(( A prequel RP! <3 Just want to establish this relationship before Rai goes to the Capital... )) He was an entrepreneur; he’d started early working hard as a tour guide through the beautiful Josiggy Marsh; no fears with this plucky equine as your guide! Flash a brilliant smile here. He could fake his way through almost anything. He continued to pack up wot they would need for the overnight trip. He nodded at his packs; really, all they now needed was their delivery and they would be good to go. Shinrai stretched his neck up into the air carefully, bracing his legs so he could stretch each one in turn. He briefly curled his head down to very gently bump the new rank mark on his chest; Jack. Finally. His ears flattened as determination swept over his features. The first step to tomorrow. The first big step, at least, to gaining the power he would need. His long tail flicked against his hind legs again and he turned to look out one of the front windows of his small cabin. Hopefully the delivery would arrive soon so he could try and check the trail again before the hikers arrived.

A personal delivery huh? Theofilus was far from thrilled as he was informed he was going to make a trip to the Marsh. His boss had asked him for a kind favor--this was one of the few established personal connections the man had. Still, the sparrow was far from thrilled as he stumbled his way around to find the cabin of his destination. His tour guide and companion was far from happy as she departed with a glare. It took him a good two hours and several wrong turns before he found the cozy place in plain sight. Good job there Theofilus, good job. He mentally smacked himself to get into the proper business mood. The delivery he dragged behind him was a good reminder--it had prevented him from flying around. He knocked on the door with his beak. The sparrow knew it was loud, and there was no way the client could miss it. He didn't wait for the door to open, he simply said, "Delivery!" when he stopped knocking. Wait... what on earth did the client look like?

Rai's ears swiveled backwards at the heavy knocking on the door followed by a shout. Someone was very eager to not be in the Marsh. Rai's teeth showed briefly in amusement , but the smile swiftly died away as he approached the door. That was for business, not personal use. His smiles were never personal anymore.
He clicked quietly to the door, the heavy rugs muffling the sounds of his movements; if anything he lived a rather paranoid life now. At least, he did here in the Marsh, even in his own home. After years of ranking up and looking for information, he still had no motive for the attack when he was young. He didn’t know why they’d chosen to attack the twins. His hide twitched before he could soothe it back away. No, no, get ready for more business.
He arranged his features swiftly into the easy-going smile, slipping into the façade quickly, then pulled open the door. ”May I help you?” he asked perkily as grey-green eyes swept the sparrow before him quickly.

"As a matter of fact you may. I've come from the West Lake Firm to deliver an order personally to Mister...Shinrai," Theofilus quickly looked over the equine standing before him. A jack, a heart, and obviously well put together. This explained a lot of why Theofilus was making such a private delivery.
"I apologize for my lateness, I got horribly lost. However--" The bird cleared his throat as he struggled with a second bag. "--I need you to sign a few papers to may confirmations."
This man was unusual, but then again Theofilus had never met an equine from Josiggy Marsh. Perhaps all of them had this strange air about them and lack of hair? Or perhaps his boss had sent him simply because he was a special client and probably some important connection.
Focus Theofilus. Focus. The bird mentally shook himself. He was in the middle of a business transaction with a client. A Jack. He couldn't help but feel slightly intimidated by the whole situation. But thankfully he could use all the charm at his disposal.

A Nine. Insignificant fact. Diamonds. Rai took a moment to take a deep, settling breath. After that initial gush of anger, however, he could push it away and keep the smile on his face almost fully natural.
”Well, welcome to the best Marsh in the lands. It’s easy to get lost here without a guide, but at least you can have a wonderful sightseeing time while you find yourself again.” His eyes went to the papers to skim swiftly. Everything appeared in good order, fortunately. He’d heard a lot of recommendations for West Lake Firm and it seemed they would easily live up to the praise.
He grabbed a pen from his nearby desk; the rooms were small and cozy, furniture sparse. It looked like a simple hunting cabin. Rai accepted the papers as well, skimming each paper once again before carefully signing the bottom. When he finished, he returned them to the bird. He was glad, however, that he had pre-paid for this delivery.
”So, wot do you think of the Marsh, Mr….?” No nametag to clue him in.

