Zane waited for the equine to reply as he mulled the options over in his head. He had nothing better to do. Nothing at all, so he could easily go with the mouse and the equine. They were still complete strangers to him though. Huh. It was worth a shot wasn't it? He always wanted to be adventurous but never really bothered. Plus this was an opportunity to see his theories in action. How could he refuse such an opportunity?
"It would be a pleasure to accompany you. I have nothing to do today, so I suppose we could go whenever you wanted." He nodded. Most of all he didn't want to offend anyone. His father did know Shinrai, and if Zane made a bad impression? Well that would be bad for his father wouldn't it? That was a horrible thought. Then again, what dad didn't know didn't hurt him.

Shinrai gave a small nod of his head at Zane's response, oblivious to the bird's fears about impressions; especially those made upon the stallion. "Well, then, Aderlass. You'd better clear up your tab here and lead us to your chosen shop."
As likely the major financial backer of this enterprise, he should probably be more concerned about the mouse's decision, but he trusted the man to be aggressive enough in the success of this shop that he wasn't worried in the least about losing his capital. He'd covered half the cost of the building and most of the starter costs, if he understood their agreement correctly. He also fully expected Aderlass to some day approach him about buying back wot Rai had put into the business. The mouse seemed almost fiercely independent, despite his amusement at certain people in his acquaintance.

“I will go pay the bill now, if you two do not mind waiting here.” Bowing to both he headed inside to pay.
Coming back outside, he gathered up his cane bringing his hat further over his eyes to block out the sun. Nodding to the bird and horse, “If you two would not mind following me, I will bring you to see the building.” Luckily it was not too far from here.
Only waiting long enough to see that they were indeed going to follow him, he started off. Leading them through the streets, to the Craft District, he kept even pace with them. Arriving at the edge of the district he motioned them towards where the Bazaar met the Crafts. Stopping in front of a building he turned his attention back to the two.
Sitting on the corner, two larger buildings on either side, the building in question was still in condition, only in need of a few minor repairs and a new coat of paint. There was a window on the right side that would be the ideal for showing off pieces of jewelry to bring in customers. Above the store lay a three room apartment.
“So wot do you think?”

The walk was a lot shorter than the sparrow expected. He didn't even have to fly to be comfortable on the walk. He had forgotten how close the distract was. When they came to the building it was definitely better than what Zane had assumed, especially for a first shop. This mouse was well off, wasn't he?
"It's an amazing catch. It doesn't even have that much damage!" Zane said as he eyed it up and down. "You have checked the inside haven't you? There could be structural damage, that's the only reason I could think of that this building wasn't scooped up in a flash. That or... well if you're superstitious I'm sure there could be a reason why it wasn't snatched up."
That sounded far more ominous than Zane had meant it to. He had heard plenty of ghost stories about Capital City, and read quite a few himself.

He actually managed to look sheepish – quite an accomplishment for himself.
“Well . . . actually . . .” He was a little hesitant to answer the bird’s question.
There indeed was a reason that no one had bought this building yet, even though it was in prime location.
“You see. There is a small boy who still occupies the building.”
At the looks of confusion that were sent his way, he found himself prompted to explain more.
“I looked into the history of this building some. Apparently quite a few years back there used to be an apartment building here which burned down. Someone bought the land and built this building – only to find a resident from the apartment still occupied it. He closed a few years back, leaving it in this condition. The inside is in spectacular condition, except for the small areas that Asher took a liking to . . . but those can easily be repaired.” He nodded his head. He could not show them the inside just yet but he could get the key easily if they were interested.

What? What on earth was Aderlass talking about? "I'm confused. Someone lives in there or do you mean--" Zane stopped. No. Ghosts didn't exist. They were just stories. There was no way a place like this in the capital was haunted. People were just superstitious. Then again, there was always an element of mystery. Why else would such a fantastic location be empty?
Either way it was impossible to prove. Zane still had to ask. He was too curious. "What exactly do you mean? Who's Asher and if he's a small boy how can he live there alone?"
Wasn't that some form of child abuse? Then again, this "Asher" could be a "Ghost" or something like that. Maybe he was just talking about a dog... but he said small child. This didn't make any logical sense. Then again, neither did most of the stories he read for fun.

Having practically raised himself, the question of how a young child could survive on his own didn’t bother Shinrai at all, but Aderlass’ odd comment about the areas this Asher had ‘taken a liking to’ raised far more red flags in the stallion’s mind.
”Wot exactly do you mean by ‘took a liking to’?” he asked on the heels of Zane’s questions. He didn’t immediately realize the bird was angling his curiousity towards a ghost angle, but, even then, the stallion knew full well that ghosts existed and he knew well enough to respect them by leaving them the snot alone.
Perhaps Aderlass’ building was less the grand find they had first assumed. Not that the horse was going to question the mouse even now. He would, however, be taking out a very nice insurance policy on the business just as soon as they could afford it. If the mouse was shooting to hack off some ghosts, they would do well with the financial protection.

The red mouse shifted from foot to foot, looking a little abashed.
When he had first looked into the building he had discovered why the building had yet to be taken. There was, indeed, someone already living there. A red and white fox to be exact.
Asher, as the youngster had introduced himself, was now an orphan his mother having died in the apartment that had, unfortunately, burned down a few months ago. During a storm he had searched for shelter and having found this abandoned building had proceeded to make it his home. Fear of being caught and the consequences thereafter, the fox had intelligently created the illusion that the building was being haunted by a poltergeist.
Well he had until he had met Aderlass.
Catching the youngster at his tricks, he had made short work on making a deal with the child. Asher would continue to play the role of a poltergeist to scare off other interested buyers – which numbers had now lowered considerably - and Aderlass would allow him to stay in the building, even giving him a room.
“Well . . . um . . . I think the best way to explain this would probably be to just introduce you to him.” He replied to his company’s questions, rubbing the back of his head in nervousness.

Zane raised his brow. "All right." He really had no idea how to react in this situation. The man seemed rather embarrassed (was that even the proper word for it?) about the situation. Was this boy a ghost? If he wasn't how was he living a lone? Maybe he was a teenager or something.
The bird pondered this as he looked up at the mouse, waiting for him to lead the way into the house. He wanted to know what was going on. He was curious now. It was funny. He honestly expected the day to turn out to be another boring break. After all, he had never really gone out. Except for painting and such, but that just involved people watching didn't it?
At least he knew nothing horrible was going to happen, after all, he was with two other high ranking cards. If anything went horribly wrong they could handle it... right?
