Graeme barely seemed to hear what Sabe was saying to him. He was staring at the table without really seeing it, feeling cold, numb horror fighting to get past the warm fuzzy complacency that the drink was trying to lull him into. He nodded, stiffly, and then turned to look at the Heron, gold-orange eyes dulled from their usual sharp intelligence. In shaking hands, Graeme picked up the wine glass, and the mad urge came to him to hurl it against the wall...but he resisted that particular feeling, instead just setting it as far from him on the table as possible, and then looking away from it.
The Duck looked up at Sabe almost plaintively as he went on to talk about Jokers and a visit to a Court. Oh no, oh no...what possible interest could Sabe have in Rabbits, anyway? They had few dealings with Cards at all, and so did not usually affect the Courts. (Except, if legends were to be believed, for the White Rabbit, but that...well.) He didn't trust himself to speak, but he had to say something.
Trying to focus on the hazy image of the Queen in front of him, he spoke, tone a bit harsher than he probably intended. "I'm not sure that's necessary. Why do we need to spend time further discussing something like that?" No, he'd said enough already. Blinking, realizing that was a bit harsh...he quickly rushed to amend himself. "That is to say, if Your Majesty wishes to discuss Rabbits or Jokers or other such 'mythical' creatures with one such as myself, I will of course attend Your Majesty's wishes..."
Hopefully he'd get a chance to sober up first.

Mrs. White, for all that she hated McDuck...would only leave his employ at a time and in a manner of her own choosing. Of that, she was certain. And while she was enjoying this game with Menefer, leading him on and taunting him with thoughts of something that could certainly never work, she wasn't prepared to keep up that act long term.
But then, perhaps it was time the Feline bit off something bigger than she could chew.
She had finished the sauce and tasted it, finding to be to her satisfaction, and was just about to get started making some sort of dessert when she heard someone approaching her. Someone who bumped into a table. A slow, cruel smile spread over her face, which she turned into a sweet, innocent look before turning gracefully around to see the blushing Menefer.
"Oh, well of course you may! I came here to serve you, after all." And let him read into those words what he would. "Lead the way." Well, this might get...interesting. How far would she have to go to keep up this act, though? Hopefully not -that- far, ugh.

Sabe would just smile at his comment and know full well that the coffee was on the way soon. This wasn't something that could wait that much, he needed to be sober and quick before people really believed that he was crazy because of the people around right now could start rumors. Though, he could simply deny it and walk away from the situation claiming that he was just checking on someone of note and see if they were sane.
Though... rabbits... if they were real he would have quite the advantage, especially if he could set something up to meet with many of them and gain more information on them. It would be something quite worthy to look into... though finding them would be rather difficult.
He would clear his throat as the waitress came with two cups of steaming coffee and some sugar and cream. He would quickly pour him some and add his sugar and cream to his liking before speaking to the other...
"So... Mr. McDuck, I would like you to come to the Court of Clubs to meet me on a latter date to discuss things of note and importance." he said as he took a sip of his coffee.
----
Menefer was smiling from ear to ear as she spoke and then hopped down from the bench and lead the way to a quite corner that held meats and cold things. He would smile some as he looked for the words that he was trying to grip on... though once he got it did he smile more sure of himself and look her dead on.
"I'm going to tell you the truth... I may try to become employed in Mr. McDucks care for food services, so that I can be closer to you... I have a something... umm... I'm obsessed with the mere thought of love and all that is attached to it... and truth be told... out of all the people I have ever met, have I never met someone like you... I... I... umm... would like to ask you out on a date?" he blurted out the last bit his face turning away as he could feel his face heating up something serious.

Graeme forced himself to calm down. It was just one glass of wine, and he was most certainly overreacting to the entire situation. He hadn't said anything, yet, that would really get him in trouble. After all, it was all right for a business man to appear eccentric, and there were a good number of Cards that thought about him that way already. It was only if he talked loudly about actually -seeing- a Rabbit that people would start to think he'd gone crazy. Mere speculation on their existence wouldn't get him in any sort of trouble he couldn't talk his way out of. The thought was reassuring, though his head still felt decidedly fuzzy, and when he looked back up at Sabe from the table, he was perfectly composed. His grip on the table still spoke of anxiety, though...mainly about the fact Sabe wanted him to pay a visit to the Court of Clubs.
"Of course, Your Majesty," he said, briskly and businesslike to cover any undertone of worry in his voice. "I simply need to check my schedule and see when I have the time for such a trip. You understand, I'm sure, how busy one can sometimes get!" And at least it would give the Duck time to plan carefully what he should or shouldn't say...and perhaps for Sabe to forget about it, although that wasn't likely and he had to scoff inwardly at himself for such a cowardly hope.
The server came out with coffee, which...Graeme only drank by necessity, much preferring tea. But in this case, it -would- help him sober up, so he braced himself and, after dumping in a generous amount of cream, took a gulp of the hot drink.
---
Mrs. White thought she knew about what Menefer was going to say, but...he actually managed to surprise her. He spoke of love, of really wanting to find it...it was rather...quaint. Almost cute. Almost. But he really wasn't her type at all. A Spade, a Torque, naive and silly.
"Oh," she said, working up a blush and looking meek and young. "Oh, Menefer, I..." She didn't want him at McDuck's manor. Too many complications. One date wouldn't be a problem, and getting someone to fall in love so she could break their heart would be utterly delightful, but...perhaps a bit too...unsafe at this point. So time to play the 'bleeding heart' card. She worked up some tears, looking distressed.
"I...I wish I could give you that, Menefer, dear," she whispered, seeking out his eyes. "I...I just don't know if I could ever feel love again, not after..." She choked back a sob, inwardly amused. She hadn't lost it. Her performance was going smoothly. "I'm sorry...you're a lovely person, a lovely cook, but I..." Another sob, her face tearfully buried in her paws, ears back. Yes, yes...-perfect-. Part of her might have felt bad about all this, but most of her was secretly singing with glee.

