Maeve glanced at Shelby, still shivering, and feeling so very tired; the initial fright was receding, however, and her heart didn't feel nearly so painful where it beat in her chest. She thought, perhaps, she might even be able to stand without falling right back over; she attempted to do so, and was pleased with the results. Clarity and the ability to form complete sentences was slower to return.
"Yes," she croaked. Coughing to clear her throat, she tried again, "Yes, we follow. There's...nothing we can do, but press on." She picked up the scalpel as she spoke, weighing it in her paw as she weighed their options. She would keep it as insurance, she decided.
Whatever the outcome--and she was rather afraid this particular story didn't have a happy ending--Maeve refused to sit idle waiting. She would not go down without a fight, without at least attempting to uncover the truth of what was happening all around them. And she liked to think that Shelby might feel similarly; why else would he have followed her?
"We can do this," she proclaimed, as bravely as could be manage, and made sure to meet Shelby's eyes, "You and me."
Maeve made to push open the door.

((Maeve's touch brings the magic of the scalpel to light...so rare is it for a Leveret to posses so much power...and so very, very frowned upon by the majority of Jacks...
Strange Scalpel: This scalpel tingles like fire when touched! The first person to grasp it will realize that once a week, they are now able to call forth a thick mist that will surround themselves and an area up to 100 feet thick enough to blot out anything outside of the 100 foot area to anyone inside except for the caster. Anyone outside of the mist cannot see inside and will feel a strong inclination to stay away... This mist will last for up to 30 minutes.
Her move to push open the door is aborted when it opens again before them. The mad Jack stares out at them, confusedly, a small frown on his face, eyebrows creased. "I...remember you...very... Very pretty, smart one, yes. The Josiggies are." He mumbled, making no move to touch her and then seeming to jerk back to himself. "I have to, excuse me, I have to- What happened to you?" His eyes catch onto Shelby. He does not look disgusted. No, his eyes shine with interest. "You can change too?" He whispers, eying the Leveret up and down with a grin. "It- it's, um, very nice, yes. You like everything, I, um, I like birds." He says it with a dreamy smile, eying Shelby's bird-like talons. His eyes then snap back out of their dreamy state and he tears past them, only abut 30 feet from them, ready to race back away from Anubis if he approaches. His speed is remarkable. From where he passes...the two behind him can almost hear...violins?
"Madame! Madame Banvyne, wait!" He cried, not knowing that the Highland Leveret would have the front door open in just a moment. "Madame, please!... Please? You're my favorite..." His voice trailed off, and he stared down the hall, shaking, then bolted back for the door, racing to it, he gestured to the pair behind him. "If you're coming with me, you will not go back." He whispered, preparing to shut the door.))

(sorry if this sucks, I'm busy studying for midterms and freaking out = bad creativity)
Dafina's heart thumped when she saw that look on Aleah's face before he turned back to take command of the Does. Yes, one day, she would be his and she would be happy. She nodded and blithely followed exactly what he said and began to move down the hallway to the front door. She spared one glance back for her Father and that was enough to suddenly feel sick to her stomach. He didn't look good. . .
Anubis blinked in shock as the other Jack suddenly disappeared behind the door, screaming something, before popping back out. He moved to be ready to fight again but the other Jack skirted around him and began to talk to the Does. Anubis was about ready to start the fight again, to protect the Does, but as soon as he moved forwards the other Jack ran back towards the door.
His hands tensed in anger. What was going on!?

Banvyne stopped when her name was called, all four of her ears tilting in his direction. The leveret was madly working to open the door. Was she supposed to buy time? Perhaps. All she knew was that in the pit of her stomach she was realizing very much that going with this Jack was not the best of ideas.
"I knooow dear, but I just cannot go. You have some issues to deal with behind that.. ah.. door of yours and I just won't leave this warran abandoned." She snatched up Layla so roughly that the leveret gave a whimper, the Doe's grin pulling back in a most… frightening way (By Layla's standards at least).
"Besides, the leverets would be mucking about like headless slithey toves without someone to boss them around" Her claws worked their way into Layla's fur in a petting motion, causing the poor thing's breathing to all but stop. The claws felt as if they were close to drawing blood… but the leveret was forced to give a soft laugh, smiling big at the Jack so that perhaps he wouldn't suspect.
"Go along, dear. I'll be waiting. The lie slid off her tongue quite easily.
Aleah turned the doorknob and pushed. hard.
((Gah I didn't want to assume he was able to open the door DX Nyar.))

