She truly loathed her job. Every minute of having to serve that stupid Duck and cater to his every whim...watching him hoard his money like a miser, and even sometimes swim in it like it was his own private, golden swimming pool. Having briefly been on the streets, without anything, without even one copper to her name, his attitude just made her sick. Never mind that he had earned every last piece with his own hard work. He was still a pompous ass.
Even if he'd taken her in, he knew he hadn't done it out of the kindness of his heart. He'd done it to get something out of her. And he truly deserved the nickname Scrooge which those Cards who wren't fond of him had given him.
But in response to Sabe, other than a slight twitch that settled quickly into a dreamy smile, she gave no indication of any of this. "Well, your job is far more important than mine...imagine being a titled Queen!" she tittered, eyes shining with what could pass for admiration. "Yes, it is good to like one's job." And she hated hers. Someday that would change...
And now he expected her to come up with some stupid subject for them to banter over? What, did his brains all turn to mush from all the paper work? Sigh, time to play nice. "Actually...I don't know much about the banquet, other than its location and the fact we ran into one of the cooks." Literally. "So can you perhaps tell me something more about that?" She feigned an interested expression.
--
Meanwhile, Graeme was clean to his satisfaction, and he stepped out of the bath, drying his hair with a towel before shifting to Biped form again. After all, his feathers would dry quite nicely on their own. That was a great advantage to being a Duck.

Sabe may be a heron, but his eyes didn't miss much. He had spotted the slight twitch but he paid it little mind. It was ok for others to do as they pleased and keep their own secrets. So he turned back to her and just smiled back at the mention of his job. Yes it was a important job, though he couldn't state that anyones job was more important than another.
"Yes. I may have a nice job, but it dosen't mean that its more important than yours." he stated as he took up his glass again. "If you didn't keep up with Mr. McDuct A.K.A. Scrooge, then he wouldn't be one of the largest lenders in the realms, thus even the courts couldn't even borrow money from the rates that he had set down." he stated as he shook his glass in the air for the waiter to bring a fresh cup.
His gaze never left her during this whole time, "So with that said, I'm happy that you attend him, else I don't belive that he would even be around, thus many large firms and business could fall through due to him not being around. So in truth, your the reason that his business does so well." he said with a smile as he held up his glass, "Cheears!"
Yea his job wasn't really all that important as of now. He mostly just delt with finances and minor affairs within the courts. It was hard being the lowest one on the pole. Though it was ok really, he could work his way up and understand the political aspects of the courts, not to mention the relations between them and everyone else. It was all tiresome really, having to know individuals instead of knowing about them.
"Its about economics in the Capital City..." he said rather dryly.

((lol, sorry Mrs. White is such a crazy little Tulgey. XD;; *patpats Sabe* ))
Mrs. White listened to Sabe's long winded explanation of why her job was just as important as his and blah blah blah. Wow did he like the sound of his own voice. But she smiled politely, though she raised a slight eyebrow when he used Scrooge's rather dishonorable nickname. Part of her liked him better after that, and part of her wished that the old Duck himself had been around to hear it.
Of course, she thought Sabe's words were a bit ridiculous. Crazy she may be, but even she knew her own importance to Scrooge: replaceable. He hadn't worked his way up from nothing to be one of the richest Ducks in the Highlands by relying too heavily on any one person. Still, Sabe's opinion was quite flattering...to her at least. It painted a less than flattering image of her employer, and for that she was actually starting to respect the Queen a bit more. Too bad he was still a Club. And a Bird. And a Khamden.
But she merely laughed and gave him a shining look. "Oh, Your Majesty, you flatter me!" she exclaimed with a flick of her paw. "I do hope Mr. McDuck doesn't hear you talking quite like that." Nodding to his toast, she brought her own glass up to touch briefly to his, and then sipped it delicately. Mmm. Not bad. This was certainly a high class place.
"Ah, sounds simply riveting," she said dryly as he explained the banquet. "At least Mr. McDuck should enjoy it, then. But does that mean you're not here out of choice?" She could play at pleasant conversation with the best of them, despite the fact that inwardly she was groaning at having to listen to the endless blathering of far too many suits. Maybe someone would get drunk off their ass and start a brawl? Unlikely at a place like this, but hey, at least it would be interesting.
---
Making his way down to the lobby again, looking crisp and clean and much more like himself, Graeme McDuck frowned when there was no sign of his maid. So clearing his throat, he asked a passing clerk. "Excuse me, have you seen a Tulgey Feline pass this way? Eight of Hearts, very fluffy."
"Oh! Yes, she went to get a drink with Queen Sabe from the Court of Clubs, McDuck, sir," the attendant said with a bow.
"Ah, thank you kindly!" Graeme said, tipping his top hat to the Canine, but as soon as his back was turned a frown came on his bill. What the blazes was his maid doing having a drink with the titled Court member? Well, there was nothing for it. He'd have to go find them.
So, head held high and trusty cane at his side, McDuck made his way into the dining room to look for the pair.