Sabe would give the highland duck a nod before taking another sip of his coffee, strait black with just a bit of cream. He didn't like the taste half of the time of coffee, but it was sometimes useful to get your head out of the gutter when it came to being drunk. So he would tolerate the taste of it once again so that they could tolerate each other at this time.
Sabe would watch as he noted that the other was starting to get irritated or something along those lines. He knew full well that there was much that he could learn from this card, many things that would prove quite useful. Suits, he might just get one of his best people persons on this. Someone that could get information out of someone without them even knowing it. He smiled at the thought but knew that it wasn't something that he really wanted to do in the first place. So he would try to just make friends with this one and earn that information.
He would clear his throat as he looked at his hand that was covered in a bit of blood from where he had shattered the glass. He would then look back up at the other as he leaned back into the seat. "So my friend, how did you come by such a nice servant?"
----
Menefer didn't really know what to say or do. He looked over his shoulder to make no one was watching and pulled her closer to him so that he could wrap a paw around her shoulders and pat her back some. He didn't know what to do at the moment and knew that something had to happen in her past that would have affected her in this way. He was after all a bleeding heart and always went out of his way to try to fix things if he could, and sometimes end up being the brunt of anger from those people, but so long as things were all right in the end would he not care... though it did hurt.
"Mrs. White... I... Its going to be ok. Everything will." he said trying to sooth her in some way. His paw starting a small rotation on her back some. He wasn't trying to get physical with her, but just tried to let her know that he was here for her if needed...
Suits he hated this... always being the friend but never the lover, and right now she needed a friend to talk to... not someone to use crappy pick up lines one.

Graeme was grateful for the brief moment of silence in which to gather his thoughts and choke down the coffee. He wasn't much impressed by the taste of the hot beverage, but he could already feel his head beginning to clear, and for that he was grateful. Sighing out, the Duck closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair, relieved when the world didn't spin...much.
His eyes shot open at the question and he looked curiously at Sabe. "Well...the same way anyone might. I put an ad in all the major Capital newspapers." He grinned pleasantly and leaned forward, steepling his hands on the table. "I got quite a few responses, and it took three days to interview them all. I only hired about ten of them, and Mrs. White made the cut because she was polite, not overly chatty, and did the tasks I placed before her efficeintly and without complaint."
Of course, McDuck didn't know that inwardly, his maid had already been seething at him, nurturing seeds of bitterness that would turn into the hate she bore him today, which he was also completely oblivious too. She was a very good actress.
---
Mrs. White started slightly when Menefer pulled her into some approximation of a hug, but she covered this motion up with a loud sob. Actually, this isn't so bad, part of her mind thought of the closeness. Speak for yourself, I'm dying here, snapped the other part of her mind. Outwardly, she just kept sobbing, shoulders shaking with the force of them. At his words, she looked up, pink eyes large and shining with tears.
"It...it will?" she asked quietly, while inwardly she sneered. Menefer had no idea of what he was speaking. And this close to him, she could -smell- the hormones on him, tell that he really wanted something more than this, and she triumphed in giving him a tantalizingly close view of what he could have...while keeping it unreachable.
"Oh Menefer...I'm so sorry!" she wailed, and part of her really meant it. She buried her fluffy head in his chest, more tears coming forth. This is just too good.

Sabe sat at the table now wondering what he would do if he ever met a rabbit... one he would have to think that he would disprove the whole thing and say that it was stuff of legend, and the other part of him wondering if he wasn't seeing anything. It was ok... he might stay sane afterward. Though, it would be rather nice to meet one and figure out how they have stayed hidden for so long without the general populace finding out about them.
He leaned on the table a bit and thought about his words. It would be nice to have a lackey around to do most of his things that needed to be done. So he might as well put in a add in the paper for one. All things considered, having someone around wasn't a bad idea.
"So Mr. Mcduck, What do you like to do when not making money?" he asked knowing about the Highlanders love of the shinny stuff.
----
Menefer didn't quite know what to do. Yes he did want her in many ways, one being something that he had never tried before, and another was just companionship.
"Yes... It will be ok... don't fret, you have a friend in me if you ever need someone around." he said as he thought about what he really wanted. At this rate he would be alone for the rest of his life and still a virgin.