((I really, really love Argo. The poor guy is so effing crazy, but in the best kind of way. /cuddles him. Also, I am bad skipping llama; I hope you can still love me, Lucca.))
For a horrifying moment, Maeve thought the door had opened itself, and then she registered the Jack. She wasn’t particularly certain if his presence was better or worse than an unseen force opening and closing doors, but at least he was a tangible obstacle, she supposed. She considered him warily.
He was insane, to be certain--he wasn’t particularly lucid, and horribly, horribly unstable and most definitely a hazard to remain in continued contact with--but at the moment he seemed relatively harmless, and while it made her uncomfortable that he had called her pretty--twice, now--and smart--though she was less aggrieved for intelligence to be noticed--as he made no motion to touch her or mention any questionable spells, she remained where she was.
The comment about being able to change--she noticed his un-Rabbit appendage with no small bit of apprehension-- was interesting enough reason to remain, as she considered at the link between the Jack’s affliction and Shelby’s transformation. Everything that had happened was connected, somehow.
And while “you will not go back” was a rather ominous statement, all things considered, Maeve didn’t see that they had much choice but to accept. She gave Shelby a brief glance, and followed the Jack through the door. “We’re coming, Sir.”

When Maeve made the decision, even though it was to go through the door and closeer to possible Cards, Shelby was relieved. He had been given something to do, something to focus on, and she was able to accept himn despite his new oddities. He could still barely believe that. He would never be able to express how grarteful he was for her simple acceptence of him. He nodded, shifting his weight and preparing to follow her.
"Yes. We can do it," he agreed, meeting her look, his own voice steady. His ears stood straight and he turned to look at the door, a small tremble going through him. He could do this. He could be brave. What happened the last time you tried to be brave? said a little voice in his head. Shelby ignored it.
He jumped back and let out a startled squeak as the door opened before Maeve's paw was even on it. And...the mad Jack came back out. Shelby's eyes went wide and he was paralyzed in fear. If he was seen...in all his wrongness...by a Jack, crazy or not...
And then he was and he winced, ready to be struck and killed, ready to...
...what? He blinked, surprised, as the Jack babbled about changing and birds and gave Shelby a creepy look that made him fidget with the claws in question. "Um, I..." he muttered, not sure what to say, staring at something that he belatedly realized was an out-of-place bird claw on the Jack. And then, he abruptly didn't have to worry about it. The Jack was off again trying to yell for the snooty Doe. Shelby turned back toward Maeve but then the mad Jack was back AGAIN (Shelby was worried he would get whiplash from all this) and...
You will not go back.
Shelby looked down at himself, and the monster he'd become. Where was there for him to go back to? Who would take him in like this? He nodded to Maeve when she glanced at him and followed her into the uncertain future.

(( The mad Jack gave a pathetic strangled noise and made several aborted gestures, as though he was thinking about racing off with the Madame. "Ok...ok, please wait! I have to go, but I'll come back. I'm sorry." He then took one last glance at Anubis, gave a high-pitched cackle, and bolted back towards Shelby and Maeve. "You want to come? You...you, um...won't come back. But, very well. Good to...have a Warren, right?" He asked, before shutting the door behind them and shutting it. The door shut, sealed, and vanished. The front door finally gave into Aleah's onslaught and he spilled forward from it, feeling an odd tingle run through his entire being from tip to tail. A sudden, sharp snap rang out as Aleah's spine cracked and seemed to lengthen! He would feel an incredible and agonizing pain streaming all over his body for a full 30 seconds until it stopped, quite completely. He had changed. He was a Jack. Though he appeared to look the same overall, his tail has become longer, thicker and bushier...a bit like a Wolf's in fact...
The outside was as dreary and gloomy as it had been upon entering; the hills on the very outskirts of view tell them that they are at the very edge of the Highlands. The Warren they have left sits behind them, empty and filled with death...though searching it certainly couldn't hurt now that the mad Jack is gone...right? Shame he wasn't killed, a mad Torque Jack running about? Might ruin Anubis's good name, mightn't it?)) (Shelby and Maeve have left this thread for the other. Your group may either continue playing here (search the Warren, fight over Does, etc...), or discontinue; calling this an end to your ventures.) Aleah's transformation does not warrant you a free picture, you still must either commission his Jack's picture, or snag a slot if/when they open, but he will have his abilities listed below and the 100 points needed to boost him to this Rank are no longer necessary, save them for something else. Aleah's Jack's Abilities: Jack's Ability: Once a week, he is able to cause another Jack, Leveret, or Card ranked 5 or lower (this spell does not work on Does), to feel as though razors are sliding beneath their skin! For a full five minutes, the opponent will feel as though they are being flayed alive, though aside from some slight bleeding at their wrists, nothing physical is actually occurring. Jack's Ability: Once a day, he is able to summon a Razor blade from nowhere. Old fashioned and dull-looking, the thing is as much a part of Aleah as the rest of his physical body and he can move it as instinctively as he does his own legs and arms. This blade can only be unsummoned if hit with some form of electricity, otherwise it will remain out and in its Jack's hand, ready to fight for a full hour, unless unsummoned. If knocked from his hand, Aleah must fetch it back as it can only be summoned once a day and unsummoning it would call it away again for another full day.~Nathalia