Yes Sabe hopped that no one heard of it either. It would be bad for Mr. McDuck to over hear what they were talking about, knowing full well that he could probably wreck his whole life in an instant. It was ok though, he knew that the court would probably take care of a situation if it occurred. Though he didn't mind it though, he always spoke his mind.
Sabe would frown some what at what she said though, "I just received the invitation this morning, even though this banquet was scheduled for the past month." he said with a shrug knowing of all the paper work that would be sitting on the desk when he got back. He issued a inward grown at that mere thought.
He was about to speak once again, but spotted the highlander Duck start on his way over, and it appeared that he wasn't all that pleased. Sabe stood up setting his glass down at the table and meet the duck half way.
" So nice of you to join us Mr. McDuck!" he said as he switched his own cane to the other side of him so that he could extend his hand in shaking. A large smile would be placed on his face as he was egaer to get away as soon as possible. "I hope that your refreshing wasn't so much of a bother, I do find this hotel rather dull." he said trying to appeal to the man in a way that rich people usually did.

Oh, if Mrs. White could only hear what Sabe was thinking! It would have amused her so, and made her only wish that it were true. If something so normal could spiral McDuck's business into collapsing...why, she would be taking steps to be sure all of the Highlands heard whatever secret it was that would bring his fall, and it would spread like wildfire too! Alas, the Duck kept few skeletons in his closet that she had ever found, and was really just that intelligent and good of a businessman that little could seriously ruffle his feathers for long.
"Ah, I see...that must have caught you by surprise," the Feline said sympathetically, inwardly scoffing at both the incompetence of Court officials and whatever coordinator had been in charge of this banquet. If you don't know who's at fault, blame everyone!
But then her furry ears twitched, catching the unmistakable sound of a Duck's webbed footfalls upon th hotel's floor. Oh, yes...NOW things were going to get interesting. But she turned toward her employer with a smile, revealing none of the flash of hatred she always felt when she saw him. "Welcome back, Mr. McDuck," she said primly, gesturing to the seat beside her with a black-tipped paw.
The bright coloration of the Heron and the pure white of the Feline meant that Graeme spotted them quickly, and made his way over, the somewhat unsettled expression on his face instantly vanishing and being replaced with his best business smile, a look it had taken him years to perfect, as the Duck had a tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve if he didn't work hard at hiding his emotions.
"Why, it is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty," he said, taking Sabe's hand in a firm shake and not giving away any of his anxiety and displeasure at having to deal with someone else from the Courts. He took a seat beside his maid, but the next statement of the Heron caused his forehead to scrunch a bit in confusion. "Dull? You think so? It doesn't seem like too bad a place to me," Graeme said with a shrug. "The rooms are certainly well-furnished with all the modern conveniences. Though I suppose it's not much compared with a royal palace." He managed to keep the statement entirely neutral, none of the bite that he could have added seeping in. Pompous Court officials. And people called -him- elitist!
Just met, and already sparks were flying! Mrs. White couldn't be more gleeful about this, though she kept that to herself. Instead, she merely sipped at her drink, content to watch for now, and pretend she couldn't see the tension boiling underneath the niceties.

