Oh by all the queens he was making things worse again! What could he do to make this situation any better or, at the very least, keep it from getting any worse? She was rambling and blushing and it was all his fault and .... wait, did she just compliment him?
B-but I'm not... handsome.
If he hadn't been blushing already, the thought would have brought color to his cheeks. And then she went and said she was nothing special and he couldn't help but shake his head. Who told her that? Well, he'd just have to slip into another of those ... odd moments of sincerity for just a bit.
Who told you you weren't?
He tilted his head to the side a bit as he attempted to meet her eyes, suits she was a pretty little thing and .... no! He was trying to comfort her and get her to believe that she was something special. Everyone was, in their own way, but ... he certainly thought she was special ... but she wasn't looking at him and he certainly didn't want to force her to.

"You don't think so?" she asked when he put himself down. "I mean...you're so kind...sincere. Your fur is silky...heh...and...well...you have really striking markings..." she said, trying to make him realize that what she had said was true. He was handsome...in more ways then she was mentioning, but already her words betrayed her, and she didn't want to mention how nicely shaped his body was...even if he was a bit lanky. Again she felt like fainting. There was to much blood flushing to her face all at once. She really needed to get a grip on herself, before she really did faint and grow colder then she already was.
When the subject came back to her...she realized they were both asking themselves the same thing, and she laughed a bit, "I suppose...no one...but no one has really told me anything different. My siblings are special....but...I'm so...plain compared to them." she dipped her head again, giggling because it was the only way to release the tension in her chest. It rose and fell softly before she spoke again, "I guess...we both seem to think poorly of ourselves...we are more alike then I thought.....It's almost like we were meant for..." again she found her hoof being stuffed down her mouth...and she quieted herself suddenly and completely.

He adjusted himself under her .... scrutiny of his fur and markings and held his ears at a rather awkward angle, and her words only made the flush to his cheeks darken even further. So she'd ... thought of this before? He took another hard swallow, feeling the world go a little topsy turvy for a moment until the utterly light headed feeling he had passed. Suits, what was that?
B-but .... you're quite a striking blends of your regions. N-nothing plain about you.
And that was his best attempt at making his point known, he wasn't really one for this kind of talk really, it only made him fumble over his tongue all the more, especially since she was .... pressed up against him in their little rock cranny. He did bring up a hand, accidentally brushing it over her side, and touched her cheek again as he tried to find his voice again.
W-well .... we'll just .... have to stop that.... and ..... meant for .... what?
Oh yes, he was trying so very hard not to jump to any conclusion here .... but it was terribly hard not to. There just ... wasn't much that could end that statement.

She couldn't even protest what he had said. She had said something really stupid, at least she felt stupid for saying anything at all. The man had said he wasn't with anyone...but well...how could he even begin to like someone like her? They were similar...but did that mean that he would like her? She tried not to blush, wishing she could stop thinking about such things. It didn't help then...that he asked her what she meant when she had cut off her words. She allowed her face to travel in his hand to look at him, her emerald eyes shining in the limited light. Her brows furrowed.
What was she going to say? She couldn't say the word she was about to....suits...why couldn't she think of another word to fit in the blank. Helping eachother? Gardening? What could she possibly say to fill in the blank? Her chest rose and shook as it fell. "You know..." was all she could manage to say, hoping that he would find his own word to fill in the blank...one that wasn't the word she was thinking of.
She noticed that his hand was growing warm, and without thinking, she laid her head in it a bit more, sighing pleasently, "Your hand is...wa-warm..." she said half shivering.

Eye contact .... it was ..... strange, and he shifted a bit more under her gaze ... bit didn't divert his own. This was, so strange .... but he couldn't deny liking it to some extent. She didn't seem to want to give him the last word of her sentence, so he'd let it drop. He'd still be curious, but he wouldn't press for an answer. Instead he let a bit of silence fall over them, well, until she rested her head on his hand and her voice broke it. But he was glad it hadn't turned into an awkward silence.
Then again ... her voice still held a bit of a shiver, didn't it? A new wave of worry washed over him just then ... she had to still be cold. He did have the cape to keep him warm, and at least one side of his relatively dry ... .but she didn't have anything. Without even thinking about it he used his other arm to pull her closer, if his hand was warm ... well, the rest of him should be to. He didn't say anything, but any words he had on his tongue had been swept away with the worry.

