Graeme's eyebrows went up as his light, harmless little lie-turned-qualified-statement was turned back on him far more obviously. That was a bold thing for Sabe to say to him, titled Queen or no. He was willing to bet he might actually have more friends in high places than the Heron did...of course, that was assuming he was offended by the insinuation. He wasn't.
After a moment of looking at the Heron with a rather inscrutable expression...Graeme just laughed. It was a deep-throated chuckle that had his shoulders shaking and which lasted for several minutes. After all, he'd been accused of worse, and from Cards who were much more sane and level-headed than Sabe was, at least in Graeme's mind.
Mrs. White entered the kitchen, finding an apron that seemed to be mostly clean and slipping it on, tying it deftly with her paws. She looked for Menefer, and, finding him, skipped over with a happy smile and waited until he was done talking and could tell her what he wanted her to cook. In the meantime, her eyes gazed the room in what may have been considered a lazy, unconcerned manner...but in reality was completely focused and calculated. She was taking the measure of this place. It was a very nice kitchen, all things considered, but that that was to perhaps be expected with how fancy schmancy this hotel was.

Sabe was waiting for something to be said back, something that would try to turn back unto him. Though once the Highlander started to laugh did it catch Sabe off hand. Though, he guessed that laughter was a way to get out of a sticky situation on any ones behalf. So the best thing that Sabe could do was laugh with the Jack.
After the laughter he waved the waitress over and ordered some more drinks, and even insisted that Mr. McDuck drink some himself. Once the drinks were delivered did Sabe smile some, "Well now, if you don't mind me being so Bold, could I ask if you have any family? Perhaps a Miss. McDuck?" he asked as he tipped his drink and sipped on it carefully.
Menefer ordered around the cooks, after being away for so long outside did he wonder how the place could have become so messed up and rather outlandish on their dishes. It just seemed that as soon as he left to take care of some private business did the cooks just go off and do what they wanted. He gave a sigh as he glared and started to make a menu for the whole kitchen, telling them to toss out some of the foods and even keep some of the more bolder cooks dishes.
He turned to the Feline and smiled, "So Mrs. White, what can you cook?" he asked as he sat on his haunches... it was rather hard to always stay on three paws. Having his rear right leg bound high and tightly made it rather hard to move about. He always wondered why his parents hadn't bound some other piece of his flesh.

Graeme may have his faults, but stupidity wasn't one of them. It had never been his intention to insult a titled Queen, even a Queen of Clubs, and he wasn't about to start just because the other man had tried to deal him a low blow. When the laughter finally tapered off, he shook his head with a helpless smile, moving his glasses to wipe the tears out of his eyes. He still politely declined to drink anything alcoholic, though he would readily accept a refill on his tea.
At the question, though...his expression fell, unhappy for a brief moment before it settled into business neutral again. "No, I've never married," he said, and then added with a forced chuckle, "Some would say that makes me the lucky one." Truth be told, he'd just never met the right girl...well. Never met the right girl under the right circumstances. He'd been in love, once, though it made him rather wistful to think on it. He wasn't about to bring that up to someone he'd just met, though; his past was his own business. "What about you, then, Your Majesty? Is there a sweetheart waiting for you back at the Court?" Turnabout is fair play, indeed.
Mrs. White had a rather blank look on her face as she watched Menefer scold the other cooks. Those who glanced her way shook their heads, thinking her rather daft. Really, none of them could have guessed that behind that sweet, vacant expression, the Tulgey was plotting ways to sneak poison into the soup. Not that she'd do it, of course; such a subtle way of killing, while interesting to consider, was a bit disappointing in the end. No blood. No screaming. Way too fast a fate for some.
She blinked out of it when addressed, turning her happy expression onto the cook. "Oh! Why, whatever you like. I've been cooking for Mr. McDuck for years, and you know how finicky the rich can be sometimes," she said, batting her eyelashes. "Not that it's anything against him, of course! He just likes a wider variety of foods than the common Card is used to choosing from."