Sabe didn't take any offense to what was said or done during this but instead took his seat and waved the waitress over to serve Mr. McDuck whatever would tickle his fancy. He would then turn his eyes back on the man before him and his maid. He gave one of those smiles that he had been working on for quite some time being in the mail business having to tell people that things were going to be just all right when you know full well that the letter in your hand was going to take their home and their life.
"I meant dull in another fashion, the modern conveniences and the niceness of this place is just too much for a simple card like myself." he said as he lifted his glass to his beak and took a few sips, "Though this place is much more furnished than that of my offices, though I do love to keep it simple." he said with a smile, for he was a Kahmden after all.
Sabe would look up at Mr. McDuck and waited for some sort of response that he could get from him.

As the waitress came over, Graeme turned to her, the forced smile still on his bill as he asked politely if they had any tea. He really, really wasn't a drinker. Alcohol dulled the senses and lowered the inhibitions too much, and the Duck never saw any reason to subject himself to that. Not when it was an acquired taste anyway. He liked to keep his wits about him, always sharp and ready for whatever might come his way. The most he'd ever had was the occasional glass of champaign when it was socially necessary.
Graeme let confusion slide onto his features at Sabe's correction. Dull in what fashion, exactly, then? "If you're referring to the company, then I have to say I still disagree," he said mildly, a smile to soften the blow of the words, if indeed the Heron was likely to take offense. And since Graeme considered himself a fair man, he was ready to rethink his snap judgments on the Queen sitting across from him. If, despite being a member of the Courts, he liked to keep it simple, well, he could hardly begrudge the Heron that. And it wasn't like his own mansion wasn't fairly nicely done up. It just rubbed him the wrong way when royalty lorded it over those who weren't. Which apparently hadn't been what Sabe was doing. Fair enough.
"So how long have you held your position?" he asked instead, deciding a subject change might be in order, in case Sabe -was- getting bored.
Mrs. White didn't let the flash of disappointment show when the two Avians seemed to realize the misunderstanding. Aww. She'd been hoping for a fight to spice things up. Not a physical or magical one, no, she sadly knew McDuck was far too wise to attempt to take on a Queen and she knew Sabe would most likely not want to challenge a business man whose position he held in such apparent high regard, in any event. But she'd at least been hoping for a nice verbal spar.
Sipping at her drink in silence for now, she looked for an opportunity to subtly change the subject to something a bit less dry and normal and a bit more...controversial.

Sabe wasn't one of those people that enjoyed long talks about politics or even the other occasional things that would be considered proper. Sabe was one of those guys that enjoyed having a good time, and was just realizing in the past few months that his job had nothing to do with "having a good time". It was ok, he could shoot the shit with just about anyone and this was going to be a test really for him in the first place.
"Well Mr. McDuck, I have only earned my position a few months ago, so I'm rather new to this whole politicking and all." he said with a mild shrug as he finished the rest of his ale and placed the cup back down on the table. He was lucky enough that he used to drink rather often, else he would be swimming with elephants right now. He waved away the waiter that was going to refill it and looked back to the two before him.
"I just found out about the whole banquet this morning, I guess that the other Queens and Attending didn't have time or the will to do so." he said with another small shrug as he leaned back in his seat a bit. He wasn't at all used to the trappings of being a ranked queen. Nor did he have the niceties that he should have learned. He was considered rather blunt at times, and inconsiderate.
---
Menefer came bounding out of the kitchen chasing someone away. He had a smock on and a chefs cap as he had one of the fierce faces that made many people back away. He glared at the mouse that he had chased out pointing a paw at him.
"YOU Sir will never working in my kitchen or another s for the remainder of your life!" he said as he swiped off the others cap. "If you can't even make a simple clam chouder then you can't even consider yourself a cook. Not to mention that you nearly would have made the whole banquet sick for two weeks with that concoction that you poured in it! You never mix tiger lily and bee's wax! Not to mention! BEE'S WAX? What 'ere you thinking!"
after a few more curses did the mouse rush out of the hotel crying the whole way. Menefer would close his eyes for a second and then open them glancing at all the people around him. He spotted Mr. McDuck right away and smiled. He would walk up to the trio? Who was the bird? Oh well.
"Ok Sorry bout that, what would ye like for lunch?" he asked as he sat on his haunches on the floor waiting patiently.

