Shinrai forced back an audible groan, whip-like tail twitching briefly in annoyance. Blast it freakin’ all; he had hoped it was simply his imagination that those dreadful voices had chimed nearby, but no. Freakin’ blast it, no. –Were- they stalking him?! Sometimes he would swear they were watching him for something…. But if it had been, to be crude, just a booty call, then why did they eye him with such speculation? Why did a quiver of fear scream through his whole body? No, his life would be –much- easier if the two would just disappear.
”Wot are you doing here?” the Jack tried to keep the animosity from his voice, but it was there in the underlying biting edge. His face remained neutral, however, though it was through sheer training all those years ago. It was obvious who of the group of males knew the newcomers; those who didn’t know him, though, likely couldn’t tell that this edge was personal compared to his earlier snappiness at Darrien for the slight regarding payment.

Mnemosyne turned her attention away from the other canine and onto Shinrai, who looks so very far from amused it was almost comical. She had very little interest in being antagonistic at the moment, though, not when they were in front of his charming companions, so Mnem merely smiled guilelessly and responded with all due politeness.
"It's good to see you again, too, darling," she said, as though puzzled by his obvious irritation. The stallion was not so adept at hiding his feelings--from Mnem, anyway. One didn't get very far in her line of work if one did not know how to discern intentions. "I was just tending to a bit of business--this is the district for it, after all--and Minh was keeping me company. I know what your friend is up to," she continued, nodding at the other canine,"but what, may I inquire, brings you to this part of town?"

That wasn’t wot he meant and she knew it, blast it. Why had she come up to him?! But he knew that answer, he just didn’t like it. Rai also knew that he would just make himself look worse if he couldn’t keep his temper in check. With his earlier surliness, it would be easy to write off the frustration in his voice as him simply being himself. Fine.
”Taking care of some business,” he retorted, letting her hear the sarcasm that bit the edges of his voice. He dropped his tone slightly, for her ears more than the others. ”Perhaps yours is even legal today.” An insinuation of things he didn’t yet know, but he was fairly certain about, Shinrai stared boldly towards the female canine.
It struck him again how well the two females matched each other; they weren’t identical by any means, but they complimented each other’s personality. Though, Rai doubted that was a good thing for the rest of the world.

Minh laughed quietly to herself and instigated herself a little farther into the group and conversation. Shinrai really had no idea. She supposed he was trying to be stoic and mysterious and masculine again, but really all it was serving to do was bait Mnemosyne. And Mnemosyne wasn’t the type to let that kind of thing go unpunished—if she didn’t strike back immediately you could bet she was watching from the shadows, bidding her time until the perfect opportunity for revenge presented itself, even if it was weeks or even months after the initial incident.
Shinrai really had no clue what he’d just gotten himself into, and she couldn’t pass the opportunity to take her own stab at him. He deserved it, really—he’d been such a difficult test subject.
Smirking, she turned to Shinrai and gave him her best leer, “Better be careful, Shinrai. With Mnemosyne that’s just about foreplay."
Mnemosyne was going to squash him someday, and she hoped she was there to watch.

Minh’s words jerked the stallion’s head around and he retreated back a few steps without realizing it. His grey-green eyes narrowed dangerously however, and he fought the urge to bare his teeth at the females. Yes, let’s all pretend to be civilized. He didn’t want to ever be around these females ever again. He wondered how likely it would be for him to get the other men going and away from Minh and Mnem. From Darrien’s expression, unlikely, but it was definitely worth a try.
”Come on, gentlemen. We have places to go.” Where was it the Selkies Lake canine wanted to go? Hornby Lake Construction. Unfortunately, the stallion had no idea where that might be. Wot did a construction company look like? Would they have a lot or just an office building? From the crowded buildings here it seemed likely to just be an office rather than the actual company lot. The horse began to search for some sign of how to find the company, wanting only to get out of the area.

Darrien just watched in awe at Mnem. Her name echoed in his head, how beautiful and charming it sounded coming from her lips. He knew that only her words and delicate features would produce the same effect and he was not sure if he wanted to ruin that memory with his own husky and thickly accented male vocals. He brought himself out of his own thoughts and as he listened to the equine and Mnem talk, not to mention the felines’ name that he had failed to catch once Mnem had opened her mouth and uttered her own name, he started to think that they had some kind of personal relationship. It would have been rude to try to get closer to her for a number of reasons. One being Tuuli and his unwanted commitment to her and the other would be the possibility of those two actually having a personal relationship. Yet, the way the equine was speaking to her was the one thing bothering him. He sounded a bit stand offish and well frankly quite rude. He was not one for starting fights at all but if this continued he did not know how much longer, he would be able to hold his tongue.
He turned to Mnem and her female companion, not wanting to leave her just yet. "Where was it you were heading to miss? Perhaps you would like to join us on your trek there?"[/b] His words were very polite and would have probably upset the equine even more

"And isn't that a coincidence," said Mnem easily. Shinrai looked far too much like he wanted to jump ship, and she just couldn't allow that. Not when this bunch could possibly lead her back into a profitable business, and not when they provided so many opportunities for entertainment. The cute Selkie Lakes canine, who was still staring openly at her, and tormenting Shinrai--it was too good to pass up.
"So are we. And I do believe we're headed the same direction." She managed to make herself look injured. "And if you don't mind me saying so, I believe it rather rude of you not to consult your companions. Perhaps they would like a few extra hands to help in the location process?"

”NO!” the response was startled out of the stallion by Darrien’s offer to the females. He sidestepped closer to the dog, hissing in a low, though still quite audible tone, ”Don’t invite them along with us!” Gads, they were freakin’ evil! Wot was this superstitious dog thinking?! Crushing on Mnem or not, and heaven help the poor creature if he was, the sheer wickedness of the pair was nearly palatable anytime EITHER of them spoke! His sarcasm was taken as flirting, for light’s sake!
He sent a narrowed, angry glance at the two women. They wouldn’t, not in the face of his obvious displeasure… Gads, wot was he thinking?! They’d come just because he didn’t want them to. Argh! He hated women sometimes! ”Surely,” he tried to control his tone through clenched teeth. ”Surely, your business will take you elsewhere today.” He tried to make it a question, a suggestion, even. Just… go… away….

Darrien opened his mouth to respond to the beautiful female when the equine’s sudden sharp screaming no rang out into the middle of the district. People stopped and looked at the group and Darrien suddenly snapped. How dare he speak to those women like this? What gave him the right and authority to do so? He turned and glared at the equine. He had enough of his attitude, “Sir, I may not know your name or why you treat these ladies as you currently are, but I suggest that you refrain from displaying such an unreasonable behavior in public. I personally see no reason what so ever that they cannot come with us. In fact I would be delighted if they would honor me with the pleasure of treating them to a meal.”[/b] He smiled in a crooked way, but it was far from displeasing, in fact, it was quite handsome.

”Call me Whip,” the horse snapped in desperate hopes of still sidetracking the canine from bringing Mnem and Minh along. ”You have no idea wot you’re messing with here; they’re not… they’re not NICE.” He was starting to sound hysterical. Rai looked skyward and tried to re-center himself and get his temper under control. He took a slow, deep breath before trying again. ”They are evil,” he enunciated each word as clearly as he could. He just hoped he wouldn’t have to explain that statement because he still wasn’t certain wot had happened and he couldn’t get it out of the pair of conniving females. Even if he could convince himself to try and ask. He would figure out some other way to find out.
He shot the females another dark glance as though daring them to disagree with his assessment. Of course, there was a large and exceedingly likely chance that they would simply lie and say they weren’t. Blast it all and Darrien would so just agree with them.