Sabe could spot some of the things that the duck probably didn't want to have picked up, such as the facial features and how he controlled himself quickly after the question. The heron just wanted to change the subject, for he had thought that Mr. McDuck had tried to say something about his wealth and the style of his lifestyle. Though that would quickly pass as he to was rebounded on by the same question. It was only fair. "Some would say it would be lucky, and no... No one back at the courts or in all the realms." he said just to add in the later, to keep away from rumors being spread about him having some mistress out in some other realm that he visited. That would just prove to be disastrous. "Though I did have a lover some time back, a Silky doe... I did consider her to be the most precious thing in all of the world and stars... and yet she chose someone else." he said as he gripped his glass, stopping when he heard the crack run up the side of it... not to mention the slight movement of glass had cut his hand. He would then call for a waitress to bring a moist towel, just to stop the bleeding. "Sorry about that Mr. McDuck... it was a rather trining time for me." He said to the Highlander after he received his towel. --- Menefer was just happy that he had finally gotten his kitchen in order. He would then nod a few times as she told him that she could just cook about anything. Though... this would make the feline smile somewhat more. Could she love to cook as much as he did? That would be wonderful! Who knows, she might just be the one that he has been looking for for quite some time, someone that was as nice as she was and willing to please just like he! "Could you make some BĂ©arnaise sauce to go over the venison." he asked as he went about to collect some of the ingredients that he would require to make enough for about fifty people. He would smile and hope that she knew what he was talking about, being one of the hardest sauces to make in all the regions. [[ooc: XD... I love to cook! and Menefer is my extention of my love for fine foods and dishes.... He can only cook what I can myself, XD... ... ...>.< That sauce has kicked my A-- many times! I have only made it right twice in my life...]]

Graeme immediately regretted turning the question back. It had been a petty, thoughtless gesture: thoughtless of both the fact that Sabe may not have wanted to disclose details of his personal love life to a near stranger, and of the fact that he himself was always quite uncomfortable when others discussed such matters in his presence. He was only half expecting that Heron to give him an honest answer, but...he did. Graeme's face fell in sympathy, and he made a sad noise under his breath.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Your Ma-" But the rest of the Duck's sentence was cut off by a gasp as he heard the crack of glass and saw blood well on the Heron's hand. He started to get up, but Sabe had already noticed and was getting someone to take care of it. Feathers a bit ruffled, the Spade resumed his seat, though he turned a slightly worried gaze to the other Avian. "No, I...imagine it would be." He hesitated. Sabe had revealed far more than he had, and now he felt a little guilty. But did he really want to remember -her- here, to discuss something he had always held so close to his chest with a Queen?
It made him feel lonely, somehow, to think he'd never really...talked about it. Not in years. He thought about it. And that, more than anything else, was what found his bill opening again, almost against his will. "I can...understand. I've done the same thing." He paused, and then rushed to clarify. "That is, I've gotten upset enough about something to..." He gestured at the Heron's hand. "Lost a number of good wineglasses that way."
Wait. That...hadn't been what he was going to even say. Wasn't he going to bring up his 'loved and lost' history, instead of some trifling fancy about a broken glass? Was it really that hard for him to talk about?
Suits. What was wrong with him?
----
Mrs. White, in fact, hated cooking, hated Menefer, and hated serving people above all else. It was only her need to live somewhat comfortably that had led her into feeling trapped working for McDuck, but she couldn't just -stop-, and she needed to keep up an image of being relatively sane while under his employ.
Some days it was harder than others, this being one of those days. But the Tulgey managed well. Her smile never faltered, even as Menefer asked her to make Bearnaise sauce, which was one of the most devilishly difficult tasks he could have set her. It required more concentration and effort than, say, prepping the meat. !@#$%^.
"I would be glad to," she said sweetly, beaming at him and, as much as everything in her rebelled against the idea, she let herself brush up against the Torque as she moved to get out the ingredients, throwing him a saucy wink over her shoulder.
Was she leading him on? Hell yes. He deserved it after being indirectly responsible for this entire day. She was starting to think, after all this, that the boring, stupid meeting would have been less effort. Mrs. White hummed quietly to herself as she got out the eggs, vinegar and spices and other ingredients she would need to make the sauce, her expression light, bubbly, and giving no sign of her inner rage.
((I'm afraid I'm not much of a cook lol...XD So I'll just have to kind of wing it, haha.))

