Rosemary hesitated for only an instant. She hadn't expected her Mommy to offer her food first, but hey, what worked worked. Her tail wagged for a moment before she chomped down on the sweet sugary substance. Oh! Sugar! It was something she liked but Mommy and Daddy said "bad" with. Her tail was wagging furiously.
Kazifel reached down and ruffled Thyme's mane before offering her a piece of cake. Both Sage and Parsley perked up when they saw him bend over to give her something.
And so they had cake. Rosemary begged for more after she was finished with her piece. She was already bouncing in place. This was going to be an interesting evening. She could go longer than any of her siblings when it came to playing when filled with sugar.
The mixed wolf looked over at his Queen. "If you need any help with them, just call and I'll be here as soon as possible. Good luck, I'm off to do the dishes and some cleaning."
Then cooking and maybe he would be able to spend some time in his workshop.

The promise of a sugar-high Rosemary was one Femi looked on with both glee and horror, depending on how tired she was. The girl was fun to play with when she got wound up, but eventually everyone wore down and she just kept going. At least the squirrel could keep up with her today until she started to crash.
For three hours, she played and jumped and flopped and was gnawed in various places. Thyme and Rosemary happily shredded her ribbon in a game of tug-of-war, which neither of them won because the frayed, chewed on fabric broke and sent them both tumbling into hard objects. She had to go over and coo at them and sooth their bruises before they promptly forgot all about the pain in favor of more play-fighting. They were both so energetic all the time!
She didn't call for Kazifel and waited until he came up with a quick meal for the kids before tucking them in for the night.

When the children were sound asleep Kazifel ushered Femi downstairs. A meal just for the two of them where they didn't have to deal with children running around and making a mess of things.
He had lit a few candles around the dinner table, closed the drapes and had put some flowers on the table. The meal for the night was chicken cordon blue with a variety of fresh vegetables. Something that he was rather proud of coming up with in such a short amount of time. It was something different, and he wasn't sure if Femi would like this sort of thing.
"Something special for my someone special, just time for the two of us. Then you can play with your dolls I can be in my workshop for a while, and Alphonse won't be awake until a few more hours." He had finally got a hang of this whole parent thing.

Dinner for two with candle light and flowers. Femi's romantic side woke up fully as soon as she saw the set-up he had so painstakingly made for them. She put Mommy in a box, tucked away for a few hours until she needed to wake it back up again, and just enjoyed the evening with her husband.
She'd never had this dish before and assumed it was something he'd learned to cook when he still lived outside of the Wood. Some of the ingredients he'd picked up this time around had left her curious, not just the cake fixings. It had been a good amount to carry home, but with his Club ability to help, hadn't been nearly as bad as it might have been otherwise. When the children were older, they could help with the shopping and carrying. Then they would be able to buy more while they were out just because they actually had a means to carry it.
During dinner, she called him all sorts of wonderful things, as many as she could think of, and played with his furry feet under the table with her slightly more flexible rodent feet.

Kazifel couldn't have been happier. This was everything he had hoped for and then some. Alone time with Femi, a family, dinner by candle light and footsies. He never could have predicted this for himself. And was slightly disappointed when they both finished the meal.
They still had a few hours of alone time though. "If you don't mind I think I'm going to try to work on something in my workshop. It's been so long... I really need to try to get back on the horse.... so to speak." Why whenever he used that expression did he thing about his Aunt?
Picking up the dirty dishes he went to soak them in the sink. He could do the dishes in the morning or at some ungodly hour when one of the children decided to wake up.
For now Femi could play with her dolls and he could try to make a doll for the first time in.... ages.

"That sounds like a good idea for the evening," Femi agreed, standing on tiptoe to give him a kiss after dinner. "I haven't gotten to play with them for a few days now and they're probably getting quite lonely. I need to go convince them that I still love them too." Humming happily, she picked up a few of the dishes and followed him into the kitchen, then pet his arm before heading upstairs.
A quick peek into the kids' room revealed a groggy and not-quite-awake-yet Alphonse who hissed at the light coming in from the hallway when she opened the door. Before she closed it, she noticed Thyme sucking on one of Parsley's fur tufts in her sleep and had to fight to keep her giggle silent, not wanting to wake them up and ruin her chance to go play.
Inside her doll room, the little sanctuary she'd made for herself and her old friends, she got out a few brushes and settled to coddle some of her favorites.

He entered his workshop and stared at all of the tools and supplies. Where did he need to start? Well he needed to get organized for one. Why hadn't he put everything in its proper place? After a few minutes of reorganizing things he sat down on his workbench to actually work.
He had already drawn out several designs for wooden dolls that he could make. Eventually he would try for ceramic ones if he managed to get back into the swing of things. And of course if he could find the materials without paying an arm and a leg for them.
Shifting to his human form he began carving away the form. He had to stop after a few minutes. Why on earth was his hand shaking because of this? Was he really that miserable of a person that he was reminded of all those things from the past?
Was he really that broken?

It had never bothered Femi, the fact that some people thought she was crazy for treating her dolls as people. They just didn't understand. She'd come to accept that. The only person it really mattered from was Kazifel and he had never said anything bad about her spending time with her dolls, or holding conversations with them and hearing replies, or anything of the sort. He actually encouraged her to set aside time for them when the children were calm and they had a moment, something she appreciated more than she could have realized from the start.
The brush slowed as she turned thoughtful. When was the last time she had sat and brushed out Kazifel's hair like she'd used to? Maybe she should ask him if they could take a bath tomorrow in their human forms and if he would let her do that. The kids could eat each other for just a little while, couldn't they?

Kazifel cracked his knuckles. He needed to stop thinking about the horrible things. He needed to focus on making the doll. Mentally he smacked himself and continued to carve the head of the doll. It was going to take much more than an hour, of course, but he at least had to start on something.
Then he managed to cut himself. Cursing he threw the tool down and held his finger. Of course he would cut himself like an idiot if he was going to to think about various things while carving. Cursing again he grabbed the first aide kit as best as he could manage.
Why was he such an idiot sometimes? It didn't take long to bandage himself up. Hopefully that wouldn't leave a scar or effect his work. Muttering he went back to trying to crave. He had been a dollmaker.... but had all those years destroyed what talented he had?

Femi heard a curse coming from downstairs and blinked, looking at the door as if it would explain. When it didn't, she stood up and wandered down, heading towards Kazifel's workshop where she heard another curse. What was he doing? She peeked her head in and squeaked when she saw his hand with a bandage wrapped around it.
"Kazifel, love, do you need some help? I heard you upstairs..." Not waiting for an answer, she went in and held his hand to look at, as if she could see through the wrapping. Then she asked about the cut. It was a deep one, but hopefully it would heal well because it was such a clean slice.
She kissed his palm and gave him his hand back so that he could continue with what he'd been doing. "Sorry to just come in like that," she apologized with a small smile. "I love you and I can't wait to see what you're going to make now that you have a little bit more time to work on things now. Could your first doll be for me? Please?"