Graeme was very glad that the topic of Rabbits had been dropped. Normally, he wouldn't have thought much of speaking about them (mostly hypothetically, of course) and he enjoyed watching other Cards' reactions to the very idea they might exist. Some of them got so touchy! But this was a situation and a place where he was out of his normal swimming pool, so to speak, and so he had to be careful until he knew how deep the water was. Especially when the Courts were involved.
Part of him almost hoped he had dreamed up the whole conversation as a side effect of the wine, but he knew that was just silly wishful thinking. He hadn't been nearly that drunk. At the new question, a smirk settled itself onto the Duck's bill.
"Find other ways to make money, of course! Or else clever ways to save it." Knowing this wasn't quite the response Sabe was looking for, Graeme leaned back comfortably in his chair and waved a hand flippantly in the air. "Then there's always counting me money, swimming in it, enjoying the benefits of my hard-earned money...but when I really want a chance of pace..." He glanced around, gold-orange eyes shining, then put a hand to the side of his bill to whisper in a conspiratory way (though it was no secret to those that knew him), "I go on an adventure. Usually the expedition or quest would also have a way to turn a profit...but I've been known to get a bit restless at times and chase what others might call legends that couldn't possibly have any truth to them." He lowered his hand, now positively grinning (apparently enjoying talking about this). "You'd be surprised how often they turn out to be true anyway."
---
The sobbing continued for several minutes, though it turned into nothing but crocodile tears before then, as even the Feline's 'good' side assuaged her guilt and was just enjoying being held like this. Finally, the tears and shaking slowed, and Mrs. White slowly lifted her head to meet Menefer's eyes with her own red-rimmed ones. "T-t-thank you, Menefer...you have no idea what that m-means to me..."
It means absolutely nothing! HA! Slowly, Mrs. White leaned forward and gave a single lick upon the other Feline's cheek, scratchy tongue surprisingly gentle. "Perhaps we should...get back to cooking? I...I'll leave if...if you don't...want me here after...that." A choking sound that might be mistaken for another sob shuddered out of the Tulgey, and she brought a paw up to cover her face, scrubbing at her eyes (and effectively hiding the smile that appeared there, briefly, before she controlled it and turned the edges of her mouth down again in a pitiful expression).

Sabe smiled at the other out of curtsy, he couldn't really believe that was the only thing that the bird only did both for pleasure and as a hobby. He was about to say something when someone entered the hotel and he could hear his name being called out. He gave a bit of a sigh and looked over towards where the hotel was located. HE gave a bit of a sigh as he noted who it was.
He would look back over to the Highlander and frown somewhat. "Well Mr. McDuck... I guess that my over zealous lackey is in need of something... I guess that it has been a pleasure." he said as he stood up and extended his hand towards the other. "Have a good day Mr. McDuck, till we meet again."
With a small bow to him did he leave and go see what the problem was. He knew that it would probably lead him out back to the courts. Oh well... alls a bother.
----
Menefer was beside himself without knowing what really to do. He wanted to help and he wanted to tell her somewhat of how he felt about her. He already felt something seeming to grow, as his face started to burn a bit, his emotions becoming aggressive and wanting to take over.
"Miss. White... I don't want you to go... I feel... I... umm..." he started to say something and then shied a bit away as he turned his head some. His face burning a bit more as he started to walk out, thinking on what to do or say... apparently she liked him right? She did hint at it...
He would go back to his station and start working once again, knowing full well that the food was going to be served really soon.

The smile slipped away from Graeme's bill when, before Sabe could reply and continue a conversation he was finally beginning to enjoy again, the Heron's name and title were being shouted from the entrance to the hotel. "Ah, it has indeed been a pleasure, Your Majesty," the Duck stated, standing as well and taking the outstretched hand in a firm shake. "I'm sorry to see you go." He really was, too, oddly enough. Perhaps the Heron just didn't have that love of business so many lacked, but he seemed otherwise a very agreeable fellow...for a Court lackey.
He tipped his hat to the Queen in response to his bow, and watched with brow furrowed as Sabe left, wondering at that last comment. Did he still hope to discuss Rabbits with him and invite him to the Club Court? Hopefully not...it could be merely a formality, a greeting exchanged between two important parties.
Right?
----
Mrs. White slowly pulled back from the other Feline, eyes big and sad looking. Part of her noticed how uncomfortable it was, and the swell of pity was dwarfed by the massive surge of sadistic glee. Look at the beautiful mental torment! 'Love' was such a useless, hillarious thing...
"Menefer," she whispered, for his benefit, and trembled, but as soon as his back was to her, she grinned, a slow, satisfied expression that showed her teeth. Well played, Mrs. White. The expression shifted again, into a thoughtful, wistful one, as she headed back into the kitchen, tail swishing. She very carefully didn't look at Menefer, presumably out of sadness, as her fluffy, down turned ears and drooping whiskers would show.
Inwardly, she was wondering just how much she could milk this. Maybe if she played it up right, Menefer could be a useful pawn...he seemed to actually be developing some sort of crush on her. But just how blind was love, truly? Perhaps she would find out...perhaps she could play just a little more of this dangerous game...
She still had to keep him out of the mansion, though. That would ruin everything.
