Anubis was surprised when the other Jack, if he could call him that, rushed around the corner. He felt the sharp bite of the scalpel cut deep into his face and he let out a scream, slashing wildly at the Jack with his own knife. (4 :/ lol). He turned quickly, screaming madly searching the dark for the attacker.
The Jack blinked slowly, his left eye blurred by the blood pouring down his face. He snarled and swung at the dark, knowing he wouldn't hit anything.
"Hiding? Smart, but cowardly. . ." He hissed. "Come on and fight."
Dafina watched the conversation around her with horror. What. . . was that Doe doing? She tried to keep the fear off her face when her Father came rushing towards the door, and she saw the mad Jack's scalpel sink deep into his face. She screamed, only held back from running forwards when Aleah put himself in front of her.
"FATHER!!"

((The mad Jack seemed to giggle when the scalpel sliced a deep line down Anubis's face from the bridge of his nose down through the top lip. Settling in the darkness, he began stalking forward, as quietly as he could manage. (8) His laughter couldn't be held in, it would seem, and he gave up, lashing out with long legs and making to slide under the Jack and strike at and extremely tender region. (15) Still giggling...something was going wrong with it...but it made this whole thing seem like such fun! It swiped madly with the blade, slicing a chunk out of a cabinet and sending a sudden clatter of dishes flying at both Jacks, one hitting him right in the chest and causing him to wheeze a little. (12 for one to hit Anubis as well.)
Back in the room, Maeve and Shelby thought for a second that they heard a scream coming from down the hall...back where they had first seen the mad Jack emerge, in fact... It was pretty loud and even over the sounds of fighting Jacks...it pierced its way through. Shelby also noticed something on the bottom of the old tea cart they dragged in...it looks like it's taped to the inside of one of the legs...a small bottle? What is it?))

Anubis heard his crazed laughter and turned quickly, though not quite quickly enough. His gaze followed the other Jack as he slid beneath him and struck out with talons, catching him off-guard and in quite a tender area. He doubled over, clutching at his groin when a flying plate caught him in the should and spun him around.
Enraged, Anubis lunged, slashing violently with his knife (17) before trying to dodge off to the side out of the way of any retaliatory strike. (1) Instead, his foot caught on the floor and he stumbled off to the side clumsily.
"Stop laughing!" He snarled. The seemingly mad Jack was starting to get on his nerves, didn't help that he was actually doing damage. Anubis reached up and touched his lip, wincing as he did so. Part of it felt numb, not usually a good sign.

Shelby felt a rush of relief when Anubis finally returned...but then the two Jacks started fighting, and the little Leveret tried to hide himself further in the corner of the room. Getting involved in that would be absolute suicide, odd magical abilities or not. He couldn't see how the fight was going from where he hid, but he could hear the mad laughter of the crazed Jack and Anubis's screaming and retaliation. He gulped, shivering a bit. It didn't sound like it was going well, not at all, and if the mad one won, it would be bad for all involved.
He tried to seek out Maeve's eyes, his own wide with a bit too much white showing. He wanted to ask how long would it be before the drug kicked in and made the mad one sluggish, but all he could manage was a sort of quiet squeaking sound. Maybe if he was closer to her? Maybe she'd have another plan? Oh, how Shelby desperately wanted direction in that moment. All his childish rebellion and wishing he could make his own decisions once in a while was forgotten in the heat of the moment.
He tensed, preparing for a bolt across the room, but he was stopped short in the middle of the floor by a loud -SCREAM- from down the hall. His ears pressed hard against his back in protest to the horrible noise, and when it was over he was left trembling in new fear. Was something -else- here, too? Something even worse? He couldn't even bear to think it!
It was then that he realized he was right out in the open, on a threadbare carpet in the middle of the room. He darted for the nearest cover: the tea cart, and sat there, shaking and trying to get his bearings. Shelby went to look for any sign of any new horror coming towards them out of the hall (could it be that freaky Card coming back?) but instead glimpsed something on the bottom of the tea cart, taped to the leg. A bottle of some type. Unthinkingly, Shelby gently pulled it off the leg and turned it about, looking for a label.