Sabe just took the moist towel that had a gold trim on it and wrapped his hand quickly to staunch the blood, and in hopes to clot it quickly. He gave a sigh as he realized that he had just broke yet another glass over someone that he knew that he would never be able to get back again. He knew full well that he probably would never find someone like her in his whole life, never had he ever thought that he would find someone like anyways. So his cause was quite hopeless.
He would know full well that something was amiss as he heard Mr. McDuck say something. He would turn his attention back onto him and pause slightly as he listed, knowing that the Highland duck was trying to control his feelings as well. Sabe knew full well that something had happened in his past somewhat similar to his. Being in a high place and knowing full well that Mr. McDuck could just about ruin anyone that he put his mind too, decided to put this information on the back burner just in the case for mud slinging later in life. Though... for right now he decided that he would instead drop the subject and change it quickly.
He placed his injured right hand on the table palm down to keep the pressure as he moved his walking stick to his lap instead of his left hand. He would keep the glass that he had broken though, by placing it into his pouch. He would though place some coin on the table explaining to the waitress that he would pay for the cup and dispose of it himself. He would find that she took the money and then brought him another cup of tea... wow... the confused mouse must have been in shock to get their orders mixed up... it didn't matter anyways... he liked tea.
"So I have a rather weird question for you." he said as he dropped two cubes of sugar into his tea stirring it slightly letting some time pass before he sipped on the drink before continuing on what he was saying, "Do you believe in Rabbits?" he said as he took another sip from his tea cup, remembering on the stories that his parents would tell him to get him to go to sleep or the jib that they would come kidnap him if he kept being bad.
---
Menefer watched her do what he asked, but when she slid against him and gave him that wink did his hair went on end as his jaw dropped just a bit. It had caught him completely unawares. His mind quickly raced as he thought about what she had just done. Oh how he wished that maybe she was the one and only person in the world that he thought that he could fall in love with... though he would have to ask this question later. He didn't even think that he would have to use any of his magical abilities to make him forget some bad habits of her to be with her. For she just seemed perfect and social. Oh how he loved the mere thought of this... it even made him bump into another cook caring a heavy pot full of steaming water.
Yes... the pot flew and sloshed across the floor before Menefer knew what had happened. His eyes flew open as the other cursed at him for being a klutz and needed to get out if he couldn't get his head strait. All Menefer could do was say that he was sorry and continue to work as he kept stealing away glances towards Mrs. White.

Graeme watched Sabe clean up his hand with a rather numb look, feeling rather cold. Not physically; it was actually quite warm in the room. But something icy seemed to be filling him up, clutching at the heart some claimed he didn't have, the heart that, as much as he often thought himself above the feeling, had indeed been broken, all those years ago.
He closed his eyes, feeling slightly dizzy...sipping at his drink without really tasting it (and therefore not noticing it was actually wine instead of tea...the waitress had given him Sabe's order accidentally). Graeme summoned up his will and mastered the feeling momentarily, and turned to regard Sabe again, taking another sip of the drink in his hand and wondering why it tasted odd. A different kind of tea, now? But his focus was still elsewhere.
The question made him blink, and then eye Sabe carefully. He was silent for a long moment before replying. "No," he said decisively, taking another drink. When the glass lowered from his beak, he was smiling. "But I don't have to believe in something for it to exist." There, let Sabe chew on that one. In all actuality, Graeme had seen Rabbits before. He was well-traveled enough that it would have been more of a surprise if he hadn't encountered the so-called 'mythical' creatures at one point or another in his life. But he also had the sense to know that one couldn't go around speaking freely of Rabbits to just anyone. How Sabe took his rather ambiguous statement would tell the Duck how carefully he had to tread around the Heron when speaking of these matters.
---
Mrs. White could tell she was being watched. She tried not to let it bother her, continuing to hum and swish her tail in what would be a carefree way. She concentrated on preparing the sauce, knowing the trick to this particular recipe was all in the exact quantities of all the spices, but at the sound of something loud crashing behind her, her ears flicked back, wondering what had happened.
Once she realized what exactly it was, she whirled around, looking horrified, but inwardly laughing loudly with glee. Oh, this was just too good! Menefer was falling for her act hook, line, and sinker! How -delicious-. And he'd caused an accident. Oh yes, oh Suits yes! This was wonderful enough to make all this worth it.
But none of her glee showed on her face. Mrs. White would look, to all the assembled, worried. "Menefer! Are you all right?" A little bit of fake worry went a long way. She even took a half step towards him, pink eyes wide.

It took Sabe a few moments to realize that somehow not only had he gotten the others tea, but Mr. McDuck had also gotten his wine. He held in a statement about it, but decided to let it slide for right now til he found out for himself. It was about time that the duck started to relax... though his answer to his question was a bit odd and got the heron thinking about it more in depth. He couldn't just now blurt out a answer... he had made that statement for a reason and now it had the heron thinking.
One, the bird had never once meet or even had this sort of conversation with someone, or if he did then they would dismiss the question and start up a new question. The question that he had asked was rather simple... much like "Good weather today, no?" or even the occasion "How about them Clubs?". They were just something to be topic changers, for those rather awkward times. Though now it had him thinking, the second reason that he now knew something was up. It was the rather odd pause like he had before stated... it gave the duck enough time to formulate his words. All this was starting to turn eirry to him.
He took another sip of tea before he opened his beak to say anything, looking at the duck with a more serious manner. "I see..." he said as he placed his tea cup on the saucer easily. "I guess that its almost like finding a Toruqehelm that isn't depressed... doesn't mean that there isn't one out there, no?"
Chew on that... Sabe could also pussy foot around the bush too. Though... he didn't what the duck was talking about... yet Sabe knew full well that something was up... so the question at the end would draw him into answering, as it was polite to do in conversation.
----
Menefer looked up at her with wide eyes, surprised that she had saw what he had done. It mortified him into the mere thought of this happening. He blushed, turning his nose a lighter shade of pink before he quickly turned away and started shouting out orders and what not. He would quickly move over to a table and start cracking eggs for his own recipe that he had acquired in another land. He just needed to keep his mind busy on work and not on her. His future restaurant depended on this.
Though... he guessed that if it didn't work out... he could always try to get employment with Mr. McDuck so that he could be closer to her, he thought as he smiled accidentally cracking a egg that split to the floor. He cursed the courts and quickly went back to work, making his dish.

