Theofilus growled as he slowly pulled himself up off the ground. His feet were practically crying as he stood, they still hurt from the spikes at the beginning of this massacre. He stood there for a moment taking a calm breath. He was well reasoned. As well reasoned as he could be under the circumstances.
He clutched his hand before letting it fall limp to his side. There was no point in nursing it when it was broken like that. There was nothing he could do.
"Aderlass, we need to stop this. This is nothing but a massacre. I can't imagine that no one got hurt because of this." He motioned as the flames were growing bigger and spreading to another house.
He took fight, which was a difficult process all things considered. He glided towards the mouse still out of reach. He landed on the ground which wasn't covered in spikes anymore.
"We need... to see doctors," he said. It was strange not being able to hear his own voice. He had no idea if he was speaking loud enough or not.
He just needed to get close to the mouse without getting burned. That's all.

Feeling more detached than anything else, the mouse tilted his head to the side as he considered the sparrows words.
What they were doing was a massacre? No, no there had been a point that was not just mindless slaughter. Someone had died.
Elyse.
His precious daughter.
Dead.
And it was all due to this sparrow. He alone could have stopped it, he alone had the power to prevent this. But the sparrow had failed. Now she was gone. Forever.
"Why?" The mouse asked aloud his voice sounding hallow.
The mention that they needed to see doctors distracted the mouse for a moment. Looking down at himself he was amazed at how little physical damage had been done to him. He had a deep scratch on his check and the bite on his shoulder from the creature . . . Sure his body hurt worse than it had when he had fought the previous Queen of Clubs.

Oh right. He couldn't hear. This was a problem. The sparrow frowned, and would have crossed his arms if it were possible at this point. He took a few deep breaths as the tears of pain trailed down his feathery cheeks.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't think to look into the future. Every single time I've looked into the future I've seen pain. I've seen nothing but suffering. I didn't want to see that with Elyse and Eilwyn... that's why I hesitated. That's why I'm... so sorry." Theofilus choked as he struggled to form words. Was he saying what he was thinking? He couldn't tell.
The problem was all the logic in him knew that he wouldn't be able to change the mouse's opinion. It would just end in bloodshed. He just... he just needed to end this quickly. He watched wide-eyed and hopeful.

The mouse sat there and starred at his cane, shaking his head side to side in denial. Useless words. Words meant nothing.
That was exactly why the sparrow should have looked ahead. If he only had then he would have seen this coming. It could have been prevented, worked around. Ultimately it did not have to end this way.
Not remembering that the sparrow could not hear anything he called back, "And wot are we to do now? We . . . I . . . can not just go on as if nothing happened" He doubted that he could ever forgive the sparrow for what he had failed to do, even if it would only be on an internal level.
He could still take the sparrow out, though it would be without blood lust. Just calm, calculation.
Slowly the mouse made his way to his feet, using the cane to help him up. Weaving slightly he finished the last of his steps that would take outside of the fire wall.

Theofilus couldn't hear. He couldn't see properly. He was a perfect open target. He clutched his good hand tightly. His eyes widened even further when he saw the man step out of the flames.
Even if he was coming to kill him... he was one step closer.
Theofilus hobbled a bit forward. Still out of reach. He had to be careful to keep his balance. He stood there and stared at the mouse, he was still a blurr. "I... I'm sorry. The ability you used, I can't hear anything. I can't see anything without my glasses. I'm completely out of magic... everything."
That was a lie. He wasn't out of everything. There was one desperate hope. One desperate move he could make. The heat however was preventing him from doing anything. Still out of reach. He just needed to stay out of reach until the mouse let his guard down.
"I just don't want anyone else to die..." Theofilus said quietly. "I don't want anyone else to suffer like my brother did, and now... I'm afraid everyone on this city block is."

As he also walked slowly toward the sparrow he calmly noted the sparrows words. Of course the mouse knew that the man was blind and deaf. He had done those things to the man himself for just that goal.
At the comment about other people being dead from their fighting the mouse took a moment to truly look around at their surroundings in more than a strategic manner. The streets were destroyed from the spikes he had called up twice, there was barely a wooden item that was not currently on fire or only the ash remains. And that was just the start of the list.
However, the mouse gave a small shrug as if none of it bothered him. In all honesty, now that he was calm, he was a little sorry for all the destruction he had caused. The sparrow did not need to know that though and it was not as if the man would understand in his current state.

Closer. Closer. Closer. Theofilus watched the blur movie into his vision. And then he was clear as day. Theofilus was able to see the man as a man, more than just a blur. His heart skipped a beat as he looked at the mouse who wanted him and Eilwyn dead. An eye for an eye.
If it weren't for his ability his mind would be going a mile a minute. It was simple. He needed to wound the man enough that he wouldn't be able to find Eilwyn and kill him. There was hope left for Theofilus. He was already dead, it was just a matter of time the mouse gave him the final blow.
Theofilus sprung forward, all his power was behind this jump. This was the last of what he had. And he snapped his beak, making contact with Aderlass' neck. He wouldn't let go until he came away with a chunk of the mouse's neck. No matter how much it burned, no matter how much it hurt he wouldn't let go. He took his good hand and dug it into something.
Oh God and stars above. Please protect the Family.

The mouse had not been expecting the sparrows last desperate move. Caught off guard by the weight and momentum from the bird the mouse was thrown backward.
As the sparrows beak clamped down on his throat the mouse let out a scream. This was one of the first real, serious injuries that had been done personally to him. Acting on instinct the mouse flared his body heat to more than it had been when he was trying to ignite everything. With the cane still in hand he swung at the sparrow, just wanting to land a blow more than aiming.
Landing on his back the air was knocked out of him, and on trying to regain it the mouse found that there was only a gurgle as he tried to breath through a windpipe that were no longer there. As his body started to lack the oxygen it needed the mouse started to panic, fear welling up inside him.

He had no chance to let out a scream. When the heat turned up Theofilus could feel his feathers catch on fire and melt in an instant. His head snapped backwards pulling the wanted chunk out of the mouse's neck.
He tried to cry in pain, but the tears were burned away. Everything burned away. The mind numbing and searing pain made everything turn white. The mouse did, indeed land a hit, the cane cracking across the sparrow's ribs.
He couldn't feel the pain anymore as he choked and sputtered for air. His mind had shut off all of the pain, the heat had even stopped his bleeding, but that wasn't a good thing. Theofilus fell to the ground, desperately trying to find something, anything to hold onto. He didn't want to die like this!
But there was no point in fighting back anymore. Death by fire. It was ironic, wasn't it? His sweet brother had died by water....
His family... he was such a failure. The last thoughts on the Queen's mind as he slipped away were apologies to all the ones he loved.
The Queen of Diamonds was dead.

Hearing the sound of bones breaking the mouse was satisfied in knowing that he had at least - finally - been able to land some physically damage on the sparrow. The distinct smell of burning feathers and flesh was a welcome smell to the mouse, for all it was worth. The smell was also the only clue that the mouse had to the timely death of The Queen of Diamonds. And well he deserved it, the #@$&*%.
Lying there, he continued to attempt to draw in air, each gasp unsuccessful. Instead, all that resulted was that the mouse coughed up blood, which trailed from the side of his mouth. Each moment became more pain for the mouse, before all of it suddenly started to fade away. First all the feeling of pain that racked his body then his sight. Even as he knew his death was imminent, he still refused to accept it.
With one last attempt to draw air into his lungs, his body gave out.
The Queen of Clubs had fallen.