Maeve shivered. If they had only have a few minutes more...the Jack hadn't drunk enough tea, not to take him down quickly. It might give Anubis a slight advantage, but the drug would also make the crazed Jack more dangerous before the end. Maeve flinched away from the giggles that emanated from the now darkened hall; it was worse than the sounds of fighting.
In a way, Anubis' intervention had been rather timely; a moment longer, and the Jack most likely would have tried out the spell he had been muttering about. A spell learned from "the man"--the choice of word made her uneasy, for reasons she couldn't properly explain--"in the basement". Maeve wavered indecisively, not sure what to do given the change in circumstance. If she should even do anything.
The scream decided for her.
"Shelby," Maeve whispered, sparing only a brief glance to the bottle the other leveret held, "We have to find out who is in the basement. It might be the only way to end this. I won't--hold it against you, if you don't come."
Maeve gave the other leveret a watery smile, and then darted out into the darkened hallway, hoping to slip past the fighting Jacks in the dark. She headed for the stairwell.

((The Jack snarled and his laughter rang off of the low Warren ceilings. His legs and claws kicked and ripped hard after the first connection, tearing deeply into the other Torque Jack's inner thigh and groin. Anubis's knife sailed down with a heavy thud...coming away with the mad Jack's ear. The laughter stopped as the man reached up to feel the side of his head. The creature then picked its ear up off the floor, looked at it, and screeched, flinging itself to the side with an amazing burst of speed and hitting the wall, forcing itself upright and heaving itself, blade first, at the other Torque. (19!!) "Not supposed to- Below the belt! Get you back, get you back, get you back!" He hissed, grinning insanely as he swung about, slashing at anything in reach. "They're mine, I need them, you can't have them!" He howled. "Brother said! He said-" The Jack gripped the cabinet he'd clipped before, and then heaved! Trying to flip it either onto the other Jack, or before him. (9) "Ladies!" He cried, sticking his head in the doorway. "I um, apologize for the time taken! One moment, pleaaaaassse!"
The little bottle Shelby found has a small note taped to the back... For those who would seek more power, look only within to find. It tingles in his paw and smells rather...tempting... The voices coming from down the hallway seem to have become quieter, but if you'd focused on them...they're still there. It sounds like a good group of people!))

Anubis cackled as he felt his new blade strike down and through the other Jack's ear. He was amazed at the slickness with which it cut through the flesh and cartilage, he had barely felt any resistance. At least the damned poor excuse for a Jack had stopped laughing. Anubis barely had time to feel a sense of morbid joy before the scalpel was once again sailing towards him.
Still off balance from tripping he turned, the blade nicking his shoulder before. . . Something felt wrong.
The Jack froze, his hand mirroring the actions of his opponent from only moments before. It couldn't be. . . his ear hung by threads, severed at the base. His beautiful ear.
A strangled shriek of anger escaped his maw and Anubis threw out a hand, using his binding ability before throwing his knife at the offending Jack (18!)
"MY EAR!"
Jack's Ability: Once a day he can cause an opponents clothing or decorations to become intense bindings as they would were the other Rabbit a Torquehelm (if they are already of that realm their bindings will worsen). Ties will become thick chains, clothing will pull limbs tightly to the side or squeeze the muscle painfully within its confinement, jewelry will dig into flesh and pull the skin taut, making it very difficult for those not of the realm to identify with and fight with easily.
This spell will wear off after one hour and is not permanent.

Shelby was interrupted from his examining of the bottle by a familiar voice, and he glanced up quickly, ears perking. He blinked at Maeve. She wanted to go towards that horrible screaming? Well...it might be the best way to solve this...he watched her dart off past the fight, bladed tail gleaming, and made to follow her before he paused. This wasn't his problem, right? It wasn;t his Warren and none of his family was here. Why should he put his sorry neck on the line instead of just hiding until it was over?
Because, a little voice in the back of his mind reminded him, it might not be over. Whose to say you'll ever find the way out of this place? If the mad Jack or this guy who taught him to be mad killed everyone else, you'll be next. But Anubis was fighting well (Shelby had to believe that despite the shouts and the blood he could smell on the air, -had- to), and Maeve had said she wouldn't think any less of him if he stayed safe.
But you'd think less of yourself, the voice reminded him. "But I'm not brave like she is," he muttered, sagging a bit. "I'm just a Leveret..." He turned the bottle over in his paws. "I..." He read the inscription. Blinked. Read it again. A slight shiver went down his spine. Did he dare? Who says you can't be brave?
An expression of determination came over his face. "It's now or never! For Mom and Fleur!" he whispered to himself, and uncorked the bottle and drank the contents down, though he was shaking from nerves as he did. Then, he'd turn and bolt at top speed down the hall, towards Maeve and the voices. He just hoped he wouldn't be too late...

