When her brother started to go about crying and whining over whatever it was he had managed to do to himself this time, she did not bother to open an eye to see. There was always something he was going off and whining about. If he was seriously injured then Elyse was sure to call her attention to it.
Then suddenly her brother was going off about something ‘cool’. Well that sure did end the water works rather quickly. Not bothering to open her eyes to see what was going on, she shouted at him “Put that down, you do not know where it has been. Actually, you know what . . . I hope it gives you an awful infection.”
Her body was too relaxed to bother moving, unless something really important was happening. Since it seemed like it was not something she shifted her position some mumbling to herself, “Maybe that would it will give you an infection.”

Of course Ven was saying horrible things to him about wishing he would get infected and die horribly. She was just envious of his amazing find, but being prideful Ven (how he wished he had pride!), she could not admit it. Or she really genuinely hated his guts and wanted him to die. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes again, blurring his vision and burning a little bit, disappearing swiftly into his fur.
He didn't want to live in a world where his beloved twin did not love him. He wanted to go home. Today was stupid. He hated today.
He hauled the pretty token over to his twin and tried a new tactic. He said, with casual indifference, "You can have it, if you want, I guess. If you don't want it, I could always give it to Kare. I bet Kare would appreciate it."

Kare found Venka's reaction off-putting at best and downright cruel at worst. She didn't want to get in the water, but she would to support Vishne. Fortunately for her, however, he decided to wade back out of the lake and onto shore. She was relieved by this and accompanied the boy back towards his sister so she could at least try to support him that way.
At his pronouncement, she gave a very small nod of her head, as though agreeing, though she had no idea what she would do with a shell; pretty or not. The important thing, however, was getting Venka to understand that she'd be quite lucky to own the shiny thing her brother found.
Kare glanced back to check on Elyse as well. She wondered if the mouse would support the brother or the sister in this incident, or if she would even get involved at all.

Eylse simply starred at Venka for a moment before turning her attention back to Vishne and settling his fears. “Your twin is just being jealous," she told him with a firm nod of her head. “Of course that thing will not give you an infection and I should know, you know, cause I am going to grow up and be a healer."
Though her tone could not really be considered a haughty one, there was definitely a sense of confidence in it. Mostly in that she was sure she was going to become a healer when she grew up and that Vishne was going to be alright.
When the canine when to take the gift over to his sister she sat down and watched. She was not sure how Venka was going to react, hardly anyone knew how the female was going to truthfully. Each day seemed to have a new level her kindness was going to be and today seemed like it was a low one.

Though she would never admit it she was actually a little surprised when her brother made his way toward her. Because she had her eyes firmly closed against the sunlight she was surprised when he was suddenly next to her.
Covering it up with a sneer she glared at her brother. "What do you want?" She demanded. At her brother's comment she raised an eyebrow. The wussy pup had come to bring her a gift?
Not sure what to do with the situation, after all she had a reputation to keep up and her brother really could not start thinking that she liked him all that much she simply starred at it for a long moment.
"I do not understand your obsession with shiny things. Since I do not want to hurt your feelings," She snatched it from her brother. "Now if you guys have had enough of playing around we should head back before Daddy Rai notices that we are gone and we get in trouble."
With that she got up, flicked her tail, and headed back they way they had originally come.

He didn’t want to get into trouble, of course, and he was very happy that his twin had accepted his gift because it was pretty much tacit acknowledgement that she loved him more than anything else in the world ever. Or, at least, that was what he chose to believe. Maybe one day she would even go so far as to tell him he didn’t suck as much as she’d always said or something. Oh, what a day that would be! Glorious splendor. He could almost taste the joy.
So he tottered after his twin, even though he didn’t really wanna go back to Dad because Dad was mean (almost as mean as Mom, but that was different). He just wanted to go home. With Venka! Who loved him! And Kare and Elyse, who were nice! Maybe they would let him do chores for them. He smiled, a little dreamily.
