"Oh? A little adventure?" Ooo, risk...?
Anya, while being a little selfish and ridiculously attracted to powerful men, was not exactly a bad girl. She wasn't the sort to cheat in a relationship, not that she'd had any steady relationships in the past, and she'd never slept in a lover's friend's house while they were away.
Not to say she wasn't intrigued.
The thought had simply never been implied before and now, regardless of how hard she tried, she couldn't seem to wipe of the mischievous little grin that had slipped onto her beak. Zane really knew how to top the cake! Way to prove he wasn't a classic rule abiding Kahmden. Very nice.
Anya laughed softly as her smile widened and she moved to slide out of her chair. "Sure, let's go to your friend's house. A little guessing game sounds fun."

Zane gave a small inner cheer of absolute victor. He stood up and offered Anya his hand. "Shall we?"
--
Fun times were had. And they lasted for quite some time.
When all was said and done, and he had a little nap. He woke up more than ready to tackle what came next. Dinner. He knew that Ez had quite a few things in his kitchen that were "up for grabs."
Dinner for too. What could he make? He could at least set up some candles for the two of them to make it as romantic as possible. He grinned as he pulled one of the pans from the cupboard. It was a shame there was no seafood in the house... though that could have always been tricky.
Something quick and let delicious, he wandered over to the fridge. Chicken. Steak tips. Turkey. Chicken.... honey glaze might work with a bit of vegetable garnish? He pulled the chicken and vegetables out of the ice box. He'd find out.

Anya woke with a pleasant sigh, casually untangling herself from a comfy tangle of blankets. Next to her lay two blue banders who had decided to claim the bed in absence of her previous companion who, from the smell of the house, was somewhere in the kitchen.
For a moment she remained in bed, taking in the scents and musing over what she'd so innocently stumbled over. The checklist for 'perfect man' was surprisingly full when appraising Zane, which just seemed far too good to be true. No, no... She would never forgive herself if she sabotaged this.
No matter what, she just had to make sure he didn't escape her now that she had him in her clutches.
Sliding out of bed, the quetzal left her coat where she'd discarded it and moved quietly out into the kitchen where the aromas of cooking food grew increasingly stronger. That he was cooking was one plus, but the fact that it smelt delicious was a considerably more impressive one.
"Mm, I've really stumbled on a gold mine... A man that cooks dinner is just too rare." Anya smiled as she gave him a playful peck on the cheek before slipping past to lean on a section of counter that would not wind up with her under his feet.

He glanced up from his cooking with a grin as she entered the kitchen. When she made the remark and closed the gap between them he couldn't help but chuckle. He watched as she leaned on the counter. Oh she was just so pretty....
"I suppose I just picked it up since I had to take care of my little brother for a while." He poked at the chicken with a fork testing to see how long it was going to take. A while, which was expected. "And you know, I remember how horrible of a cook my father was when we were younger so I decided that I needed to learn how to cook. Save the world from a cornucopia of burnt meals."
He reached over, ignoring the food for a few moments. He gave her a light and playful nip. "And of course cooking for a lovely lady like you makes the skill worth having."

Anya smiled. Responsible, intelligent, sweet, sexy, family man. You really couldn't get any better with this, huh? Except that he might be some sort of perverse alcoholic or an overly arrogant workaholic once you got to know him.
Oh well, it was a chance she was willing to take.
"Fathers are notorious for their horrendous cooking." Her father never stepped foot in the kitchen, ever. Anya herself was only mildly accomplished. "And, between you and me, at least one of us should know how to cook well." The quetzal giggled softly at the little peck of a kiss and slid in more closely to return the affection.
If he could offer kisses and cook, then she probably wouldn't be underfoot... even if she might be a bit of a distraction in the end.
Slowly she slid an arm around his waist, pressing against him as she did. "I'm terribly lucky... A good lucking man that can cook doesn't show up everyday." Not even His Majesty Theofilus had sprung to make an "after sex dinner".

