The canine had no intention of playing along with Mia's game. He simply snorted at the ferret's reply before disappearing out of sight.
He took a long shower before he had a chance to get rid of the awful smell. Who had left that science experiment out there? After drying off he had no intention of bothering the ferret. Instead he took to reading and grading all of the assignments he had been procrastinating on.
When it came to will power and being a jerk over stupid little things Christopher took the prize. He was going to pretend to be furious for maybe a few days to get back at the ferret for the nasty little comments. Mia would just have to suck it up. It would be beneficial for him anyway considering he had to go to a conference back in Esterberry for a few days.
He just wasn't about to tell the ferret that he was leaving for a little while.

After about twenty minutes Mia was thoroughly bored, and had a feeling Chris wasn't going to return to taunt him. The canine liked to leave him to stew on his own.. which suited him just fine when he was brooding, but not when he was bored. He slid off the couch and made his way over to his office to do some work he'd been procrastinating on with Chris's arrival. He could use a few good days locked up in his office.
Predictably, a few days later, when he hadn't seen hide or hair of Chris, he became worried.. but mostly curious. The Esterberry didn't have many places to go. He didn't have any friends (ha, haha, hahaaha.) in Spades or, as far as he knew, many in the Capital. Maybe he'd gone back to Esterberry.
Maybe his mother had scared him off.
He'd come back eventually. Most of his clothing was still around (he'd gone snooping), so if he waited long enough the canine would eventually turn up.
The ferret grabbed a stack of reports he was supposed to have read weeks ago and set up on the bed to wait.

He was gone for a week and a half. It was longer than he intended to be away, but once he was in Esterberry, prying himself away from the conference and his job were far more difficult than he expected.
And before going back to the palace he wanted to stop in the Capital to pick a few things up. When he finally did return to the palace of Spades he was wearing a rather nice business suit and carrying several bags filled with nothing but books.
He made a point of dumping them on Mia's bed as soon as he made it to the room. When the canine was satisfied with the organized piles of books he went to find the ferret with a wicked smile on his face. For once in his life he knocked on the door to the ferret's office and waited for a response before entering.

Blah blah blah blah work blah blah. Mia's life had gotten very, very boring recently, mostly due to the fact that Christopher was still gone, the mangy dog. Who was he supposed to argue with, his mother?! She had gotten boring years ago! He couldn't very well argue with the Queen, and most of his contemporaries weren't very good conversationalists, much less debaters. He could go visit one of his siblings, but he liked what precious little of his sanity that was left where it was, and Saethre and Chiari, at least, were liable to steal it. Aphasia was always a good friend, but he'd taken to wandering around lately and Mia just wasn't up for finding him.
Work work work. Blah.
The knock on his door surprised him. No one actually knocked. Even the bloody servants just waltzed in as if they owned the place, so who the hell was there? It better not be someone begging him for something; he wasn't in the mood to grant any favors. "Come in," He called out, trying to get the mask of irritation off of his face.

Christopher opened the door with a smile on his muzzle. "Hello," he said rather cheerfully, "I just wanted to let you know that I'm not dead and I brought you back a few gifts from Esterberry."
He leaned against the door frame a smirk still on his face as he looked at ferret up and down. He didn't look particularly cheerful. Good. That probably meant he was going to explode when he saw all the books on his bed. That's what he got for making snide comments.
"You look like you're getting quite a bit of paperwork done without me around. Maybe I should leave you to your own devices more often?" Of course the canine would have to leave the ferret to his own devices once the actually school year geared up. He still had a job in Esterberry that he wasn't about to give up.

Mia looked up to find no other than Christopher lounging indolently in his doorway. He actually came by to say he was home? Was the sky falling? The ferret glanced up at the ceiling before he could help himself; no cracks. Perhaps the dog was simply losing it.
Nono, there was the smirk. There was something more behind this than a simple "hello, I'm home." "Gifts? Do they bite? Will I get poisoned if I touch them?" He scowled across the room. "If you're going to be doing this often, do I need to start fearing for my health?" Well, more than it was already precarious already.
The ferret rolled his eyes. "Your presence has nothing to do with how much work I get done, considering how much you hide yourself in obscure places anyways. You avoid me at all costs when you are here." He replied, his tone an angry mask of accusations.
Mia sighed, muttered a few more derogatory things, then pushed himself off the desk and walked over to Christopher. "What are these horrific gifts? You're showing them to me so I can hit you while you're still there. Or would you prefer I hit you in advance?"

Christopher was completely unphased by the angry ferret in fact the smirk of amusement only grew wider as he continued to lean against the door. Nothing was going to dim the canine's mood. He was completely done with all the work that he had to do, and he was going to have a nice break regardless of what the ferret had in mind.
"They aren't poison, they're just regular old gifts from Esterberry. I'm sure you're going to enjoy them." He idly fixed his own tie as the ferret crossed the room. He was in a horrible mood today wasn't he?
"You can hit me now or later, it's completely up to you. Nothing is going to ruin my mood today, so do your worst." His smile briefly flashed into something rather wicked before turning back to his regular "I'm better than you haha" smirk.

Mia (very) belatedly noticed that Chris was quite dressed up, complete with a tie. Had he gone somewhere important? The ferret was quite curious, but too pissy to actually suck it up and ask. No doubt if he did, Chris wouldn't answer anyways; he'd just get snarked at more.
"Are they. Well then, it shouldn't be a problem showing me now then, will it?" He replied archly, motioning the canine through the doorway. They'd have to see about the "enjoying" part. Mia really didn't want to be in such a bad mood, but it was difficult to trust anything that came out of Christopher's mouth as sincere.
He paused to blink bemusedly at Christopher, not sure how to take that statement - or if he wanted to take it at all. It was either verbal leering.. or prodding buttons, he wasn't sure which. Instead of responding, he just started toward the suite.

Christopher let himself be ushered out of the door frame and towards Mia's room. His amused smirk continued to paint his face as he made his way with the ferret to the bedroom.
He politely opened the door for him. And he remained in the door frame as the ferret passed him. He wasn't about to step in the room if he was going to get yelled at.
The books were sitting on the bed in neat piles. It was a various arrangement of novels from the region and capital. Most of them were brand new and best sellers. Some of them were actually bed time stories, and one on top of the massive pile was a book on proper etiquette. "I thought you could use something to curb your boredom when I'm off in Esterberry teaching the next generation of idiots."

Mia continued to be suspicious throughout the long walk to the room, and was mildly surprised when nothing jumped out at him from the door. Then again, Christopher's style was much more subtle than that.. When the canine didn't walk in first Mia gave him a long, penetrating stare, then proceeded first.
His surprise at seeing a mountain of books was monumental; books! He liked books! Wait, what, something he liked? Christopher had gotten him something he liked? Maybe they were magical books and were going to kill him with a touch.. best to test it before he got too excited.
Still a little dumbfounded, he picked up the first book he reached; it was a Cinderella-esque bedtime story. His fingers didn't tingle. Nothing bit him. Maybe.. it was just a book?
He risked a glance over at Christopher, completely unable to respond to what was actually a really nice gift. His mouth opened.. and shut.. and opened again, and finally he just picked up another book when no words ever came out.
Sweet suits, how many books were there? They were covering the entire bed! Haha, funny, Christopher.. maybe he should just leave them there so Chris couldn't sleep either.