"Oh, well I hope Court life is treating you well, then," Graeme said, rather pleasantly considering. He himself had no idea why anyone would want that life, not when they could go into business and have no one to report to but themselves. It also, he found, resulted in far fewer attempts on one's life. Though there were many robbery attempts. But those were stories for another time, although there were some that Graeme certainly enjoyed telling.
"If I may ask, what did you do before you joined the Courts?" Because it was starting to prickle in the back of his mind, some memory that sluggishly responded to hearing Sabe's name. Was it possible he'd heard of this Heron before?
Mrs. White finished the last of her drink, trying to refrain from sighing, though her fluffy ears drooped slightly. Bored bored bored...when would something interesting...
Both Feline and Duck turned quickly at the sound of the door banging open, which was hardly surprising, as every occupant of the room also turned. Mrs. White was secretly delighted. Finally, something interesting was happening! Because no matter how sumptuous the feast or luxurious the accommodations, she could only endure such dull conversation for so long before wanting to rip someone's throat out...just to spice things up.
And a near accidental poisoning? Oh, now that was even better! She'd have to remember that one...Tiger Lily and beeswax. She looked at Menefer as he walked over, pink eyes wide with alarm, but some deeper emotion burning within them. "Oh my, what a scene!" she said in a tone of voice that clearly showed her shock, and carefully hid her delight. "It's so hard to find good help these days, wouldn't you agree Menefer?"
Graeme shook his head, trying to recover from the spectacle as he accepted the tea that the waitress had just brought him. "Always a pity," he muttered, having had to fire several incompetent workers himself in his day. But he turned to smile at Menefer. Well! Maybe they could still gracefully depart after lunch and not stay for this banquet after all, though with the reception Graeme had gotten with the hotel staff it may have been a vain hope.
"I don't know...surprise me. Chef's special," he said, bill splitting into a grin.
Mrs. White raised an eyebrow at McDuck, privately wishing he was getting that mouse's special instead. Oh, the lovely misery he'd be in for two weeks, sick, unable to work, maybe even unable to visit his money bin!...though then she thought of how she'd be the one taking care of him, and she stopped wishing for such things. "We like soup," she prompted sweetly.

Sabe just watched the scene that had unfolded and even blinked at what the cat had told the mouse. He wanted to say something but instead decided that it wasn't his place to do so and thus kept his mouth shut about the whole ordeal. Sabe was lucky though that he hadn't had a attempt on his life just yet from someone wanting to take his place or just to kill him to kill em.
Sabe turned to the two and Smiled, "Well I ran Sabes Safe Transport, fastest mail carrier in all the realms and the safest to boot." he said with a large pleased smile. It wasn't often that someone would ask about his previous life and what he did, he just hoped that Mr. McDuck wasn't old competition.
Menefer would laugh at the Felines words, something odd about most Torques. Menefer was all smiles now and nodded when Mr. McDuck said that he wanted the Chef's Special. HE would have to think of something then... technically his specialty was camp fire cooking of fish and meats. He would find something for him to eat.
"So Mrs. White, would you like some clam chowder or split pea soup?" he asked as he looked to the Heron who he didn't really want to bother with. Sabe just shook his head no that he didn't want anything.
