Eilwyn stood in the ashes, eyes wide in terror as he looked at remains of the city block where he used to live. Everything was gone. Elyse was dead, Daddy was dead, Aderlass was dead. And yet Eilwyn stood there staring at the destruction that had been laid out before him.
He fell to his knees, he had no more tears left, nothing came out. His eyes were just wide with shock as he sat on the empty city street.
"Elyse said she would be okay. Daddy... said that he would never leave me. Elyse said she would never leave me." Eilwyn's talons dug into his arms as he continued to stare at the death laid out in front of him. "Why....?"
Everyone always left him. Everyone was gone. He was all alone. A hand was placed on his shoulder, but the eagle didn't move. He couldn't take his eyes off of the death.
"Eilwyn, we need to go." Zane said quietly as he tugged on the eagle's arm.
"No... but Daddy!"
"Eilwyn we need to go!" Zane said as he yanked his other brother by the arm. They had no time to linger. Once the news spread there would be a war. Eilwyn had children to take care of and he had to help play damage control with the Family.
He prayed, at the very least, that everyone had gone to a better place.