The racket was horrible; both Jacks had blades and were attacking each other ruthlessly. He'd had to hold Dafina back to keep her from surging after her father. So foolish… this was no fight for a Doe. His mouth formed a thin line at the series of pained noises coming from the other room.
"Stay here." He ordered, turning to give the Doe the sternest of looks before moving forward, closer to the fight. If Anubis was losing this battle, then he'd have to intervene.
He flinched, pulling back quickly as a cabinet crashed to the ground. Both Jacks were bleeding profusely from the head. Missing ears. Anubis was bleeding heavily from his groin in a way that made the leveret flinch. The man was screaming about his ear… Aleah would be more worried about his nethers.
He crouched slightly, watching and waiting for a key moment to step in, Looking for weakness in the crazed Torque. If one was spotted, he'd lunge, claws poised forward to pierce.

(( The Jack laughs insanely, the sound reaching a fever pitch, even as the blade of the butcher's knife soars through the air and cuts off his left hand! "Got your ear!" It cries, even as the scream of triumph turns into a scream of pain. "Ahahahaha! Your ear's worth more than my hand! See!? It's not even mine!"
It waves the stump at him insanely, spittle flying from its mouth as its grin actually squeaks! Teeth grinding against one another hard enough to force out the sound of enamel whining against each other. The stump is slowly circled by a faint black mist and changes into...into something resembling a Card's hand! Thick, scaled talons, stretch from it, and the Jack pulls his hand back to strike; when Anubis's spell hit him. He screamed, enraged, as his clothing began to bind him. His lack of pants for once something pleasing, even as he tried to fight with his tie; it changed to a thick, heavy chain on his neck, tightening and weighing him down. His rumpled and torn suit jacket and button-up shirt becoming tight enough to restrict his breathing, though the missing sleeve allowed him one arm to swing with. "No! No, no, no! Not for me! It's not supposed to-" Seeming to give up on words, he heaved his free arm full of talons at the Jack's chest (16), aiming to slam them in and twist them, cruelly. He hadn't seen the Leveret at his back however, and this would give the little thing the perfect opportunity to strike...or run off with some of the Does... Maeve was easily able to slip past the fighting Jacks, so concerned were they with their battle, that they didn't even notice her, or her swiftly following companion. The stairwell was exactly as they had left it, dark, spiraling down into blackness- Wait. No, it's a little different. The stairs spiral down, and it is dark, yes...but there's light at the end...and quite a few raised voices, one seems to call the name "Argo", another yells a load of gibberish and something about something not even being a Card! Cards...? Are there Cards in there?!? By the White Rabbit, what is this mess? Shelby felt his body churn as he ran, very suddenly convulsing, forcing him to flip over as he sped along, feet quite suddenly in the air, pedaling uselessly. A sharp, blinding pain dug through his chest and seemed to explode to the rest of his body, crawling up his torso, arms, legs, even tail. At least he was nearly to the stairwell with Maeve...his entire form twitches...and begins to change, horribly.
What-... What happened to him?!? He...he looks like a Jack, though he does not yet have the needs or powers of one...up on two legs with functional hands, and much taller and larger...but he appears to be partially built from left-over Card parts! No! How horrible! No Rabbit in their right mind would ever be able to see him in a proper light; he is truly as monstrous an abomination as a Card without a rank or Suit marking! Perhaps some could one day accept him, but many will flee from the sight of him. His tiny, mis-matched wings cannot give him the power of flight and his mis-matched feet make running awkward...but make kicks very painful to others.))~Nathalia
