"A year now," Theofilus grinned, "Three months into working for me and my partner he confessed his undying love for me. To his great surprise I explained that I had no interest in men, but he still tries. Determined man. That's why my partner insisted that we keep him on even when he wanted to quit from embarrassment. Sometimes my partner was good at convincing others."
His partner was going to leave soon. It would just be Theo running the firm. It was like a dream come true combined with a slight nightmare. He was going to miss the man, even though he was going to still be in the Lakes, they would probably barely see each other. What else would a newlywed do with a Girl who was unattainable for most men? Yarrow Gardens girl with a boy from the lakes. It was flat out amazing, and with that alone Theofilus would probably scarcely see his partner and business companion.
"I'm just happy that Rogers is staying when my partner is leaving. I was worried that he would retire early," the sparrow shrugged, "The man does quite a bit of work by himself, which is why the secretaries tend to leave. They get annoyed that he likes to double check work."
He smiled, "I'm also glad I'm not shifty."

Kelasia filed away the information without immediately realizing she'd done so. It wasn't surprising that people declared their love for the bird; if she wasn't careful, she'd want to as well. She wanted very much to stay near Theofilus and she found herself subconsciously plotting on how to do that. As soon as she caught the thoughts, however, she put a firm stop to them. Theo was a Nine of Diamonds as well. If that was good enough for him, then it was good enough for her, and forget wotever her mother might say.
"He sounds like a great person," Kel managed to say as she fought to put her errant thoughts back into line. "Is he a micromanager or does he just check the work again later?" It was a silent testament to her distraction that she only asked one question rather than three.

"He just likes to double check sometimes if it's an important account." Theofilus shrugged, "He simply likes to triple check things he finds important. He won't micromanage you, and if he does you have every reason to tell him to stop. He'll listen."
The sparrow eyed the skunk. She still seemed to be struggling with something. It couldn't help but worry that something was wrong. Perhaps she was worried about wages? Or perhaps it was something else entirely... Theofilus prevented his mind from wandering in that direction. That never lead him to any good places.
"Is there anything else? Are you worried about wages and room and board? Or am I on the completely wrong track?" he tilted his head questioningly. He hadn't had any solid as cement plans her wages. He would probably give her the same as the previous secretary, by the hour with a weekly paycheck. No one really seemed to complain, and unless Rogers disagreed and wanted to handle it differently.

"Oh, should I be concerned about room and board as well?" Kelasia asked quietly, pale eyes glancing briefly up to the bird's face before flipping back down to the table again. She wasn't certain wot to make of his facial expression and it puzzled her.
The information about Rogers was interesting and useful, but the look into her own heart was a bit frightening; and not something she wanted to dwell on here. Perhaps never, actually. Her tail twitched out of sight as she gave herself a sudden, stern talking to. Theofilus was being nothing but absolute magnanimous to her and she was repairing that kindness by acting like a besotten fool. He deserved better than that, his generousity deserved better than that.
She -would- act like an adult and she would do her best to work for him without feeding this little.... 'crush'. She just wished her heart would stop beating so hard everytime she looked at him.

(( OOC: Shall we end it with one last post from you? Herm? ))
Theofilus shook his head, "Everything else can be discussed at the office. It will be easier with the paperwork right in front of you." It wasn't that he was dodging the metaphorical bullet he just hadn't memorized the contract yet.
"Once we finish, I'll show you where the library is and then I can show you the firm. Does that sound like a plan?" The sparrow smiled as warmly as he could. They had managed their way through a volley of questions and ultimately come to a job deal. Hopefully in the future they could talk about much more than job offers. Eventually the skunk could find her goals and all would be right in the world.
But that thought that they could be just a little more than friends sneaked into Theofilus' unconscious mind. He just couldn't help but think of what could happen in the future. And maybe she would have more self confidence as she grew more successful?
He snapped out of his day dreaming haze and waited for a reply so he could lead the way. What a wonderful day it turned out to be.

(( Right-o, Kari dear. <33 ))
Any 'dodginess' in his answer completely escaped the female; it was perfectly logical that they be looking over the paperwork before they finish discussing terms, though Kelasia was certain that Theofilus would not be underhanded and, well, shifty. She trusted him implicitly, which wasn't really out of her character, but this was likely the first time she ever had -reason- to trust someone.
"That sounds perfect," the skunk answered carefully, a small smile again on her lips as she thought of getting to spend the afternoon with the bird as well. Yes, this was turning into the best day of her life. With that she dipped into her soup with a little more relish, it was nicely cooled by now anyway, before asking a few more light-hearted questions about books. The best day of her life, indeed.