Suits what was she thinking? What was she trying to do? She found herself just as silent as him, and finally she decided to relinquish him from her gaze. Instead she decided to look outside at the cracks between his wings, severing his hand from her face with the motion. They were both being silly. None of this was actually happening. The rain fell with a unifying sound, static, yet still beautiful. The way the sound came from the sky, the dribbles and small streams made from water falling from the leaves of the trees. Little waterfalls forming over the rock edge which sheltered them from the rain. The world was dark and cold, but yet it was still pretty.
It was about then that she felt his arms around her, pulling her even closer to his warm body. She gasped with the motion, and for a second...she did actually faint. She came to just as quickly as she went out though, and she blushed, laughing a bit nervously. "I'm sorry. That just felt amazing..." she trailed off again, suits she really did have to shut up. She was conflicted. Part of her wanted to push away from him...and allow the space between them so that nothing embarrassing would happen...but at the same time...his arm around her felt wonderful...and warm...and...caring. She laid her head against his chest, tired from all the thinking and blushing all over the place.

She didn't pull away, or bop him or... scream or anything like that so .... it couldn't be to horrible that he was holding her close. Really he was just trying to keep her warm, but it was nice to have someone so close for the first time in a long time. Well, besides the kids actually, they had the bad habit of crawling into bed with him when they had a bad dream or, in Nova's case, particularly loud storms. But .... it probably wasn't storming at home, was it?
Her little apology brought him back to the present and he gave her a little smile before curling his tail up and over her form as well. It would be much colder then the rest of him, but that was a small part of why he'd curled it up. And, now that he didn't quite feel that everything he did was potentially wrong .... she was a rather cute little thing, even though she quite obviously wasn't entirely comfortable .... and he couldn't quite help but pull her a little closer. The closeness was .... oddly comforting.

Ilana couldn't remember the last time she was held like this...by anyone. Her parents used to hold her when she was young, and as she grew up Aurelius had always been very snuggly with her. But with Aurelius it was different. Sometimes she wondered if he only snuggled or paid attention to her because of his secret. If he didn't have that problem...would he even care half as much for her? She realized then...just how increadibly lonely she actually was. She loved her family, and nothing could ever take the place of that...but family HAD to like you. She didn't have friends...or other people outside of her immidiate family that she knew cared about her. Was that why she fantasized so heavily about having a family of her own, made with a man she knew cared about her.
She couldn't help but tear up slightly, and when he held her close, she snuggled her delicate head into his chest and sighed heavily. Should she tell him what she had thought about before? Would she seem desperate? In a way she was...maybe she was just crazy. No one could really meet one person that then suspect that they were meant for eachother. That was crazy. But on the other hand...he was a man who obviously cared for his children, a person who could really identify with some of her struggles, an individual that enjoyed plants just as much as her, and...really in such close proximity, she was beginning to find him truely handsome, not to mention...unintentionally romantic. Here they were trapped in a storm in eachothers company, his arms wrapped around her.
She could feel the bit of pleasurable panic filling her body again. Suits...she was going to regret this, "I was going to say....it's almost like we are meant for....each other." she said softly, more a question then a statement, "But...I know that's crazy. We haven't even known each other for that long..." she said quickly afterwords to cover up her embarrasment. "I'm...just being silly. You are a very nice man...and...I'm very happy to meet someone else who seems to enjoy plants as much as I do...really...it's so nice. But I mean.....I don't know...I'm crazy aren't I?"

He was warm and comfortable, despite still having wet fur and to be perfectly honest ... he was half asleep.... even if it wasn't exactly the best of ideas at the time. The movement of her head against his chest did get his ears to perk up, but his eyes, as they'd slowly closed, remained that way until she spoke. And what she said woke him right back up, even if it did take a moment to sink into his head.
A silent panic ran through his system, suits .... what could he say to that? So .... he had been right and that was how she was going to end her previous statement but .... he really, really wasn't certain what to say. It wasn't that he didn't like the idea, it was more the fact that society had taught him his place .... and theoretically ... this didn't fit into it .... but he shook his head no anyhow.
Not really crazy no ....
He paused a moment, navy eyes drifting away from her and to the rather uninteresting wall of rock next to him.
B-but suits .... you could do a lot better then me ...
He was being a little negative again, but it was a true .... she was a pretty little thing and a heart ... she could probably get herself someone important, or someone with a title.... someone so much better then a Half-Lowland Club ... Jack or not. It didn't really make sense to him why she'd even be interested .... maybe she was sick, but it'd be awful rude to check for a fever now ....
