Son of a-- Eurwen tumbled out of the way of a blow. Seriously? Why was it always her luck she picked a fight with someone who had a short fuse. Any other person would have just dismissed her comment and walk away. Of course this was a dirty rotting Lowlander, and she was obligated to mock it regardless of how tough it was. It didn't matter how noble or how sweet it was. It was a Lowlander and it didn't deserve to be in her presence. It was nasty, and it was just her luck it had sharp claws. But so far she was doing good at dodging. "Sir, don't you think this is a bit unreasonable?" she said in the most cheerful and innocent voice she could speak under the circumstances. "You little whore! I'm going to make that pretty face of your into ribbons!"At least it thought she was pretty? "Oh Suits! Someone help me!" She cried as she dodged another swing. It was clear from her acid burns and various scars that she was no stranger to fighting. However touching a Lowlander was a no-no, not to mention that she didn't have any sort of weapon on her person.

Having finished his training early, Jovan was enjoying a night in Capital City as a bit of a reward for all his hard work (and his freshly obtained rank as King). Everything, so far, had been going wonderfully and he was on his way back to the Palace when a soft, feminine, voice caught his attention. What he turned to find made his skin crawl. Just up ahead a delicate, ivy-covered mouse was dodging the razor-clawed blows of nothing less than a Lowlander. By no means did he hate all Lowlanders, H.P. made him look like a sympathist by comparison, he just had a strong (and healthy) dislike for the region's natives. On most occasions he would do everything in his power to defuse a situation like this with kindness and civility but sometimes, especially when a foul-mouthed bastard of a Lowlander was involved, that really just wasn't the best option. With his hackles raised and his blood boiling, Jovan let civility and caution fall to the wayside. "Watch your filthy mouth, Lowlander!" He growled through his clenched teeth as he launched himself into the fray. He didn't think much as he lept between the Lowlander and the girl he was swinging at, he just whipped his tentacles around to make himself look larger than he already was and activated his pain ability. The man was just lucky that Jovan had left his hammer at home this evening or he'd have smashed his ugly mug in for making such a vile comment at such a pretty girl. Strong Magical Ability: When activated, he can inflict mental pain on another card of any suit, once per day. The degree of pain is akin to being slowly strangled by a piece of barbed wire. The victim will usually begin to hyperventilate and Cards ranked Six and lower will pass out after five minutes of this torture.

The Lowland gave a surprised yelp when the boy came flying heroically in his direction. However he didn't start to to panic until he suddenly felt the sensation of barbed wire around his neck.
And he promptly passed out in a heap during the middle of a swing.
Eurwen was quite surprised by her hero's appearance. She could hardly tell what region he was from, and why he had tentacles waving around... what she could tell was that he was a Heart... and he had just saved her from the Lowander messing her up even more.
"T-Thank you! How could I ever repay you for your kindness sir?" Eurwen bowed her head and gave him a rather timid look. He was a King of Hearts. Well, that was... great. Hopefully if she was timid enough she'd be able to walk away from this.

For all that the 'battle' was considerably short, Jovan still felt a rush of excitement at his first 'fight' outside of a regulated sparring match with one of his elders. This was real. For the first time in his life he finally getting the chance to put his technique to the test. And, as the Lowlander crashed to the floor, Jovan thought he did pretty well.
Unscathed and surging with pride the young male turned back to his 'pretty damsel' and found that she was considerably more battle-scarred than he was. It was enough to humble him to a faint blush. With all those scars and such how was it that she needed rescuing? Or, perhaps that was it, she needed rescuing a lot and it didn't always come in time? Either way, Jovan was just happy that she appeared alright now. He'd done what he'd intended to do, at least, and had protected her.
"It's no problem, miss." He grinned cheerfully, equine-esque tail beginning to wag. "You just gave me a chance to put my training to good use." Was it just him or did he smell chocolate now that his adrenaline was dying down? He glanced briefly back at the Lowlander and shook his head before turning back to the ivy-covered mouse. "I'm Jovan, by the way. Perhaps I could accompany you to where you were headed before this thug interrupted you?" That way he could make sure she got where she was going safely and he could, possibly, get to know her a little better.

She blinked.
He was a lot more polite than she expected from a Heart. Normally weren't supposed to be nice to Clubs? Didn't they have Heart Pride or nonsense like that? She had to admit that her family never really cared about Red to Red or nonsense like that. Still, she had dealt with so many stereotypical people she wasn't particularly sure what to think about this one.
She still couldn't figure out what region he was from. And was he a horse mixed with something? And really what was up with the tentacles?
"My name is Eurwen," she said after a moment. "Actually if you could... that would be quite wonderful. I don't want to impose though. You've been so terribly nice saving me like that and I have no way to repay you."
She really did appreciate getting rescued, and it showed rather clearly on her face despite everything.

