Kelasia stared worriedly at the man. She had to help him. She had to.
"Don't worry about me, Theofilus," she said softly because she could not say it lightly. "I won't leave you. I'll help any way you want me to, and any way I can." She sent him a small, sad-tinged smile. "That's wot family does, right? You've helped me, I'll help you and everything will end up working out all right in the end." She absently brushed back at her silver bangs again, lips pursing slightly as she thought. She had to be right. For Theo's sake.
Her smile widened and grew more real when he brought up Eilwyn. "I can't wait to meet him," she said, and the veracity of that statement rang in her words.

"It'll be a while before you get a chance to meet him I'm afraid. He still hasn't gotten used to the City and he's not very used to the idea of people yet. That Lowlands... well can you imagine the effect they would have on a child?" Theofilus sad looking down at his tea cup. The things the boy had seen were horrendous. No child, no person should have seen the things Eilwyn had. It was heartbreaking. It almost killed Theofilus spirits.
The sparrow shook his head and looked back up at Kelasia. "Thank you. It's all I can really say right now." It was all he could really say. There was so much more he wanted to tell her and Calia but neither of them would understand. That and he had to eventually introduce them didn't he? The very thought seemed like a disaster waiting to happen.

Kelasia's ears went back uneasily; it bothered her so much that Theofilus was upset and even more so that she couldn't seem to cheer him up no matter wot she did. It was like he was determined to be sad and depressed. For a moment she was utterly deflated; how could she help Theo? How could she help this man she not only owed so much, but.... but... cared for very deeply. She didn't dare say the 'L' word just now. She couldn't handle it.
"Don't underestimate him," she offered gently. She was shooting in the dark here, though. She knew very little about the boy. "A little socialization may be good for him?" It had to be a question, because she just didn't know. She didn't know children, for all she liked them well enough. Her mother had no children after Kel and her brother, and kept the pair well away from other kids.

"Eilwyn is more afraid of people than I was afraid of making an idiot out of myself in my teen years. Trust me that's nice and terrified. I have to get him over that fear before I do anything else," Theofilus said with a sad smile. Talk about depressing.
Rogers took this opportunity to pour the sparrow some more tea. The sparrow blinked a few times in surprise when he found the teapot filling his cup. The German Shepard grinned before walking over and setting the teapot next to Kelasia.
"I suppose I should cheer up," Theofilus said as he watched the German Shepard with his brow raised. "I at least have people who can help me through all of this. Thank you so much." The sparrow sighed as he took a sip of his refreshed tea. It was still the same bitter stuff he had been drinking, so of course he gagged with surprise.

Kelasia simply backed down rather than disagree with Theofilus; the sparrow of course knew better than she. Not only did he know more about the world, he definitely knew Eilwynn while she did not. "We'll do wotever is needed to help you," she reiterated quietly, with a small smile. "Anything at all."
Kelasia still just wished she could do more. If only she could think of something better to do to help Theo. Or, at least, something she could do right now. Her plans were moving slowly as she carefully worked her way into the Court. Thus far it was very slow going, though she'd heard worse experiences in trying to get involved in the Courts. She was still researching the best way to get in and would request that her move to become a Jack remain a secret from Theofilus until she was ready to apply for Kinghood at his side.

"Well then. Maybe we should go out to dinner tonight?" The sparrow said after he was finished choking on his bitter tea. "I imagine Rogers is going to pass since he has prior arrangements."
"Yeah yeah. You two would have dinner alone and I'll be stuck on some blind date set up by my cousin," The German Shepard's tail sagged. He was so very pathetic when it came to blind dates. He always hated them he would rather be the third wheel on Theofilus' little outing, but he wasn't mean or anything.
"I'm sorry your cousin hooked you up with someone you may or may not like. You could try to give them a chance... even though blind dates usually turn out pretty bad." Theofilus wished he didn't speak from experience. However he had various bad experiences back in his teenage years thanks to his father and grandfather.
"Meh," Rogers said as he sipped his tea. He whispered to the skunk just enough that Theofilus couldn't hear, "Enjoy your time with Theofilus, Kel, I expect details tomorrow."

When dinner was first suggested, relief poured through her; finally they were moving on from the tough, emotional discussions that no one really wanted to talk about, or would, really. Theofilus had managed to talk about and around a lot of issues and Kel still didn't know wot was going on.
When she found out it was to be just the two of them, sans Rogers, the woman turned slightly pink at the idea of an intimate dinner with Theofilus again. It had been a very long time since they'd had any meal with just the two of them. Though she did feel bad about her elation when she saw the other man's dejection.
Kelasia flushed darkly and suddenly at Rogers' whispered words, eyes falling demurely to the floor as she shrugged rather uncomfortably, unable to think of any suitable response. Though she really doubted she'd be able to deny the Shepherd's curiousity for any real length of time.

"Well it's not like we can have a dinner with the four of us," The sparrow said with a glance at Rogers and then back to Kelasia. Was something wrong? "Are you all right there Kelasia?" Theofilus asked with a tilt of his head.
He sipped his bitter tea and wince again. At least his headache wouldn't come around. "Anyway, do we have any more private business for today or should we go back to work?" The sparrow said as he stared into his tea. He had nothing more he wanted to say about his quest or his accomplishments. He just wanted to go to bed or something. It was all a nightmare wasn't it? The sparrow didn't sigh as his eyes remained on his tea.
"I do hope all the accounts are working smoothly. I don't think I'm willing to be sociable with nobles for a little while." Theofilus rolled his eyes. If he was ever that snotty he wanted someone to break his arm.

Kelasia started slightly in surprise and flushed slightly deeper at Theofilus' gentle question, and she gave a small, shrugging negative shake of her head. No, no, she was fine, and there really wasn't anything Theofilus could do or add, so she wasn't going to ask it of him; not when even she couldn't define wot it was she hoped for from the conversation. Or from Theofilus. She just... didn't know. So. No, she was fine.
"I think there were some other accounts that needed your special touch," Kel admitted. "But I doubt that there's not anything that couldn't wait until later on." Really, she would deal with them before forcing anything else onto Theofilus' just then. He was dealing with far too much just then. Kel could start by taking care of more of the details here at the office before moving on to helping him in the Courts someday when she was finally ready.

"For once, I think the nobles will just have to bite their tongues. I suppose I need a break, but I don't want you to stress yourself," Theofilus said as he smiled at Kelasia. Thankfully she knew what a smile looked like coming from a bird, even a weak one. "Then again, I tell you something and you may not listen. I know Rogers doesn't listen when I say "Don't stress" and I don't listen when he says the same to me. I hope, at least that you won't stress."
The sparrow sighed. "I wish I wasn't so tired. Though I think I might like to take a look at the accounts that are causing trouble. It might get my mind of things." Nothing really could get his mind off of Eilwyn and the Lowlands. Everything just seemed broken beyond repair. How on earth could he fix this mess? Time didn't heal anything.