Graeme chuckled lightly at Sabe's reply; it just suddenly seemed funny. This wasn't a conversation he had with anyone very often, after all, for obvious reasons! Now, if it got out that Mr. McDuck believed in so-called 'fairy tales', like Rabbits, well...everyone would think he'd gone off the deep end. But something seemed right about the situation, and Sabe seemed very trustworthy! All his doubts about the other's sanity had somehow been pushed out of his mind, and were replaced by a warm feeling. Little did the poor Duck know that these were the effects of the alcohol. Since he drank so rarely, it only took a little bit to affect him.
"Well put, Your Majesty...and just so!" Graeme said with a grin, raising up a finger and staring at it for a moment before continuing. "I think there are a lot of things out there most Cards don't know anything about because they go around with their eyes practically shut, never bothering to look around them. I always look around me." His accent was even stronger now, possibly even making his words a bit harder to understand for someone who didn't speak Highlands.
The Duck took another sip of his "tea" that wasn't, draining the last of the glass, and then sighed as he set it down with an odd little -clink-. The Duck blinked. That was a strange sound for a tea cup to make. It really sounded more like a glass. A...wine...glass...
Graeme looked down, and his face paled several shades beneath his white feathers, hands trembling slightly as the realization struck. Suits. This was the last thing he needed. No wonder his head felt fuzzy!
---
Mrs. White could have crowed with malicious glee at Menefer's embarrassment, for it meant that her tricks were working on him. He was actually falling for her! Oh, this was rich, this was just -too good-! Of course, she didn't show this...merely blinked in sad confusion for a moment before turning back to make the sauce, the work seeming not as bad now. Used to multi tasking, she was able to watch Menefer out of the corner of her eye while still preparing the sauce adequately.
She had to start humming again to hold down the laugh that wanted to bubble up as he split an egg onto the floor. Wondering if he was still stealing glances her way, Mrs. White swished her tail in an absent gesture that she knew would put her figure on display for the other Feline.

Sabes eyes went wide as he connected the dots that Mr. McDuck was stating... he knew that he had a bit to drink, but he didn't think that he would get this drunk this fast. Not to mention on what he was suggesting. Could it really be possible that there was a such thing as a rabbit? That there were creatures out there that were piratically myth? He had only had bed times stories and that such, always thinking that they didn't exist.... but here was one of the most wealthy of all the cards, claiming that there was a such thing. Well that was what he was getting at through suggestive words that couldn't be traced back to him, since they were so ambiguous. Though... he knew that something had to be done as he sat there looking at him.
He cleared his throat to capture his friends attention. "Mr. McDuck... I best belive that this sort of conversation should be better spoken behind closed doors?" he said as he took a sip from his tea cup...
This could mean soo much... so much that would be considered a great asset to him in his battles to become one of the strongest in all the regions. After all... you had to be strong to protect those that are most dear to you. To find ... a rabbit.. now that would be something... even frighting... just like that time... that time he meet a Joker... something else that wasn't suppose to exist...
"I do believe that we should talk about this later... I would like you to come visit me in the Courts to discuss this in more detail... after all... rabbits are just like jokers... they don't exist right? ... just like a happy torque..." he hopped that he cought on as he looked about making sure that no one overheard what he was talking about.
He would order coffee for the both of them so they could sober up some.
-----
Truth be told... he had burned several pieces of meat, and had ruined a sauce, because of that wonderful woman. He couldn't believe how badly that he had been taking by her. All he could think about right now was trying to secure a way to work for the duck as well so that he could be closer to her... or try to buy her from him... but he diidn't have that much money to purchess something that wasn't a ace.
He dropped his second roll of bread and thought that it was enough. She should be done by now... so he guessed that it was time that he talked to her about what he was thinking.
He approached her from behind, watching her tail moving back and fourth... his eyes couldn't help but follow as he bumped into another table... he would curse silently as he moved up beside her.
"Could I have a moment of your time? I would like to ask you something in private..." he said as he blushed a bit.
