The cat made a rather cheerful mewing sound as she took a seat. Apparently she had picked the right sort of dinner. Then again, how could someone go wrong with meat? And what was the likely hood of someone like her being a vegetarian.
"I'm glad that I picked the right dish for you," Xiven said as she watched one of the servants appear with with the dishes. "You should have a memorable time at the court of Hearts after all."
The dinner was laid out in front of them. Cal's meat had been cut into smaller pieces so she wouldn't have to swallow the whole piece of meat at once. There were several side dishes of vegetables and two different kinds of vegetables. It was quite the nice meal.
Xiven picked up her glass first. It was filled with water, but Cal had been offered wine to drink if she wanted. "To fortunate meetings," Xiven said before taking a sip.

Calanthe's tail was wagging so hard, she was surprised the table wasn't shaking with her excitement for their dinner. She was certainly easy to please when it came to food. When the dinner did come out and her plate was set before her, Cal was so damn happy that she wasn't vegetarian. The steak was cooked medium well; just how she liked it. It was as if the cooks were telepathic or something.
The rest of the spread looked absolutely delicious as well. She was even offered wine, but she declined the spirits for now. Cal didn't want a repeat of what happened at the bar with Peaches. Although, maybe after she got some food in her stomach, she could probably afford to have a glass of wine. If Xiven had some, then maybe it'd be fine to do the same. But for now, water was perfectly acceptable.
When Xiven raised her glass for the toast, Cal tried to do the same. She'd done it before successfully, so without further ado, she sat back on her haunches, and carefully grabbed her glass with her two front paws. Raising it, she smiled. "To fortunate meetings!" Then, she took a small sip from her glass before setting it back down and getting herself into a more comfortable position. Glad she didn't spill the contents of her glass, she smiled again as she leaned down to her food to take a bite. The savory juices of the meat flooded her mouth and ran down her throat as she chewed and swallowed.
This was surely heaven.
When she came out of her steak induced daydream, she spoke again to the Queen. "This dinner is truly scrumptious, M'Lady. I will definitely have to give my compliments to the cooks on this beautiful dinner. It's like they read my mind and knew exactly what to make. I really feel spoiled here." A blush ran across her cheeks. Here, at the Court, she was treated like a Queen herself. She felt she didn't quite deserve this treatment. After all, she had done nothing in return for Xiven yet! But, she might as well enjoy herself, for who knew when this little adventure would end. Cal certainly hoped it wouldn't be anytime soon.

Xiven was enjoying her food, not to the same degree as Cal was, but it really was a rare occasion she let herself have a proper steak. She was always conscious about being healthy and staying fit. But every once in a while a slab of three serving sizes of medium rare meat couldn't hurt her. She purred happily every so often.
When the other woman spoke she grinned, polishing off what was left of her meal. "I'm sure they'll be delighted to find out you enjoyed their meal. Not many people compliment them in person often." Well. Who didn't take them for granted the majority of the time? She certainly did. Hell, she probably hadn't thanked them since she was a twelve year old girl, and most of the staff had changed by now.
Xiven took another sip of her water before speaking again. "Do you have any room for dessert?"

The canine continued to eat her dinner, savoring every bite as if each were the last. It was good to see Xiven enjoying the meal as well, obvious with the slight purring sound she made every so often. Pretty soon, her plate was empty and her belly was full. It was such a wonderful feeling.
She would be glad to give the cooks her praise in person as soon as she could. After all, who didn't like some positive reinforcement every so often? It really did wonders sometimes. "I'll be glad to visit the kitchens anytime. Everyone deserves a compliment or two every now and again." Cal smiled again at the Queen. She just couldn't help it when she was so very happy.
Dessert sounded wonderful. If her previous meals were any indication of how good it would be, then it was surely something to look forward too. "I'd be thrilled to indulge in some dessert. It's not something I do very often, so I can afford to give in to my sweet tooth this time." She secretly hoped that Xiven would join her and have some dessert as well. They both seemed deserving of a splurge like this.

Xiven couldn't help but smile. "I hope you enjoy chocolate cake. I asked the chiefs to bake something special if they had the chance, and it would seem they did." She grinned as she saw one of the servants coming from the hallway holding a tray.
---
It was a week later, and in all honestly Xiven hadn't expected to hear a word from the woman. The "date" had been quite successful, but that didn't mean much when it came down to it. The woman ran her fingers over the pile of work she needed to do.
It was never ending. She gave a small sigh as she pulled one of the papers off of the pile and began to read it. Of course she didn't get far as there was a knock on the door. With a mild irritated tail twitch she got up to open the door for whoever it was.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw the woman standing there. "Calanthe! This is unexpected! Come in, Come in!"