"Theofilus," the sparrow provided as he took back the papers. What was his opinion of the marsh? Well, that was a good question. "It's different than any place that I've been to before. I imagine if I wasn't in such a panic to deliver your order I would have been able to enjoy myself." He shrugged.
As Theofilus spoke he glanced around the cabin. Nothing particular fantastic about it, but an air of mystery seemed to hang over it. Or was it something akin to paranoia? Whatever it was he decided he would never bring up the subject.
"I suppose I should get going..." he hesitated. He was going to get lost again unless he found the girl to help him out. No, that was not a good situation to be in, not at all. The sparrow's feathers twitched in dismay. "Unless you have any questions about your order and such." He slipped back into his cheery mask of confidence like a glove, hopefully the equine wouldn't have noticed his dismay.

Elias looked up from his work at the sound of the loud rapping on his nicely painted door. Tourists just come and treat their office like they own the place, and who gets to paint the door and mend the chairs and pick up the mess? Old El, that's who, and not a word of thanks. Eh, it was a living. He walked up around the building from where he'd been going over his pack for this trip and saw one of those Selkies, a bird. He barely tried to stifle a groan looking at the suit and rank. Most Spades weren't too bad, but those Reds were always with the "Carry my pack, Club," "Do test the temperature of this obviously extremely hot water, Club," "Eat this tomato in one bite, Club." Then it wasn't too long until they were screaming, "Please stop this beast from eating my face, Club!" up until they get back to safety, then it was right back to the tomatos. Freakin' tomatos, what was with those people and tomatos? " Customer?" he grunted at Rai. He wasn't entirely pleased with Shinrai for leaving the family, but it would be good for him. Maybe he'd get some closure, or whatever it was that hack counselor said he needed. Needed to rub some Tough on it is what he needed to do, and he never hesitated to tell Rai that.

Rai’s ears flicked as his tail twitched against his hindlegs. It sounded as though Theofilus was on his way to hating the Marsh, and that was something the horse could not abide. One reason for his business was to encourage people to like Josiggy. More than the Lowlands. That wasn’t hard, but he wanted to help along the preferences in every way possible.
His ears twisted slightly to zero in on El as his partner/ coworker/ employee stepped up from the back of the building. ”Not yet,” the horse answered amiably. ”But maybe soon.” He gave a friendly wink at Theofilus.
”No questions about the delivery; I’m very impressed with your firm’s performance. It’s often difficult to get anything where it needs to be out here.” He smirked at Elias knowingly.
”Once we pack away this delivery, we have to check the trails, but we can show you how to get back to the main roads after that.” Dual-purposed reasoning here; perhaps they could encourage this bird to hop along with them for a bit.

Theofilus couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit of pride as the horse spoke highly of his firm. One day he would own it completely, and he would be able to take credit for his own ideas. That was along while off. "I'm happy you're satisfied with our services!"
He had nothing else to do in the Marsh. So why not ask to join them, since they did offer to lead him to the main road. He desperately needed those directions. "Is it too much to ask for you to lead the way out of here? I'm afraid I would be completely lost without any directions." The sparrow blushed slightly. Being lost was not his favorite thing to do, and now that he was in completely strange area it made things twice as bad.
Would a business man such as Shinrai be kind enough to escort him around? Would that be asking to much. It certainly felt like it.

"If it had been too much work," the horse said with a smile. "I wouldn't have offered." He thought about that for just a moment. "Or I would have told El to do it. Theofilus, this is Elias. He's one of our guides as well. Feel free to call me Whip." His work name.
Shinrai pulled the package across the room and opened it near the wall past the desk. In a moment he had expertly bound up a sheath of porcupine needles. He packed those away as well and glanced over his abode. Everything was in order. Normally one or the other would bring the hikers here and they would pack up and lead on from the cabins.
Today, it seemed, they would both meet the hikers in town. That was fine. He gave a small nod, and turned to the door. ”El, you ready?” Rai looked to the canine questioningly.
