, the squirrel did give off an aura of calm and cool, and that was what he needed most right now. His mind was racing a mile a minute, and he needed desperately to get them under control. Zuberi seemed to be interested in helping him with that process, and if it meant that he needed to listen to a sales-pitch for a vacation to Midori Beach... Well. He could certainly deal with that.
He might actually listen, now that he considered it. With his and Heilyn's trip to the Bog coming up quickly, a vacation could be a great thing.
"Thanks,[/b]" he mumbled softly, scratching behind an ear. Anyone who knew him would recognize this as a sure sign that he was having issues emotionally. "In all honesty, I could really use some advice. The name's Seth, by the way.[/b]" he extended a wing slightly, giving her a slightly crooked smile. He just... wasn't feeling like himself.
"It's really complicated.[/b]" he insisted, ears flicking backwards. "I slept with her, then I kissed her. How could I do something so stupid?! We had something so comfortable going on, and then I just... I couldn't control myself! She's my boss, and I doubt she'd want me to really pursue a relationship, but she's on my mind all the time.[/b]" he sagged noticably as he said this, looking away from her. "I... Well, it sounds lame, but I read in a book that Bog dwellers love flowers.[/b]"

Hm. This time, Zuberi kept the urge to laugh at bay. They were getting into much more delicate details of the goings-on and to lose it now would mean to possibly get him enraged once more. Not that she was -scared- of him or anything... She extended her paw, returning the shake and cleared her throat. "Well, I do admit it seems you've had a very.. backwards start. Not to surprise you or anythin'.. but kissing usually comes first." At that comment she couldn't help but smile a bit.
"Well, at this point a professional relationship is probably... out the window." Zuberi stated it bluntly, even accompanying it with a tossing hand motion. Silly little gesticulater. "So what you should really focus on is affirming where you both stand. I suppose giving her a gift would aid in confirming it either way." Quite well spoken for a Midori, isn't she?
"If.. you don't mind me asking though, what is it that you do, and how did you end up in bed with her?"

"I know, I know,[/b]" Seth replied, ears flattening backwards in what could either be displeasure or discomfort. It did sound completely strange, now that he actually took the time to consider it. "I mean, there'd been other kisses before, for... You know. Foreplay and the like.[/b]" Argh, and now he was blushing. He just hoped that his fur was thick enough to cover it. "This kiss... meant something.[/b]"
And when you were just in it for sex, meaning was a bad thing.
He glanced at the squirrel, feeling quite glad that he had agreed to becoming Heilyn's bodyguard. It certainly made explaining things easier. "Well... She's from the Raemblen Bog, and she's serving as a diplomat between them and the Courts. Right now, she's also serving as a Jack.[/b]" he fell silent for a moment, scratching at his side. "I'm going to be serving as her bodyguard, first on a trip to the Bog with her, and later on in the courts in general.[/b]"
As for how he ended up in bed with her... Well. That one was much easier to explain, but much harder to do with tact. "Alcohol.[/b]" he answered simply, giving her a wide grin. "And then, well, we both enjoyed it. That's how we ended up in bed together on multiple occasions.[/b]"

Throughout the entire time he spoke, Zubari merely watched him, looking at how his face changed with what he was saying, reading into what he felt as well as what he said. Zuberi... was a simple person with simple reasoning, but some people may argue that it's this way of life that can reveal much truth. She'd gotten into this conversation thinking that it would be much less complex, and now she wouldn't be able to back out so easily. Strangely enough, she found out that she really didn't want to. She wanted to help this bat, to let that love that was caged up within his heart be able to grow as it should.
Her silence might have stretched out somewhat uncomfortably as she considered all she had seen and heard, a hand coming up to stroke her chin thoughtfully. "When the wind is right, it is the time for sailing." That might have been somewhat enigmatic, and she shook her head with a smile. "And when love blossoms, it is natural we follow through with it." Even as she said it she knew there would be.. complications. Would it fall through? If he opened up to his feelings would it push her away? Would their unprofessional actions get him fired? She continued with her explanation. "But if there isn't love.. well, it be best not to fish in barren waters. It would only waste your time, and cause you more harm than good. Open up to her. Either good will come of it, or it would end something that might drag on and tear your heart worse than if it ends now."
It was quite possible that he wouldn't like what she had said. It was difficult taking the simple route, which was ironic in itself. Finally she sighed, offering a smile that broke her solemn expression. "So you say they like flowers? Well, I don't know much about people from those lands but we could certainly give it a try." She paused, then chuckled. "But for the long run I suggest you find out what -she- likes particularly, and not rely so much on stereotypes. She might take offense to it."
Oh, but what about her sales pitch? At that point, it was pretty much lost from all of the conversation. "Eh, this would be the time I should say 'Come to Midori Beach!' but honestly sir, I'd suggest asking her beforehand.. and testing the waters with the flowers. Some women find it creepy, being asked out of town and away from everyone they know."