"You know," Zane said quietly as he wrapped his arms around her. "I don't think it's luck after a certain point. I would like to think of it as fate. Maybe we were meant to meet each other."
He would have lingered longer if the water hadn't boiled over for the pasta. The sparrow gave an alarmed chirp as he rushed to shut the stove under the pot off. The water bubbled for a few moments more before he could glance to see if everything was all right. He gave a small sigh of relief when he was sure that the bottom of the pot hadn't burned.
She snorted and grabbed the pasta from the counter. Once it was in he flicked the stove back on, this time setting it to low. He gave Anya a goofy smile. "Well. Crisis is avoided and dinner should be ready fairly soon."

Anya found a surprised blush dance onto her cheeks. Fate, hm? She leaned back into the contact, cooing briefly before Zane chirped in alarm and ducked to attend to the stove. Oops. With a little giggle, Anya shifted back out of the way to return to her proper position as a fetching kitchen attraction instead of a lovely distraction until he could get everything sorted out with his frantically bubbling pot.
The goofy all's-well smile had Anya returning the silliness and she scooted in once more. "I'm looking forward to sampling your cooking... and maybe having a little desert." The Highlander winked playfully before giving Zane a little peck on the cheek.
Too cute, too perfect.
Maybe this really was fate. If so, she'd really lucked out this time. And Momma had always told her she couldn't have everything she wanted. Ha! She'd show Mother how wrong she was when she brought home Zane!

He grinned. Well. Desert sounded like a fantastic idea.
The sparrow couldn't help but hum cheerfully as everything finished. It didn't take him long to set up the plates of food, along with the candles for the romantic little setup.
Today was a good day.
---
Zane had had another day off. Taking breaks wasn't his favorite thing to do, but after staring at nothing but numbers he needed the more frequently than he would have liked to admit. And he continued to bounce between the courts and the shipping firm. There was nothing else he could do after all, they needed him ever since Dad was taking less work and the interns found other jobs. Then again they weren't allowed to touch the important stuff in the first place.
He sighed as he snuggled up next to his sleeping bander. Maybe a nap was a good idea?
The thought of Anya floated into his head. He gave a small happy sigh before turning over to sleep,

Anya had never been so uncertain in all her life.
She'd never been pregnant either.
The Highlander was still having trouble wrapping her mind around the thought. What was she supposed to do with a baby? She was young still, too young, and in the middle of taking over Daddy's business.
How could a new mother handle a pack of banders and a newborn?
How was she supposed to handle being a mother?!
Yet, despite the shock, she was a grown woman. She could take on the responsibility if she wanted to... or, rather, if Zane wanted to. She wouldn't do this alone but... but if Zane wanted to do it, to be there with her... Well, then maybe she would choose a family over a career with Banders. She could temporarily give them up for a husband and a child.
Dad wouldn't be happy but, really, this wasn't about Daddy anymore.
And so Anya found herself on Zane's doorstep, knocking with a nervous sort of urgency and hoping with all her might that he'd take the news well.

Zane jerked awake when he heard a knock on his door. What on earth was that? He glanced at the clock. He hadn't even been asleep for five minutes. Begrudgingly he slipped out of bed.
Nila suddenly hopped to her feet and scurried to the front door. Scratching at it until Zane and brushed her to the side. A smile was on his face as he opened the door, holding the bander back with one of his feet. He winced a bit when she attempted to chew on it.
"Anya!" He exclaimed before he digested the look on her face. His smile faltered briefly. Anya looked out of sorts. She never looked out of sorts. He couldn't help but worry that something bad had happened. He thrust Nila to the side and opened the door to allow the woman in. "Is something wrong, Anya? I didn't think you were coming over today. Didn't you have plans with your Father?"
Nila made a whining sound as she peaked around the door. The pretty lady was here! Maybe she would give her treats?
