"<Books. My dad was pretty fond of education when we were younger, so as soon as I could leave the wood I went to a library on the Outside. I've learned Tulgey Woods, Solandria Glacier, Hisstor Wastes, Esterberry, and Highlands. My goal is to eventually learn all the regions. Bog is probably the next on my list however difficult it may be.>" She rolled back onto her back wiggling down into the lumpy bed.
"<I'm probably saying a few things off, Tulgey and common influence. I wouldn't be surprised if the locals mocked me as soon as I opened my mouth.>" It was a very likely idea. When she had botched some Tulgey she had gotten mocked for quite some time by a few of the uppity neighbors.
Rosemary sank into the bed even further. It was definitely time to go to bed. "I'm going to say goodnight. Sleep well when you get there."

"<You didn't learn the language of the Tulgey until after you left it?>" had she actually meant that, or did she botch the grammar? Seemed odd for such a xenophobic area that Common would be her first language then Tulgey after. "<You do have a hint of a foreign accent, at least as for as I could tell. Dad was always picky about accent and dialect with us. It's not terribly offensive, but I'm not exactly a native myself, so I suppose we'll see.>"
When Rosemary relaxed into the bed and bid Tegan goodnight, she opened her book. "<Good night, then. I'll see you in the morning.>"
--
Morning came and Tegan woke with a sore jaw from having fallen asleep on her book. She spent the night nit picking over grammar that still confused her a little. She yawned and stretched.
"Okay, I need fo--Rosemary?" She was gone. In a panic, Tegan went to check her bag to make sure nothing was missing.

"<Yeah I... had to learn it on the outside mostly. Sounds ridiculous, but my mother knew nothing of the language and my father wasn't a Tulgey. He only knew basic grammar and a few phrases.>" She shrugged before rolling over to sleep. Tulgey was a complicated mess of grammar most people were afraid to touch. She had to learn it properly from four different angles and numerous different people.
But right now she wanted to sleep.
--
Rosemary had woken up long before Tegan, and decided to bother the inn keepers wife. When she returned with a basket of fruit on her head, she was greeted by the wondrous sight of Tegan running to her bag.
Really now? So trust worthy.
"Relax. I was just getting you something to eat," she said with a roll of her eyes as she set the basket down. "I'm not going to ditch you until we get to the Glacier, so you shouldn't have to worry about me stealing your belongings."

Tegan cleared her throat and shrugged.
"Sorry. I... nevermind. Thank you." Not about to admit the rules that life went by outside of the Court she'd learned the hard way, she left her bag on the floor. "Do you need any help?" She wasn't quite sure where Rosemary wanted to put the basket. On top of that, she wasn't going to help if it wasn't wanted or needed. Far from it for Tegan to bother lifting a finger out of the kindness of her own heart. Siku was woken by Tegan running across the bed, but still lay on it as she looked around confused and trying to find the danger. As the food was brought in, she sniffed in Rosemary's general direction then stretched and stood up.

Rosemary snorted at the girl's reaction. The look on her face was rather priceless. Rosemary continued to balance the fruit on her head with a bright smile. "Eh, no, I'm fine," she said as she balanced on her hind legs, tossing the basket in the air.
With a great deal of grace she caught the handle in her mouth when the basket started falling. She trotted over to the bed, hopping up on it and setting the basket down. "Unfortunately we don't have a table," she said as she picked up an apple between her paws. "We have a bit of variety today. Apples, oranges, some strange fruit that kind of looks like a demented star. Take your pick and then we can be on our way."
She glanced at the bander with a curious expression. Did that thing actually enjoy eating fruit or would it eat just about anything?

Tegan jumped up and settled herself next to Rosemary. She sniffed the star-shaped one, shrugged, and tried it. Siku sniffed at the fruit as well. Tegan handed her the smallest orange then nudged her away. The star thing was delicious. She thanked Rosemary, they packed the rest, and they were on the road again.
--
"So how often do you travel?" Tegan asked on one of their breaks from walking, "You've mentioned it's something you like to do, but how often do you do it? and how often are you usually gone for?"

Rosemary flopped down, rubbing one of her back paws in an actual display of flexibility. Her tail half curled around her as she listened to Tegan's questions. "Fairly often. I have a place in the Capital since I end up taking the path enough that I need to stop off there. I think counting up all the times I go to different regions... I'm probably only in one place for a month at a time."
She gave a small shrug. "My family sees me the most, ironically. I'm the only one who travels to see them since they're all spread out. Two of my sisters are at the Court of Clubs, my brother is in Corvistowne, my parents are in the Wood, my demonic Aunt is in the Highlands and my kid is in the Court of Hearts.... I travel between all of them and make time for new adventures. They'd be fine not seeing me for a month or two."
The wolf-squirrel glanced at Tegan. "So... are you enjoying the new freedoms?"

Tegan listened as Rosemary spoke, partially wondering if her Mother was right. Here was someone who'd traveled the world often and knew so much about it. Then here was Tegan who let things come to her, never really pursuing anything seriously.
"New freedoms? I suppose," she said almost distantly, "It's really more about the experiences. There are still just as many rules out here as there were back home, the only difference is people back there try to shame you for the littlest things, meanwhile out here the consequences are more dire. I suppose it's all about what matters. I do enjoy not hearing the constant stream of bitching, though.
"Does your 'demonic' aunt ever get to see your kid? I presume she's a Highlander. Wouldn't she be all proud or whatnot that you have a kid in the Court of Hearts?"

"Good way to put it I suppose," she said with a wave of her paw. Experiences. She must have had few of those in the posh palace of Hearts. Hopefully Linnea would be able to come out somewhat normal. That would be absolutely lovely.
Rosemary blinked. The idea of her Aunt Josephine actually seeing Linnea seemed like an utterly terrible idea. "My Aunt has a horrible history with the Courts. She was royally pissed when two of my sisters joined the court of Clubs. I imagine it's all because she fell madly in love with a pretty peacock who happened to cheat on her for someone... and then ran off to the court of Clubs. She was bitter enough to cut off the head of the pet Ace she had been gifted and send it to him in a box lined with her shredded wedding dress."
She sighed. "So now she hates all felines and birds. She does not approve of the Court of Hearts. I imagine if she decided to show up one day things... would get terribly complicated. She wouldn't approve of the fact that she's a squirrel or a Club."

Tegan whistled.
"And I thought my family had personal baggage. Though I have to ask: you said he was a peacock, but she hate cats and birds after the event? Was the one he betrayed her for a feline? Seems a bit strange that she would form a prejudice against an entire group of people for something that anyone could have done to her, given the chance." At this point she took to grooming herself. For as long as she was on her own exploring places, she still wasn't quite used to the feeling of dirt. Previously she tolerated it because she could clean herself and remove it anytime she wanted. Here, she was stuck with it. Well, until she had a proper place to stay.
"All is well, I suppose. One less family member meddling in your business, unless you seek them out and visit them of your own freewill."