With a Spade for a mother, Jovan didn't think much of Suit anymore. Once upon a time in his youth he had been worried and confused by his red suit and his mother's black suit. There had been a great deal of upturned noses, but his mother was just the same as him. His extended family, on the Spade side, were also wonderful. There wasn't anything to look down on a black suit for, being a Heart just gave him an amazing tactical advantage.
He had his own ideas of pride and honor, mostly born of Xylia's ideals.
"It's a pleasure, Eurwen, even under the circumstances." He was still bursting with pride at his accomplishment, but he was also doing his best not to make a fool of himself in front of this girl. She was so petite... Was she younger than him or was it just her breed? He pushed that thought aside and beckoned for her to start walking with one of his tentacles. "I'd be more than happy to, I don't have anything else planned for the evening really. I was just out for some time away from the Courts. I can't think of a better way to spend the rest of my night." And she really was very cute.
He talked a big talk, trying so hard to be proper and gentlemanly and all that, but inside he was just bursting with pleasure to be (hopefully) making a new friend.

Would surprises never end? Eurwen's ears flicked at the mention of the Courts. Well, seemed like it was some sort of a small world. A good deal of her family was in the Courts, but none of them had ever been part of the Court of Hearts. And really, she could only assume he was speaking of that considering his rank and suit.
Plus she had never heard of a Heart running around in the other courts beyond... well Clubs. But she liked to pretend that wasn't happening.
"You're quite the gentlemen," She said with a smile as she motioned for him to walk besides her. They should probably get away from the Lowlander before he woke up or something. "So you're a Court boy? Most of my family is in the Court of Clubs, Spades and... well Diamonds too I guess. You'd be part of Hearts I take it?"

As they left the Lowlander behind them, Jovan paid more and more attention to the details of the little mouse beside him. Her mutations and her coloring were terribly intriguing and reminded him a little of the oddities in his own family. What region was she?
Her compliment caught him a little off guard though he secretly loved it. His tail gave an enthusiastic wag in response and his grin reappeared. "Thank you, Eurwen." He gave a short incline of his head before going on to answer her question. "Yep. I've only joined just recently, but I'm not titled or anything. I'm simply in training to become one of the Court Guards. And I know how it is, I've got family all over the suits as well..." Only lacking Clubs, really. "Though very few are actually in the Courts at all. I've always figured that it had something to do with Grandma being anti-politics as she's got a great deal of kids and only a couple went off to the Courts."
Once again his gaze traveled to her coat and how the patterns almost made him think of an inverted Corvie. "Pardon my asking, but what region are you from? Your coat is very unique."

Suits. This one was keeper. He was nice and gentlemanly, even if he was a bit awkward. She really couldn't figure out what his region was. Maybe she should just ask? Perhaps with that banding he was a Jossigy? But that didn't explain the white and... tentacles and just about everything else that happened to cover the Heart.
And there he was finally asking a question. This she could handle much better than being polite and awkward.
"Highlander Corvie. Mostly Highlander since I'm not really interested in in all of the things my brother and sister are. Though I'm not as pompous as my other sister. I think I did the world a favor by being a pretty mix rather than a pure Highlander. My dad though... he's really nice." She snorted. Well, of course she was ranting. "Though... what region are you? If you don't mind me being nosy."

Jovan relaxed a little more as he listened to Eurwen rant. They both went off on little tangents and, from the sound of it, they had pretty similar families. Having Corvies in the family really could make things a bit bothersome for the Non-Corvies. Kyri was always off on some scientific pursuit and, when given the chance, Nico could ramble about the science of music for hours.
"I agree, your mix turned out very nicely." The Corvie bands on the Highland white really was very pretty. "Most of my family is some sort of Corvie mix or another," because Grandma was a crazy geneticist, "but I'm actually a pure Josiggy with partial albinism." The equine mix wiggled his tentacles for Eurwen. "Mom figures its from the potion that gave me an' the rest of my siblings the tentacles." Along with the fragile mess that was Nico but that was a whole other story and Jovan was considerably more interested in Eurwen's mutations. He just hoped she wasn't the sensitive sort that disliked their unique features.
"I'm sorry for all the personal questions, I can't help but be a little intrigued by your mutations though. Your flora is very unique."