Anubis slumped against the wall. It seemed as if the. . "Jack" had truly left. Something tickled the back of his brain, bothering him. Having a rabid Jack running about was never a good thing, it could expose their kind to Cards. It could also lead to bad reputations amongst the general population. There weren't many Torque Jacks around. . . He shook his head, heaving himself away from the wall and towards the front door that no stood open as if it had never held them prisoner. He couldn't help but make a scoffing noise at it before he exited and took in his surroundings. By the White Rabbit's pocketwatch. FFS another Jack?
He tensed for a moment, registering the face of this new Jack. That leveret. . . . impressive for the change to happen so fast. Though he supposed, stress could do that if pushed in the right direction.
"Greetings. . ." He said slowly, watching the newly-'born' Jack with quiet wariness. Now to see how this one reacted. He glanced around, noticing his daughter and the other 2 does, and the remaining leverets (? need to figure out who left lol).
Dafina gasped, she couldn't believe it. "Aleah." She pointed at him, as if she was the first to realize what had happened and she was making him aware of it. She turned quickly when her Father exited the Warren. She was so happy to see him alive she ran over and bumped his hand with her head.
"Good fight, Father."

Oh, Rabbit's Feet! His spine made an awful noise. The unnerving tingle was like nothing he ever felt, but it gave way to pain so suddenly that he couldn't help but cry out. Pain… he's sprung some trap. Maybe the Jack had snuck up on him and stabbed him while he wasn't looking. His whole body trembled, the ground seeming to move further away as vertigo overtook him. Or he thought it was vertigo. The reality was that he was getting taller.
And then it stopped. The pain was gone. But there was something different. His size. His smell. He had hands! He sat back on his haunches and stared at the new digits. Still fashioned with his dangerous looking claws, but the fingers were now far more articulate than he'd ever imagined.
At Anubis' voice, Aleah turned, perhaps a touch too sharply, eyes wild for a full second. His face very quickly moved to something more neutral.
"Anubis…" He stood up, slowly, hoping the easy movement would hide the fact this was his first time ever walking on two legs instead of four. Absently, he brushed the fur on his chest with his pawpads. During these moments, he was carefully assessing the Jack. His movements were, while not quite sluggish, told of his battle. The blood oozing from his ear and groin a testament to the hard battle he'd just been in. "My condolences for your ear, Anubis. It was not a deserved wound."
It seemed the appropriate thing to say. So far, the Jack was not his enemy. In fact, Aleah wished to have dealings with him.
"The other Jack? Is he gone?

Anubis was slightly shocked when the newly minted Jack knew his name. Then again, why should he be surprised. Many Warrens had dealings with him at some point, and he was certain he had seen this one before. Albeit, in a different form. His eyes narrowed at the fevered response from the other Jack, but relaxed when the other Jack schooled himself. He was at a disadvantage, he did not know his name.
He stood taller at the other male's comment, but he managed to refrain from feeling at the lost ear with an idle hand. Though he wanted to, as if he could make it reappear just by looking for it.
"For now I suppose. Though I don't know where that damned tunnel leads."
He wasn't quite sure where to go from here. He had assumed all leftover in the Warren would be his. . .
"Your Father, will he have a Doe for you?" Perhaps he could figure out what Warren he hailed from, and how he had known his name.