"Chocolate cake sounds like the perfect ending to this lovely dinner. And I'm sure it tastes wonderful too." She gave the Queen another grin before taking her first bite of the cake that was placed in front of her.
Ah, wonderful indeed.
----
Time came and went. She finished the flower arrangement for Xiven in just a couple of days. It helped that she had quite a few flowers to work with from the Court gardens. Her paws did hurt a little after handling the roses, but nothing she couldn't recover from quickly. Once she was done, Xiven sent her back to Yarrow Gardens in a carriage.
Just a week later, and Calanthe found herself heading back towards the Highlands. She couldn't wait to surprise Xiven with her visit. After a few days of walking, she finally recognized the tall buildings of the Court of Hearts. Once there, she knew just where to go.
Finally, she found Xiven's office. She knocked lightly, hoping she wouldn't be disturbing the Queen too much. But the happy surprise was clearly painted on Xiven's face when she saw the Yarrow standing there. Cal's heart fluttered as she was welcomed into the office.
"Yes, Xiven, I know my being here is quite unexpected. I just couldn't seem to stay away for long." She gave the feline a warm smile. But, she hadn't traveled all this way for nothing. "Oh! This is for you." The canine shrugged the neatly wrapped package off of her back and placed it in Xiven's hands. "It's just a little token of thanks from me to you. You did so much for me while I was here, and I wanted you to know that I really appreciated it."

"You're so sweet," Xiven said happily as she ushered the woman inside. She shut the door behind them. This moment seemed to be more of a private one. It wasn't every day someone came all the way from the gardens to see her. The gesture itself was something absolutely romantic.
When the other woman offered the package Xiven couldn't help but find herself blushing. At least it wasn't visible through her fur. "You didn't have to do anything like that!" she exclaimed as she carefully took the package.
Honestly Xiven wasn't one who got gifts very often. And when she did they were often horrible things from her mother. The blush grew deeper at the thought of some of those wonderful gifts.
Cal certainly had much better taste. Xiven smiled as she motioned for Cal to take a seat, setting the package down she carefully removed the wrapping with a little help from her claws.

Cal walked the rest of the way into the office as Xiven closed the door behind her. "Think nothing of it, Xiven. I saw this in a shop back at home, and it made me think of you immediately. I do hope you'll like it."
A blush began to creep across her face as she waited in anticipation. When the Queen motioned for her to sit down, she did so by leaping up onto the chair in front of the desk. Cal couldn't help wagging her tail at a time like this. When Xiven's claws removed the last of the tape, the wrapping fell away to reveal a beautiful glass rose.
The artist who'd made it truly captured the beauty of a real rose. Every detail was there, down to the last tiny thorn. But what made this glass rose truly special was the color. The petals were a striking violet, with streaks of a lighter purple thrown in all throughout it. Since the stem, leaves and thorns were made of clear glass, all the attention was on the blooming head of the rose. It made one wonder just how the artist achieved all this in a short amount of time.
Cal looked slowly from the unveiled gift to Xiven's face in order to see the Queen's reaction. She only hoped it was a good one.

Oh this. This was just so utterly adorable and full of sugary sweet goodness the feline could honestly feel her teeth rotting in protest. Her face practically lit up as she inspected the glass rose. It was such a beautiful color and just... everything was so amazing about it.
She had never gotten a romantic gift like this. "Calanthe, it's just absolutely amazing. T-thank you so much. I'm so happy!"
Tears were almost coming to her eyes. She carefully put the rose down so she could reach over the desk and give the canine a hug. Her tail swish happily. This woman was just amazing and so very kind. How could her mother, of all people, manage to to pick up someone as sweet as this?
This was just lucky beyond all thought and reason.
She released the woman with a bright smile on her face. "Would you like to have a bit of tea with me since you've come all this way?"

When Calanthe saw Xiven's face brighten considerably at the sight of the glass rose, she couldn't help but do the same. It just felt so amazing to make someone like Xiven feel good as well. Her tail wagged even more when she received the hug from the Queen. She gave a little squeeze while still in the embrace. "You're quite welcome, Xiven! I'm very glad that you like the rose, and even more so that it makes you this happy."
When they finally released each other from the hug, the canine looked up at Xiven's face once more. There was a sparkle in her eyes, and Cal knew she had been the one to put it there. She blushed deeply again, the crimson color spreading across her muzzle.
At the mention of tea, Cal knew she just couldn't resist spending more time at the Court with Xiven. "I would love to have a cup of tea with you. Shall we have it in here, or somewhere else?"
